I know he's not the strongest but Morel's by far my favorite hunter! He's so well rounded and was critical to the success of the Chimera Ant extermination.

That battle with the lion Chimera Ant and the cheetah guy were some of my favorite fights in HxH. Tactical, planned, and not just about throwing powerful punches till your opponent drops.

Smoker should learn a thing or two from this guy.

The aura that went out of the hospital when nanika healed gon is more likely adult Gon's aura than Nanika's in my opinion, judging by its colour and the fact that nanika never made such a burst of aura whatever she ever did. I think she kind of expelled the condition that Gon applied to himself, which was very strong according to the exorcist's reaction when he saw Gon

i feel like togashi would be an excellent game designer. (greed island makes me think that he might have wanted to design a card game or board game of some sort) i'm always impressed with the internal logic of nen, and i think some sort of nen-based strategy game would be intensely gratifying...

Morel, also known as the Single Star Sea Hunter, was born into a small fishing village near the ocean. From a young age, he showed an incredible affinity for the sea, spending hours every day swimming, fishing, and exploring the vast waters. As he grew up, he became known throughout the village as a skilled fisherman, able to catch more and larger fish than anyone else. However, Morel was different from other people in a number of ways. For one, he had an incredibly strong lung capacity, allowing him to stay underwater for extended periods of time. He also had a deep love for the ocean and all of its inhabitants, and would go to great lengths to protect it from harm. It wasn't until Morel was an adult that he first encountered a Hunter, and learned about the existence of Nen. Intrigued, he sought out a teacher who could teach him the ways of Nen, and began to train himself in its various techniques, including Ten, Zetsu, and Ren. As he trained, Morel discovered that he had a unique talent for manipulating aura, and came up with a special technique that he called Deep Purple. By using a large pipe, Morel was able to transmute his aura into a cloud of smoke, which he could then control to create living and non-living entities. This technique was inspired by his past as a smoker, though he had given up the habit in order to preserve his lung capacity. Morel also developed another technique called Smoky Jail, which allowed him to encase part of the ocean in a dense cloud of smoke. This made it easier for him to catch fish, as they were unable to escape the smoke and were trapped within it. Over time, Morel became known throughout the ocean as a protector and defender of the sea, using his skills and powers to stop anyone who threatened its inhabitants. He was even sought out by Chairman Netero of the Hunter Association, who had heard of Morel's reputation and wanted to recruit him into the organization. When Morel first met Netero, he was initially wary and tried to fight the chairman, believing that he was threatening the ocean. However, he quickly realized that Netero was far too strong for him to defeat, and that all Netero had been doing was testing Morel's strength. Impressed by Morel's abilities, Netero offered him a place in the Hunter Association, and Morel accepted, eager to use his skills to protect the ocean and its inhabitants on a larger scale. As a manipulator Nen user, Morel was always one step ahead of his opponents, using his skills to manipulate their thoughts and emotions to gain the upper hand in any situation. He was a force to be reckoned with in the world of Hunters, and his reputation only grew as he continued to protect the ocean and its inhabitants, becoming known as one of the strongest and most skilled Sea Hunters of all time.

A fight between him and Hisoka would be great. Both have versatile abilities and great at using them.

So his giant pipe is likely a Nen restriction he put on himself if he can't make any more smoke without it. Also it should be noted that he went into the final battle at 1/3, I think, of his full power due to him over using deep purple for a long time without resting.

The two dislikes are from Cheetah dude and lion dude.

Morel was such a bamf in the Chimera ant arc!

Morel is proud of his lungs so it's very counter intuitive for him to use smoke as his main Hatsu since that will hurt his lungs in the end. After setting that condition of damaging his lungs to use his nen, he is able to create such a powerful hatsu such as Deep purple. Not sure if this is what Togashi intended but it makes sense why Morel is not a smoker.

Morel gives me the impression of that cool uncle that fought in the Vietnam and was also in the navy, and smoked pot with Led Zeppelin back in the day

In his older age, Smoker should switch to a pipe...hopefully a large battle pipe that works in tandem with his abilities.

Missed reference- Deep purples most famos song is smoke on the water, as a smoking sea captain morel is literally smoke on the water.

Funny thing is, Morel himself was the literal proof of how nen ability and flexibility matters more than raw power. So much so I believe he can defeat pretty high tiers like Hisoka if he has good reflexes..

He was very exhausted by the time the palace siege took place but still manage to fight the way he did.

I dont think Morel uses Transmutation in Deep Purple, I always thought he was just manipulating the smoke itself from the pipe. Hence why he needs it. EDIT: I checked the wiki and the chapters they reference. He says in one translation he emits aura and then covers it with an "aura of smoke" and Im not convinced that he isnt actually just smoking and this is a confusing translation, I mean why else carry the giant pipe (that is also a useful weapon so its less of a restriction) and why cant he use Deep Purple without it?

HC that Morel heard about the advantage of smoking a pipe allowing you time to think when asked unexpected questions by taking a puff before answering, but didn't want to lose the lung capacity, so he developed the smoke transmutation hatsu first and figured out the rest later

Morel and Knuckle better get that triple star license after putting in the work in the chimera ant arc.

I'm surprised that Morel didn't get promoted to a second-star Hunter after his contributions during the Chimera ant arc. Pouf even admits that he could have won their duel if didn't go and help the others.

What would this ability more effect is when he can conjurer a smoking tube with the limitation that it only active when he loses his smoking tube.

Ingenuity is different than creativity. Morel might be skilled and knows how to work with what he got, but I feel that he is missing out on the ability to get creative with his surroundings, let alone the fact his hatsu specifically requires his pipe in order to work, he has shown the ability to create constructs with his smoke, a prison, pipes and rope, but he rarely uses it for much else so far, as we saw him use it to disguise his body as grass to hide from cheetuh, he has the potentially to do much more, from creating armor for himself and allies much like how his prison works, or by actively hiding his allies and himself constantly.

I've read somewhere that deep purple is also a reference of some type of smoke that causes hallucinations.

moral can transmute his aura into the shape of grass, the looks of other people and himself, this ability of his resembles hisoka's texture surprise a lot, i believe they have the same ability, hisoka manged to transmute his aura to take the shape, of skin, ink, spider tattoo.

The thing I do like about this anime is that everyone's abilities are Anonymous until you fight the person or you already know them and their ability I never understood why in animes the characters always blurt out their powers and abilities and how they work I mean I kind of get that it's for the audience but nothing is wrong with withholding it from the enemy and letting it be known to the audience

Have you done one about Feitan yet? Ever since I saw him fight the Chimera ants I've been fascinated with his ability. It looks OP AF, and I'm wondering how he isn't considered more of a threat. I remember thinking Kurapika and Hisoka could easily defeat almost all of the Troupe before seeing that episode.

lol he’s a C rank. they really didn’t try to win that chimera ant war. The old man had to die because he took the weak boys on the mission, although they completed the mission it would have gone way smoother if they had stronger team members. They could be part of the strong team, but only to do the recon and infiltration
