More Power Puller Extracts Bobcat

Better than a come-along winch. Using a simple hand powered winch (The More Power Puller) we were able to extract a 12,000 pound Bobcat (M-970) from a snowy ditch.
I bought the 3-Ton model that has the Amsteel Blue (Dyneema SK-75 Fiber) rope, and I love it! This winch is rated for 3 ton dead lift and 6 ton drag! The More Power Puller has an all Ductile iron frame, with a heavy duty steel reel. The More Power Puller comes with a heavy duty block with a heavy duty hook.
The whole winch weights only about 24 pounds and is much more compact than most other pullers. The Frame is about 13 inches long, and the over-all hook to block length is about 21 inches. both the regular handle (18 inches long) and the optional extension handle (also 18 inches long) are easily removed for even more compact stowage.
This winch comes with a little over 35 feet of rope, making possible a 35 foot (single line) pull or a 17.5 foot (double line) pull. Longer pulls mean fewer resets. Most of the other pullers I looked at only had a total of 10 to 12 feet of wire rope.
I purchased an optional extension handle, and find it to be highly recommended, especially when doing sinlge line pulls.
This winch is a quality American made product. The ductile iron frame is American made. The Amsteel Blue rope is made in America, and the whole winch is assembled in Ohio!
This winch is a true heritage tool that can be passed down to the next generation. The winch comes with a two year warranty.

I owned my first More Power Puller back in the 70's and used it to pull cars out of ditches to make money as a teen. Still have that first one and keep buying more as they come up at yard sales for $15 to $25..worth every penny and as you said, they still make them and the parts to fix too!

Dam as cool as that winch is , it looks like A LOT of work ! Especially when it’s probably only pulling that rope a half inch with each back and forth of that handle . But hey it can definitely bail you out of a tough situation . And another thing , that friggin driver got it stuck !! Get him out and start cranking ! Lol wth

That looks pretty good The problem is with the operator and the tires. FYI you don’t need all that winching when you have hydraulic cylinders to use. Next time chain to a tree over top the bucket lift bucket and continue resetting. And have the operator bucket himself out

Looks like a great SHTF or Off-The Grid option, because despite how slow it is, it requires no power and always works.

So far the right answer has come up several times. Tire Chains - I grew up in VT, and we NEVER used the tractor in the snow without chains! Secondly, any operator with a lick of skill could have bucketed himself out of that mess in less than 10 minutes. None of my comment is meant to disparage the More Power Puller under any circumstances. It's worth every penny you pay for it, slow but we used it in construction thousands of times to move hefty loads. Another thing - nylon tow straps are way safer than chains. And you wouldn't have had to put 2x4's around the tree. I giggled when I read "hellacious nut slap"!

Just a note for next time... As you pull him, he keeps on creating a new "slick" of icy mush below his tires by giving it gas. If he'd have left it in nuetral and you'd pulled him out of his slick and onto a fresh patch of ground, maybe a foot or so, you'd have a lot less pulling to do. He's helping you by moving, but really not all that much. Great video though! Thanks for sharing :D

A good demonstration of what can be done with a hand winch. Extremely useful tools when you need them. That said, a lot more can be done using a tow vehicle with the rope ran through redirect pulleys. This method even beats electric winches, if the situation allows. Not critisizing what was done here. I have done simular things and through necessity tried different methods. A 2wd half ton pickup yanking on a good rope will beat any common winch out there. Manual or electric.

Painful to watch is an understatement. I give the man credit for trying to do a good deed and educate his children. But if anything this was an example of how to do things the hardest way possible. The Bobcat was never stuck if a true operator was in the drivers seat. For going that, there was no need to use the handy little manual winch. This machine has a hydraulic bucket, let it do the work. The bucket can create much more pulling force in a much much shorter time, with very minimum physical effort required.

@skagited9617

WOW! This was painful to watch.... Definitely a good tool, the puller... but some really poor rigging techniques here. You should never pull on a flatly stretched chain like that; maintain at least a 60 deg angle on all corners; you were down to 10 or 15 deg. The effective pull on the chain (corner to corner on bucket) is about 9 times the force you were exerting with the winch. Good thing you weren't pulling something real heavy. Also, raising the bucket 5 feet or so would have increased traction on the front tires.
@asbestosfiber

I'm curious how much load is on the line from that bobcat during the single line pull. Sure it's a 12,000lb bobcat but all of that weight is being supported by the Earth. There has to be less than 3 ton on the line because that's the max drag load of the puller in a single line pull. Once switched to a double line pull, the max drag load increases to 6 ton. I know this puller is an absolute beast though and so much safer and stronger than an equivalent wire cable winch. great video

What pipe was used with the winch for leverage? Thanks
@Anomic-mo9ji
@Anomic-mo9ji Месяц назад
That company wants you to use their handle they designed for it. It is made to bend before an unsafe lifting force is applied to the winch. Any other pipe handle would defeat that so they don't want you to use another one. They come in 2 sizes and are quite reasonably priced so get a spare when you buy a new one to have on hand, I recommend you get the long handle to supplement the stock size that comes with it then you are all set if you bend one. Cheaper to replace a $16 handle then overload the winch with a steel pipe and catastrophically fail it under load
