Review | VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE | Thanks I Hate It 

Nothing against Naomie Harris, but if I'm casting this movie, my very first call is to Fiona Dourif to say I'm writing her a blank check for any amount she wants if she'll agree to play Shriek right ****ing now.

They completely neutered Carnage/Kassidy. Kassidy is supposed to be an unfeeling monster who enjoys nothing more than killing people in every horrible way imaginable. Here he's a love sick puppy who nearly gets rid of Carnage because it wants to murder his girlfriend (Who by the way also sucked). This should've been a bloody, ultra violent rampage film that would make a person so tense their damn butt is about to cramp up.

Making Cletus relatable is about as logical as Carl King trying to get sympathy for being an orphan.

Carnage attacking the prison scene kinda irked me, seeing the people just flying around was just childish for Carnage. THERE SHOULD'VE BEEN BLOOD, GORE, DISMEMBERED LIMBS EVRYWHERE. THIS MOVIE SHOULD'VE BEEN RATED R!!!!

Venom: let there be garbage

The thing that took me out of the movie the most was Carnage (the symbiote) talking. Venom talks; he and Eddie are separate entities. But Cassidy is all the way bonded with the Carnage symbiote to the point that there isn't a real distinction. He should never be having a conversation with Carnage or at any kind of loggerheads.

Venom doesn't even eat humans. It feeds on the chemicals the brain produces while not hurting its host. Venom is a symbiote, not a predator.

Never thought I would hear Cletus Kassidy and relateable in one sentence....

Remember that time in the comics where Venom manipulated Eddie to think he had cancer in order to keep him around? Man they sure do make such a great couple. Without that tie to Spiderman, the relationship between Eddie and Venom just doesn't work like they think

Making Venom being able to talk was a mistake. The point of Venom is that it is a parasite sticking to the host and slowly change them into a darker, more violent version of themselves. In this 2 part series? It's a comic relief lol.

So... Nobody watched Upgrade (the superior symbiote film that came out recently) and figured out where they went wrong with the first movie before writing this script? And if Venom's coming to the MCU, it just makes me angrier that his origin was ruined for a cash grab.

9:20 Welcome to modern writing for basically every medium. Fill it with non sequiturs and quippy jokes. Who cares if the jokes literally make the characters worse. All that matters is the jokes. Characterization and growth? Fuck that, that stuff takes a little effort. Just add a few more quips

Their toning Venom down to a PG13 level for his introduction into Disney's MCU. Just wait till we see what they do to Wolverine 🤮🤮🤮🤮

A venom/Carnage movie not being R rated is a disgrace..

That end credit scene, all I can say is someone needs an adult. Also I agree that carnage doesn't need an R rating, tho would be nice, as the 90s Spider-Man in my opinion made him good and that show had so much restrictions kinda funny. What needs to be there is good writing.

That feeling of dread you mentioned about walking into the cinema? I can relate dude and my moment was the first transformers movie from Michael Bay. From that moment on my cinema visits virtually ended right there and then.

I can understand why Carnage was watered down in violence, but you can't water down his crazy.

I didn't like the first Venom movie because as much as I like Tom Hardy Venom was not a humorous character that made quips. He was an angry character wanting revenge. Is Marvel just afraid of doing darker toned films that don't have one liners every minute? You can make PG-13 movies that are just as scary as an R Rated movie if you have the writing behind it. In short...I'm just going to keep on avoiding this movie franchise because this is #NotMyVenom.

That's a real shame. I was looking forward to this movie. Once I heard about the pg rating I knew it was going to have problems. I wondered about Serkis direction too. Even though he's a pro at cg acting, this doesn't seem like a movie that he'd be strong at directing.

Thank you for saving 90+ minutes of my life that I would never get back.

We are living in very mediocre and lame times, the only way to enjoy things now seems to be by shutting down your brain and just watch the thing without questioning what the F is going on in movies, videogames or whatever media.

The Carnage hacking computers things is actually from the comics. Not sure how it works but it is cannon.

There was actually one comic where Carnage put his symbiote through the web straight through the computer screen. But I agree that the tornado was stupid. I think you can pretty much blame all the mistakes on Andy Serkis

I know no one is a complete fan of the story of Venom 2, so I'm posting this small rewrite on different review channels that believe the story could've been better. (Spoiler Warning) First, Eddie Brock should be a top reporter, who has awards in his messy apartment and we should've seen Mulligan visit and meet Eddie for the first time and convince him to talk to Cletus in order to find his missing victims, I would also have the story Eddie is working on be a reference to Morbius, by showing Eddie writing a story on a charity event funded by Michael Morbius before Mulligan knocks on Eddie's door, while a news report about a Lethal Protector is being played on Eddie's tv. After the meeting with Eddie and Cletus since the first movie, we go to the police station where Eddie is telling the detective everything he knows and while talking, Mulligan insults the rumored Lethal Protecter, causing Venom to try and eat Mulligan's head and then the scene continues the same. Everything is the same until after everybody gets the news about Cletus's execution, I would add a scene with Cletus in his cell getting a letter from his living father telling him to rot in hell, angering Cletus. Then we get up to Venom attacking the purse thief, but I would have him eat the thief's head, causing the lady to flee in terror, to add to the tension between Eddie and Venom and give more weight to their hatred for each other. Now I would have Anne's role in the movie be to question her relationship with Dan, as the kiss and adventure she had in the first movie has caused her feelings for Eddie to re emerge and so she rushes into the marriage, due to being confused, I would reveal that her and Dan's relationship has only been for five months to show how rushed this is. To emphasise Anne's arc I would have her get home after the scene where Eddie and Cletus meet where Cletus bit him, she would talk to Dan about rushing things, but Dan would reassure her about having second thoughts, but also believes that this is because of Eddie. After Carnage escapes from prison, I want him to attack the party Venom is at, adding to his kill count and have his first encounter with Venom, due to his host weakening, Venom would leave his host and we would see a chase scene with Carnage killing civilians along the way until he gets away, with Venom now knowing he needs to get back to Eddie, despite their current despute. After Mulligan talks to Eddie at his apartment, I would have Dan arrive to talk Eddie out of having contact with Anne, afraid that Eddie being the Lethal Protecter could put Anne in danger, Venom arrives and so Eddie rushingly agrees to leave Anne alone and after Dan leaves, Venom recaps Eddie on what happened at the party. During Eddie's interrogation Muligan gets the news about Cletus's orphanage being on fire and then Eddie searches Cletus's file and learns where he might be going to next. During the scene where Cletus and Shriek talk about bringing special guests to their wedding, Shriek would bring Mulligan, Carnage would bring Venom, but Cletus would say he is bringing someone special. Cletus and Shriek would come to Cletus's father's house to bring him to the wedding and after his dad gets through insulting Cletus and not regretting his past actions Carnage knocks him out and puts him in the trunk of the car, at the same time Mulligan's squad arrives, Carnage kills them and then Shriek captures Mulligan. Venom arrives to fight Carnage again, but they lose, due to Venom and Eddie's constant bickering and so they decide to escape. Carnage tells Shriek to find Brock, while he claims to be bringing a few more guests. I would then add a scene where Eddie and Venom talk through their problems and Eddie reveals that his father treated him like he would never amount to anything, but that the main reason he loves Anne is because no matter what she always believed in him, after a bit of heart to heart, Venom decides to patrol the city to find Carnage. Eddie calls Anne telling her that he loves her in case something happens to him, upset Dan grabs Anne's phone and slips up about their deal, angering Anne, causing her to storm out of the house, but is captured by Shriek, who tells Dan to tell Eddie about her. After capturing Anne, Dan calls Eddie to tell him where she's at, but blames Eddie, believing he dragged her into his problems again. Venom arrives at the cathedral to see an audience of hostages in the seats, Carnage then reveals that he will spread his offspring onto those people and create a whole world of Carnage and during the fight, the hostages escape and instead of eating the priest, Carnage menacingly, eats Cletus's father. During the scene where Venom is lowering Anne down, but without Dan, the roof collapses, causing Venom, Anne, and Carnage to fall, causing Eddie to leave Venom and grab Anne. After Venom saves Eddie and Anne, Anne admits that she still loves Eddie and they kiss, while Shriek is watching, feeling guilty now that she realizing that they love each other just like her and Cletus, but soon after, Carnage stabs Anne in the back, causing Anne to die in Eddie's arms. While Cletus is telling Brock about how he's a cancer again, Shriek shouts one last time at Carnage, causing Carnage to mortally wound Shriek, making Cletus distraught and causes them to fight against each other for control, Shriek then shouts at the top of the cathedral, ringing the church bell, giving Venom a chance to attack separate Cletus and Carnage, but causing the bell to fall on her, as she claims her love for Cletus one last time. I would then add a funeral scene, with Eddie hiding in the back and then after the funeral Eddie would stand in front of her grave and apologize. I would have Dan tell Eddie that he ratted him out to the police and that he and his parasite would pay, as he blames Eddie for Anne's death. As Dan leaves, Venom tells Eddie that they need to leave, as the police would be after them and Brock responds with that he knows just the place. The beach scene and the post credit scene would be the same. I know it's not perfect, but I think it would've at least added more to the movie and gave it more of the seriousness that it needed. I hope you enjoyed the fan rewrite.

I feel like a Carvnage movie with half the budget would still be more entertaining as long as it had an R rating and mad direction.

I thought the dynamic between Venom and Eddie was pretty funny.

Venom was written to be like Deadpool, but instead they nailed a Deadpool Cosplayer.

"humanizing carnage" that is everything wrong with the movie... Carnage is a serial killer, there is no humanizing him... this movie would be great if they make it into a slasher like film..

Thanks for such an accurate review.. now there are some serious points I'd like to add to this: First of all; Tom Hardy has nothing to do with Brock's character.. its all jokes and stupidity throughout both of the movies with him.. Woody Harrelson (despite his big potential for portraying insane characters) also has nothing to do with Cledus Kassidy either.. both of these actors and the director obviously have no interest in the core material at all.. Brock is supposed to be a serious and aggressive guy with mild mental issues, while Kassidy is all about histerical laughs and trolling everyone around him all the time.. yet in the movie, he is even more serious than Eddie??.. About symbiotes... again, Venom is all about rage, anger and hateful intentions; meaning business without any clownish act at all.. and Carnage is not supposed to be a fucking VELOCIRAPTOR, roaring all the time and acting/sounding exactly like Riot.. not to mention he doesn't have a fucking TONGUE like Venom does.. I mean what the fuck is this garbage?.. where are the maniacal laughters, where are the psychopathic scenes?.. what is this fucking drama & sadness obsession with all the villians, trying to make every single one them look tragic all the fucking time?.. They should have used Jim Carrey before he got too old........ anyways, why am I surprised at all?.. when there is no compassion left and so many tasteless sheep breathing in today's stinking world, how come one would expect something different, right?..

This movie should’ve been close to a Horror movie if not fully. But it further proves that you need these characters to be in a Spider-Man universe. Hope someone in the future has the balls to do a Rated R Spider-Man movie with the Symbiote’s done right. But that’ll be the dream

Carnage was just Venom but red and on stilts... He also sounded like an edgier Venom, not like a high pitched maniac like he should.

I share the same "dread" with any movie or show that I want to be excited about. Going to the theater used to be an anticipated experience.

Remember when the first trailer came out for the first movie..and we thought it was gonna be a horror film?..that just ran across my head..Now imagine how silly and goofy it's gonna be when venom meets...Tom Holland Spider-Man?!

The scriptwriters are unaware of the concept of "setup and payoff"... No artistic discipline. The Script is the problem.

I never believed that an R rating kept people out of theaters. I saw MANY R rated movies when I was under the age and never once was denied buying a ticket or admittance to the theater.

Sony and Fox both, they do one good first entry - or in eanom's case, ok entry - and then their idea for the sequels are just to do the things that got the best reactions up to 11 in the sequel, making it horrible.

I knew this was going to be bad the moment I saw that PG-13 rating.

At least we will have Venom in the Spider-Man 2023 game.

Funnily enough the first movie was generally considered a bad movie by any critical metric and yet it was a runaway success ticket-wise. Guess they bottled that lightning twice.. 😂

Thank you for warning me about this movie. I was excited to go see it in theater but now I'll spend my money on something useful.

(Spoiler Alert) I really liked the first venom movie. I left the theatre after this one feeling really meh. I feel like they tried to shove so much into the movie at once and made it move so fast. I also didn’t like how they are trying to fit venom into the Spider-Man universe. They could have had this be the first time venom meets Spider-Man, because as far as I know venom has only really known Eddie, but the scene where venom sees Peter Parker on the tv and says “him” in this serious tone seemed to come out of no where for me. I will say I really love Venom and Eddie, despite how the second movie kind of hurt that, but Venom is still my favorite character so I guess now I have to watch Spider-Man No Way Home.

Tom Hardy had a lot of control over the script. Even gets a story credit. An 'Odd Couple' dynamic between Venom and Eddie was exactly what he was aiming for. Considering it was a major selling point of the film, there was very little to it.

TBH my hopes for this movie weren't exactly high. And that says a lot since Carnage is one of my fav villains in the entire Marvel universe. To bad he didn't get better treatment than this. The first movie was a disappointing mess that had little to do with the comics. Eddie Brocks backstory in the comics is way better than in the movie even without Spiderman Venom/Carnage should be able to stand on their own legs. Problem is its obvious to everyone that both Venom and Cranage derives from Spiderman. Therefore Venom makes no sense without Spiderman. Without Spiderman Venom makes little sense.

Watching Thorias suffer for my enjoyment is very therapeutic.

The MCU has this youthful baby faced Spider-man whose supposed to still be in highschool. Venom played by 44 year old Hardy and Carnage played by 60 year old Harrison. What?

I don't expect anything from movies or western animation anymore. Especially with legacy characters or franchises. Trailer looks good= bait, to get regular people and hopeful fans... Director or actors saying to keep an open mind= the lore you knew we don't even gonna bother. This is own interpretation of it for "current" year politics and the new canon now. The main character(if male) ain't sidelining or being replaced= Main male character is bein emasculated, dumbed down for being problematic. when the humiliations while the main character is alive are completed. Main male character is killed and the body is not even cold but the humiliations have continue. If main character is female: Just give her the traits that the male main character had, only the good ones cause she can't have bad traits. The first of "anything" : Has no knowledge or deliberately choosing to omit that whatever they are doing has been done before and with better craft and care. At this point might as well get a coach and stay on the other side of the fence until a honest to God director and project comes along. But that is just wishful thinking.

I HATE how often studios think that a Character is a name, and most of a powerset. (Often not even all of it. And sometimes, like Dr. Doom, they can't even get THAT right.) People love these characters for Who they are. Not What they are. No-one gets hyped up because "Oh, a character who is named Carnage!".

I don’t know much about Shriek but I’ve never seen the look u pulled for her but I’ve always seen her in a yellow symbiote and in the comics is a part of life foundation symbiotes made from Venom same as Riot, and Carnage and Shriek are spawned from Venom so I think it was really odd choice to make them a couple

You had to have seen this coming. In the second Mobius trailer (and who the hell knows when that movie's gonna be released) it showed Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes in prison. This was inevitable.
