@@dieselgeezer18 Uhhh are you sure you're looking at the right value? You're either upgrading from 1200MHz to 1600MHz (the first D in DDR means double, so depending on what you look at, the frequency is either doubled or not...). Or you just wasted money because there were no DDR3-600MHz kits so you're trying to upgrade from DDR2->3 and... 600MHz isn't a DDR2 standard, 667 is so (?).

Ereder Good lord, I opened 12 tabs in chrome, all empty. I dropped like 400 MB in ram from that alone. What browser do you use? I have had a hundred or more tabs open previously at one point, HD video content in all of them. I use an extension called The Tab Suspender and it is amazing. It controls Chrome’s memory usage incredibly well by freezing unused tabs, which frees up resources for other processes. I used to use Firefox mostly but got tired of it freezing the whole browser once I hit a snag.

@@Ravenex2 I trully do not understand your question. what the F happend in the .. last decade? just use firefox. why does everybody seems to use chrome now... are they all using chromebook or what? It's terrible in all aspect (and don't let me get started in term of privacy.) i.imgur.com/ZLkgAPJ.png eddit: althought it's true that it can peak quite high if you go on imageboard with self reflreshing pages and tons of jpeg and pre loaded video(even moreso if it's a cyclic thread) i.imgur.com/ABFbAeC.png (i also had more tabs open with youtube playing etc. and based on memory alone you can already guess wich forefox windows had multiple imageboard's thread in them lol)

Every day it is the same to me. Got a PC in 2012, I want to upgrade in 2014...I don't. I want to do it in 2016, I don't, do it in 2018, I don't--No wait I kinda do it in very late 2018--But ONLY the GPU! Now it's 2020 and I want to upgrade...But DDR5 is about to come out, with some even cooler AMD CPUs...Time to wait another two years, right? And another 2 again. And again. And again. AND AGAIN. I am SURE of it.

Facundo Viale ddr3 or 4 or 5 matters only for gpu’s and for apu’s to but if let’s say you have a rtx 2080 and an i9 9900K and you have like ddr3 (which is not possible with an i9 ) 32 gb ram or 32 gb ram ddr4 it wont have an fps boost

@@abkh5094 My man, you need to learn a lot about ram, specially if you are trying to teach others. First of all, you wont notice the difference between 32gb ddr3 and ddr4 because you cant fill neither of them by gaming. You need exhaustive programs to test those amounts. Go and watch a few workbenchs of 8gb ddr3 and ddr4. The difference is such that 16gb ddr3< 8gb ddr4.

dude ddr3 works just fine. DDR5 is just a marketing "scam" to boost economy after the pandemic slumped the economy so they are probably speeding it up to get it out on the market just for that reason.

@@prydzen Not even. Because of the pandemic DDR5 will come out LATER than planned ;) In 2018 the discussions were, that the Ryzen 4xxx would already support DDR5. But because DDR5 is not ready yet - they stayed on DDR4 :)

@@Sniked It isn't just the RAM generation you benefit from. It's the entire platform too. Everything is faster on a DDR4 platform than a DDR3 platform all things being equal. The same will be true when DDR5 hits the mainstream market.

There are parts that work down to about 0.8V already on the market. Since the lower voltage parts seem always to the the faster parts, when we get down to zero volts, computers will be infinitely fast. (That is until you install Windows-11)

My PC that I have been using for years have just been acting foolishly but when I turned it on it straws blue screening and then it restarted and then restarted... I couldn't do anything so I just pushed the button for 5 seconds and then I turned it back on but it said Windows is saving files and stuff... and then it was on those one of those checking for problem stuff but my screen was glitching like the text were doubling... An then the looking for problems thing wasn't finishing I had it up for 1 hour and nothing was happening... I was so annoyed I just held the button for 5 seconds again... I have not turned it on since yesterday... Can you please tell me if my files are safe is the data corrupted... Is it broken forever... Please tell me... I'm very scared that it would not work anymore and I spent my savings on my PC

I bet it will stay at the prices now, at least until China stops producing DDR4. Then the price will go up after a while. But yes, only these "enthusiasists" always upgrade to the newest, best, shiniest. The real experts just went with APPROVED hardware.

If we go by the previous generations, price wont only NOT drop, it will be increased. The reason is, most platforms will support ddr4, but production will stop, the supply/demand will push the prices, like with ddr3.

Memory prices don't dip that much after newer launch. Old one stays same price and newer one just more expensive. And as newer tech gets affordable, older discountinued production one gets more expensive due to less supply. Thats what happened when ddr2 -> ddr3 and ddr3->ddr4.

Same -- went from a single core desktop with DDR1 400Mhz to quad core with DDR3 1600Mhz and will wait for a 16 core Zen 4 and 6400Mhz DDR5 minimum. The best upgrades normally come at 4x improvements or higher and I don't normally bother upgrading for anything less on a desktop. I'm on borrowed time right now with a Windows 7 2500K rig that's still kicking and on security updates until 2023. Hopefully I can wait long enough for PCIE 5.0 to come around the same time -- I just mostly want a mini ITX rig with 128GB RAM and I'll be good for another 10+ years easily.
