Great reaction, I loved this Rockabilly stage of Moz’s career. ‘King Leer’ is another favourite of mine, which I think you’ve already reacted to. And a B-side called ‘The Loop’. They all have that same rockabilly sound and echoey effect on Moz’s vocals which I love.
This one of my favorite Mozzarella songs. It's Mozz at his stingy waspish and witty. Unlike alot of hardcore fans , I love Kill Uncle, a very underrated album. Sadly he ruined the remastered version by swapping out the single version of There is a place in hell for me & my friends. The original is a beautiful version. Great reaction, as always. Nice Reaction as per Nick. You have to check out the live performance on The Tonight Show one of these days too. He also sings There's A Place in Hell for Me and My Friends and everything from his hair to the audience's reaction is just glorious.
Kill Uncle is a quirky little album and yes it was not critically well received in the UK. Even Moz himself has all but disowned it - a great shame as I think it's a great and very underappreciated Morrissey album. Opinions aside however, it cannot be denied that this was an important transitional period for Morrissey. As you said, he hadn't yet found his feet as a solo artist - thankfully he did so just a year later with his newfound band and the truly excellent "Your Arsenal".
First chord progression, just the entrance, is my favorite part of this song. I don’t think I would say feminine I just feel like it’s really subtle and simple and a lot of songs have join them by Morrissey not most of them but some do and this one is the simplest one but the chord progression is so great.
The acoustic version of ‘Back to the old house’ is my favourite. There’s also ‘John Peel session’ versions of ‘This Charming man’ and ‘What difference does it make’ which are quite different from the studio album versions you’ve already reacted to. So if you’re missing reacting to The Smiths, I’d definitely recommend listening to those 3 songs/versions, which can all be found on the Smiths compilation album ‘Hatful of Hollow’.
Love your Moz reaction videos, Nick! It's a pity that Clive Langer's production let Kill Uncle down, but Morrissey and the band really did those songs justice on the live performances on their 1991 tour. productionwise kill uncle was a mistake. such a disappointing album. yet time would show me some songs on it are really beautiful. sing your life is one of them. such a touchinh song. a shame that effect on morrissey's voice. it does nothing to the song. anyway, I love it. watch the video when you can, nick. chrissie hynde of the pretenders is on it. she's a very good friend of morrissey's. and... nick... sing your life! ❣️
