MORNING FRAGRANCES 

I keep coming back to this video over and over again. 4711 reminds me of late spring- early summer in the Mediterranean and watching my grandad shave in the morning while my grandmother makes coffee and listens to the radio. Thank you for bringing back some wonderful childhood memories.

My equivalent to the mandarin/cardamom cologne is 'mandarine basilic' Aqua Allegoria by Guerlain. It's very refreshing after a morning shower. It lasts about 30minutes to an hour and has a very natural/realistic aroma of basil and Clementine.

A truly stunning intro and as always a great review. Body chemistry is a funny thing. Both 4711 and Pinaud Clubman last more than 6 hours on my skin therefore I can't use them as my "wake up" fragrances. The Solea aftershave (not to confuse with Nivea) is my go to wake up scent. Chris at Scent Land recommended it and I had a friend from Serbia purchase it for me. It's lovely and gives you a great start to the day. Once again thanks for a great review Lanier, I wish you all the best.

Good Morning Lanier! Really enjoying hearing about your morning routine. Love those old Barbershop fragrances after a shave! Clubman makes a leather classic called Clubman Special Reserve. It smells like an floral baseball glove. But in a good way. My scent this morning is Rochas Moustache EDT 1949 Original. It’s a beautiful citrus that smells like the south of France. It has a floral dry down of citrus fruit sitting in the hot sun! It’s a dry fragrance. It was re-released 2 years ago? I have a 1960’s Vintage version and did a side by side with the new release and they got it right! You would love it!!! The bottle and the box are gorgeous. 10+ design.

Very interesting routine. Not having much time in the morning, I usually put on my scent of the day; so I choose a long lasting one. I hope I'll have more time in the future, and start my days more slowly, taking all the time needed. It's always a pleasure to listen to you, Mr Smith.

I loved it when you reminisced about the barber dabbing the tops of your ears with cologne. It made me remember when my mom used to put Jean Nate after bath splash on me when I got out of the bathtub. I haven’t thought of that in 55 Years until watching your video!

Aaaaah the highly underrated EDC! Perfect to start the day with!!! I'm also a member of the litre sized 4711 club. Canoe takes me back to my youth...I always have had a bottle lying around. Another barbershop-y, after-shave that I adore is the Italian shaving classic, Prorasso. I found it at Washington National Airport (of all places!) A note about the Pinaud Clubman though--and it's an important one. Somehow they decided the plastic bottles were the way to go, and they are NOT! Decant the bottle into glass and do it now. If Clubman sits in the plastic bottle, it just dies within the span of a couple months. I suspect it has to do with some reaction of the oils. I use a glass bottle from IKEA. Works like a charm, and I can use it all without it going sour (not as though the $3.99 from CVS is going to break the bank, but it's the principle!) Just as an aside, Pinaud still makes a passable Bay Rum and Lilac Vegital which is a little slice of heaven.

I love it when you discuss Cologne. I think Cologne is so under appreciated. I also like a bracing wake up splash in the morning. Chanel edc is good. Perfumerh london to do some good colognes like their Petit Grain and I am using Bravanariz Silvestre familiar cologne which is woody and very herbal. I follow with a stronger perfume which seems compatible after lunch as Dacob taught me ‘why not’???

Looking for a review of "Shalimar", I was fortunate to find your channel. What a pleasure to watch. Might I recommend to you an old classic ladies fragrance called "Habinita" from Molinard for you to try if you haven't already. It is a lovely oriental made in the early 1920's. Would love to see you review it.

So we finally caught a glimpse of your collection in the intro mr. Smith. Very nice. Concerning 4711 I still remember that my grandmother on my fathers side, who had German roots used it and she called it by it's original name "4711 echt Kölnisch wasser" and I have considered buying a bottle for my sister. Where can you find Canoe? I also need to try the Florida water and some of those other 4711 scents. I find that Ferrari Bright Neroli and Dunhill Icon give me a bit of that 4711 feel with better longevity and sillage ... of course in the morning you don't want that longevity ... but it is nice for later in the day. Do you also have scents that you apply in the evening before bed? I have heard one reviewer say that he uses Elizabeth Arden Green Tea as a soothing scent just before bed.

Suggesting "Van Cleef" by VC&Arp.... Just when you have a free day. The bottle is nice!

Magnifique, Lanier! I got a 200 ml bottle of 4711 from my son last Christmas and have always loved it before. As an amateur perfumer myself I dig the traditional "cologne" culture and have created a few myself. Have yet to smell the Chanel one though!! Pinaud Clubman, love it! Bought my last bottle on one of my (now part of a past life for 4 years) US trips. Must order some. In Europe I also got the known German Pitralon (since 1927) last year and love it, and the Irisch Moos. Also found a nice crisp and big bottle of typical Eau de Cologne in Finland. This is great stuff. Cheers from the True North (Canada).

Wouldn,t i love to read that book on perfume! I,m sitting here on my porch watching my hummingbirds. I have planted a garden for them and the butterflys. Well,Lanier,i have to have a handicap chair in the shower now. I,m losing platelets,and stay dizzy,but yes,have to have our morning rituals whatever it takes. Yeah for the Chanel! Perfect timing as always, Lanier! I sometimes use Florida water after my shower to do the same thing.... or orange flower water. Have you tried Mauboussin for men? I blind bought that (I actually have both the editions for men and women and love them equally) and it has a lovely lavender in it as well. I think you would love it. Thanks for having lunch with me! Since you mention 4711, I wanted to mention 4711 shower gel-- smells great and works well as a shampoo. I love Chanel Deauville as much as you do, so I'd like to recommend Deauville body lotion-- I use it as an aftershave balm. Just wonderful! And my Bro in law LOVES 4711-- I get him their products every Xmas. As an aside, have you ever tried Molinard Homme 1, 2, or 3? My sister said that she uses No. 2 more than my bro in law does! Later!

Hi Lanier..I picked up a bottle of Canoe about a year ago ..and like you had smelled it many yrs ago..my first memory of it was when i was about 8 or so yrs old...I visited w/my parents..a family who had an older son..he prob was about 16 or 17...so while the parents were catching up he took me out to the corner candy store which had a soda fountain and he bought me a plastic ring w/a blue "stone" in it..and showed me how he played w/a YoYo..to do tricks w/it...he bought me a yoyo and i remember that when i got home i could smell his hand(which had Canoe on it) from when he handed me the yoyo....it was my first scent memory...and it was of admiration for this teenager who was kind to me as i was a short kid........nostalgia and almost a dream eh?.........in any case the Canoe of now is much less potent and thinner in its scent....it even seems so synthetic now compared to say 1958 or so.......cause i purchased a bottle myself shortly after that...i saved up cause then Canoe was a "new" and "french" cologne.......i have the new bottle from last yr in my bathroom and it sits there unused mainly because it seems almost a sweet bug spray...lol..........In any event i thank you for the morning video......Bob
