The voice that i fell in love with about 27 years ago. I haven’t been listening to him much lately, but this brought back everything I love(d) about him into focus. It’s actually brought some tears to my eyes....not to sound all dramatic.
This is a landmark, both the lead vocal and the production. Of course the band kills it. Of course it does. But it is the production that gets this right.
@@gchance Monotone my ass. This is as good a cover of the song as it could get. Yes, acrobatics is an overstatement, but Chryssie didn't do any either in the original., the singing was quite honest and straightforward. They're not extremely gifted opera singers, but both have sung this song in a warm, powerful, enjoyable and unique way, though.
The original key this song was not too difficult for the average decent singer to do. It’s just that Morrissey has his own great signature vocal “quality”.
I honestly came here expecting to have a chortle at old middle age spread Morrisey. But. This was simply brilliant. And a song where you can actually here the bass parts, too, instead of lost in the crappy mix most music gets these days. Top dollar.
When Morrisey sings this, the words are far clearer than in the original by Chrissy Hines. It’s got a mellower aspect with his delivery - but the theme is not mellow.
Morrissey is a world-class vocalist. He has a quiff and can sing as well as Elvis. He can sing in tune, which a number of contemporary artists are incapable of. His songs are also amusing, melodic and catchy. He is a big influence on our music. No Serial Killer.
I found a picture of you, oh oh oh oh It hijacked my world at night From a place in the past We've been cast out of, oh oh oh oh Now we're back in the fight Yes we're back on the chain gang Whoa, back on the chain gang A circumstance beyond our control, oh oh oh oh The phone, the TV and the news of the world Got in the house like a pigeon from hell, oh oh oh oh Sand in our eyes, descending like flies Yes we're back on the chain gang Whoa back on the chain gang The powers that be That force us to live like we do Bring me to my knees When I see what they've done to you But I'll die as I stand here today Knowing that deep in my heart They'll fall to ruin one day For making us part I found a picture of you, oh oh oh oh They were the happiest days of my life Like a break in the battle was your part, oh oh oh oh Lonely heart, lonely hearts Yes we're back on the chain gang Oh back on the chain gang (chain gang)
Even when he covers an already well-distinguished song, he delivers it, both vocally and physically, with his unique flair. Moz always makes it his own... A true artist! :-)
After many great and successful years in the industry, Morrissey still has that raw talent that pelted him Into stardom all those years ago, absolutely adore him!
It took a Covid 19 pandemic and being quarantined for weeks at home for me to find this song version by Morrissey. Regardless of how I got here, I love it!
For everyone who is watching a Morrissey video for the first time, he has a lovely singing voice, is a master on the guitar (at least as good or even better than Jeff Beck) but you should hear him play piano ...
I've been a Smiths fan since '86. That said, even though you are being sarcastic, claiming someone is as good as Jeff Beck is not funny, because there are very few who are.
Cover never beyond the original. Especially this is one of the best Pretenders’ songs. But! Morrissey! Super talented vocalist! I like this version as same as the original.
@GREEN try cleaning your ears out, this is feeble compared to the energetic Pretenders version. Morrissey sounds like he’s hardly invested in any of it.
This is probably my favorite song ever. Pretenders are amazing and this song takes me back. I've loved Moz since ever and so this couldn't be better. Thank you!
>May 22nd Happy birthday to you, Morrissey!!!! I wish you to have love, good health, and creative successes. - from Krasnoyarsk, Siberia, Russia, come visit us sometime!
My brother, as I was going back to college to get my life in some sort of order back in 1995, throws me this CD; The Queen is Dead, and tells me "listen to that, and take a break for Michael Jackson". Not that MJ was bad music by a long shot, but quite honestly, that CD changed my perspective on music and perhaps even life.
Opal! ... on a morrissey video? .... you are stalking me !! Hahaha. This just gets more crazy by the second! 👑⚠😐! ❌💜 do watchaa gotta do and gooo !! . . . 🆗
