MORBIUS | Exceptionally Mediocre 

You are being very kind with this review. This movie, in my opinion, was nothing but bad CGI, plot holes, plot contradictions, and a very poorly patched together script that left me feeling as though there were several cut scenes that were needed to make stuff make sense.

Morbius is a horror genre. Horror. This could've been a good introduction of the horror superhero genre. But they blew it.

4:20 Funny you should mention that, Morbius was originally supposed to appear at the end of the First Blade movie and be the main bad guy in the second film, but Marvel wasn't interested in using him in either. You can actually see a deleted scene from Blade where ht technically appears in the distance.

Honestly, Morbius might be the nail in the coffin for a lot of fans. In my opinion, this movie finally confirms that Sony owning the rights to Spiderman isn't a good thing anymore.

Matt Smith gives his all but most of the all was cut out. More has been left on the cutting room floor than ended up in the movie. Sony could probably make a sequel without shooting another scene.

What's so effing frustrating about Morbius is that the whole thing was going to fail from the start. A simple conversation with normal people instead of board room full of yes-men would have revealed that before millions were spent.

Glad to see he is still doing great with his reviews. He was pretty fair with this review, especially considering the backlash that Morbius is getting among the fans. Now all I have to wait for is when Thorias finally reviews the rest of Supergirl and my life will be complete. I may be alone in wanting this, but surely he can handle more of Supergirl as compared to Batwoman. Here's hoping that we can finally see him watch the rest of Supergirl and tear it to shreds.

There was almost no build up to Morbius' transformation. He just turns into the Vampire and ...yeah. The whole movie was so predictable I thought I suddenly gained the ability to see into the future, but it turns out the plot twists and story was so paper thin anyone could have seen it coming.

Not surprising. Morbius isn't that popular. Yes it has it's fans but not huge and plus Morbius can't hold his title without Spider-Man or Blade since that's his best known appearance. This movie with terrible marketing, terrible productions, actors admitted that they don't know the character or how they're portrayed them, and worst try to forced the continuity into the MCU without planning. This truly kills a chance for Morbius to appeared in future films. This shit is going to happen again in Spider-Woman (Mademe Web) movie and bomb.

Movie studios still must love throwing away money. First off hiring ppl who they shouldn't like Amy pascal. Second the money Sony paid Michael Keaton. To basically not use him.

This film has been such a long long time in development. If it had been rushed out ten or so years ago it might have had some resonance with the market and audience, but at this stage in time if you want to have a Vampire movie you really have to raise the bar so high in terms of a script and vision that it would need a very special producer pushing it. But in terms of it being an MCU presentation it may be the best grounding would have been to market Morbius as the springboard for a supernatural band of Marvel films, perhaps have Morbius as a part of a 'horror' under-verse in the MCU inspired by Doctor Strange that would see characters like Ghost Rider, The Midnight Sons led by Blade, Moon Knight.... Stood on its own like this though, this is a very strange character concept to be pursuing at this stage of the MCU.

Sony is just obsessed with trying to get that Spider-Man cinematic universe going. I mean, at one point, they were trying to do an Aunt May movie, they’ve got a Madame Web movie in the works, and they’ve been trying for forever to get a Sinister Six movie, which is just as bad an idea as not spinning Venom off from a Spider-Man movie. Honestly, I wish they would just cancel all these projects and just put those resources into giving Andrew Garfield a 3rd film. Hell, Amazing 2 set up the Sinister Six and its been 8 years since that film, why not finally give us an adult, post-school Spider-Man film for once?

Good review, although I think you give it too much credit. For me it was more like comic book movie from early 2000s. Same problem with Venom. Sony continues to fail miserably 😇 There is alternative ending to first Blade, where he meets Morbius. It was cut, but you can check it on RU-vid.

I appreciate that in your reviews you let the movies/ shows be entertainment and don’t just shit on them because they’re not perfect. Sometimes it’s just not good but it doesn’t mean it’s bad either.

For Matt Smith; you get a taste of what he's really like when you see him react to the boys who took his letter. You see that Michael knows he has "unsavory connections" and he's willing to be more callous about people in general. It's still barely there connective tissue, but recall - this is a man on Death's Door for his entire life. Who was probably pissed about that fact for a lot longer. The study between Michael and "Milo" (actually Lucian - which was literally ripped right off of Underworld) is that Milo is more impulsive. Less inclined to self control. So what happens when you give that man a new leash on life, and demi god like power? Is he going to look for avenues like the "fake blood" when he knows a fresh source [Actually it's kind of on the nose comparing vegetarians to carnivores] Is he going to go after the girl whether she's taken or not, and damn the cost... I almost... almost! want to see where they'd go with a sequel just to see if they can properly do a vampire romance where the two love interests develop conflicting ideologies about how to handle what they are, but DON'T end up making her or Michael hate/try to kill each other dang near right off. Or by the end. (Really, REALLY did not like what they did with Venom) ** No, I don't have that much faith they could actually pull it off, when we all know what direction they're likely to go with. Path of least resistence is an easier win.

Your title alone nailed exactly how I felt about just the few previews I've seen.

You know it's kind of hilarious but I think the #1 reason Kevin Fiege has succeeded wildly where so many franchise runners have failed horribly (Amy Pascal, Alex Kurtzman, Scott Gimple, Kathleen Kennedy, the list goes on) is he knows the source material. He knows it very well. I feel like if I went up to Kathleen Kennedy and asked questions about Star Wars lore she'd have to consult her assistants. If I asked Kevin Fiege a Marvel question, he'd probably not only identify the story but know behind the scenes information and business side (who wrote it, who owns it, etc) to go along with it. That, right there, is the divide.

A Marvel Legend arrives. Me: Blade???

This sucks for me, Morbius was one of the characters I liked in the Spider-man cartoon from the 90's. Yeah, it's just a vampire like twilight character blablabla but as a kid, it gave me Castlevania vibes and I grew up with that. The Avengers and Spider-man get all the attention with numerous movies done over and over, and characters like this that I find a lot more interesting, get nothing or 1 movie. Remember the f*cking awesome Spawn character? You know, the one that you'll probably never see after 1 movie every 25 years?

I skipped this one because I never knew morbius, and since you pointed out how much of a minor role he had in the comics, it's good to see that I'm not alone.

So... everyone's competant aside from the writer, the most important part? I wish that wasn't such a familiar story nowadays.

The morbius comics were legit awesome though, I still have all of them from when I was a teenager. This should've been rated r and someone other than Leto. Also, different producers and writers would've been even better

Also if you actually like morbious, alot of his character has changed. In the comics hes permanently in his ugly vampire state and that drives him into depression. Outside of having to drink blood every 6 hours theres litterally no reason not to be one of these vampires.

Morbius was always at his best when he was teaming up with or against Blade or Spiderman without them he just feels incomplete it might have worked if instead of going with the superhero formula that's been done to death they just went full horror no quips no funny banter just straight up monster

This movie was awful. There were so many things in this movie that just didn't make sense. Then there is the fact that he was so overpowered it was ridiculous. He was tanking falls through concrete that would have killed Spiderman. He was bashing through steel hatches on a ship like Superman. Morbius in the comic was only able to lift 1500 pounds. He was nowhere near that strong. He was also nearly as fast as Quicksilver. He was moving so fast that he was a blur to nornal people. Then he was jumping around like the Hulk. He also had super hearing that was almost Kryptonian level. At one point he was flying. Then later on it was like he forgot how and just ran and jumped everywhere. You knew within 30 minutes that his friend was gonna steal the serum and turn evil. Somehow he took the equipment used to make counterfeit money and turned it into an advanced dna sequencing lab in an abandoned building right in the middle of the city and nobody noticed it. This movie was the worst I had seen in a long time.

The secret to a good smoked brisket is time, quality hickory, and love. If you don't love what you are smoking at 3 am when you should be adjusting the coals you just stay in bed and wake up to either a raw or burned piece of meat that no one will want to eat. You know it's funny because you probably need love in the movie business too and obviously it is lacking!

Meh, I saw it in theaters. Didn't think it was awful or anything, but certainly not something I'd watch again. Sadly that's true for most modern films.

That being said, if the worst you can say about it is that it's predictable, I might actually have to rent it some day. And ignore the end credit scenes.

The idea of Morbius being promoted as a legend in any sense is laughable. Hell, if it wasn't for this waste of time, comics fans would have forgotten he even existed...and we would have been okay with that. His very best days were back in the 70's during that strange story where Spider-Man got extra arms, but can anyone name another memorable moment about that character? No? That's because nobody cared about him before, and this won't change anyone's minds!

Looking forward to your take on MoonKnight. After ep1 I am fairly uninterested. After watching it I couldnt tell you who any of the characters names are, what abilities or affiliations they have, and if any of them didnt show up in the next episode, I wouldnt even notice, much less care. I would comment about Morbius here, but Ive never heard of the character before now, Dont like horror movies, and cant think of a reason I might go see this.

Have seen it twice. As a stand-alone origin movie, it isn't terrible. As someone brought up earlier, Morbius is not a talisman/linchpin character in the Marvel Comics lore. His lane is suited for collaborations with other B-List characters. Leto is a brilliant actor and was spot on for what the script demanded. I am no Matt Smith fan, but for this particular movie, he did put in a professional effort. The scene where he is getting dressed reminded me of Spider Man 3 (Maguire's walking jive). Strange and silly. The Marvel encyclopedias are so heavy and massive, you would think that there is a treasure trove of characters to make $$ on. There are still groups like the Invaders, Defenders, and Inhumans that could be developed. Even smaller characters like Machine Man, ROM Spaceknight, Devil Dinosaur, etc., could be solid entries into cinema. I think they should try a new series based on the Marvel Premiere, Marvel Spotlight, Marvel Team-Up, or Marvel Two-in-One series they had in the 70's and 80's. We learned about other heroes through these collabs.

Morbius wasn't popular when I was a kid and I dealt in comics. as an appearance he was fine, but when is full-fledged book came out that thing just sat until something new hit then became back stock.

I still remember seeing the Morbius character from the Spiderman the animated series, and I have to say, from what Thorias was saying, the movie isn't a straight up horror movie and I have to say, I am disappointed. Not being R rated wouldn't have killed it, but it definitely sound like it could have used more consistent horror troupes and whatnot more.

The only good part was everything up till Morbius jumped the boat. Which is one hell of a metaphor for where the movie went from there on out.

In neither of the previous two Spider-Man movies was there an opportunity for Peter Parker to cross paths with Dr Michael Morbius so quite how they were going to link the characters is beyond me therefore the posters in the trailer mean nothing without contex.He’s too young in this universe to be a medical intern which could have been an in like Garfield’s Spider-Man,so that’s probably why they decided to pull any cross over links because they just don’t make sense.

People pick on Jared because he's fucking insane, especially on the set because he becomes the character, but so does Daniel Day Lewis, i mean he had them put up a huge ass cardboard box with Time Machine" written on it and told everybody to called him Abraham Lincoln the moment he came out of the trailer and stepped through it.

I'll admit, whilst Spiderman the Animated Series got me to like Morbius, I wasn't expecting his movie to be all that great. I'm glad to hear that Leto and Smith's acting is one of the better parts of the movie, but there's only so much you can do with fairly good actors in a meh story. I think if the MCU owned Morbius they might have given him his own series or incorporated him into Blade since he's Morbius the Living Vampire. I also found it strange that they called him a "New Marvel Legend", sure Morbius is cool, but he isn't a game changing character by any means, I just find the Sony verse to be incredibly average and this is just more proof as to why, its not bad, just not good enough to warrant anything beyond being ok

this movie could of been amazing if they had used their heads, me id of made a kinda avengers type movie, i say that as i mean id of made it into an origin of blade too, maybe had spiderman fighting him.. having mat smith survive and become a huge bad guy (i.e. maybe call him deacon frost) then take it x amount of years later so blade is grown and morbius has been struggling to un do what made him, having michael keaton joining him could of been a good point, prob have been better if he had escaped in no way home instead..

Say what you will about Venom, but at the very least he COULD have a solo movie if given the proper care, because he does have enough interesting stuff outside of Spider-Man to hold his own (especially nowadays after Donny Cates’s run for Venom in the comics). But Morbius? What in the sam fuck does he got to his name outside of an infamous arc in the 90’s cartoon and him (surprisingly) predating Man-Bat? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

A reason I could think of for sinister six strong push would be for them to kill peter parker and bring in miles morales. You cannot really have them succeed in the movie otherwise.

I did like the Netflix update of Lost In Space. Morbius was not a great character in the comics. Marvel kept going back and forth on him being a villain and then a hero in the 70s. Also casting Leto wasn't a good idea. I'd have rather have had a Kraven the Hunter movie over Morbius. On the Big Wheel I'd have that in a movie as a passing joke. Stilt-Man did fight both Spider-man and Daredevil (on separate occasions). Those writers were not the ones to hire to write this screenplay. I was thinking Marvel should have done this around the time of Blade as well.

I saw the movie a couple of days ago and I have to say, I want my money back. I thought the movie would be alright or a B movie, but jesus christ I left with a empty and unsatisfied movie experience. The only good thing was Matt Smith, he had fun and he should have been Morbius.

Jared Leto was pretty good as Morbius, though it's disappointing that he probably drove the whole reason the vampires changed back to their human form so often since he didn't want to wear cosmetics. A lot of the editing is weird because it feels like it was done to get out of an R rating and make sure they weren't dark too long without some joke to break up the mood. For as good as Sony is doing with the spiderman movies, they are bad at handling darker toned stories of antiheroes because they are too scared to wander too far into the darkness or violence. Also Morbius has never really been a member of the sinister six as far as I recall, only showing up as a hologram in a few stories, so it's weird to try to force him in after the whole rest of the movie with him wanting to do the right thing. At least across the spider verse is looking like it will be a solid follow up to the last one.

I would leave a comment saying what I thought of it but like most people I'm skipping it. I'd rather save that money for Sonic 2.
