Subzero's fatality in MK 1 had senators and parents all across America freaking out. Nintendo refused to put it in their game. I will never forget that game. People can say what they want but MK 1 paved the way for most action games especially bloody violent, realistic games. I know my mom was like oooh hell no!! But my dad hooked me up. He wanted to play it just as bad as I did.
The Reptile head gulp from MK2 has long been my favorite. Going "Mmmm!" and rubbing his stomach is such a great touch, as well as his neck expanding when he swallows their head.
I was definitely going to say the neck stretch for worst fatality, but after seeing the regret and shame for Scorpion changing into a penguin... Yeah, I gotta go with that.
@@gutspuck721 it suits his character though. He doesnt kill, that was until everyone moaned about Liu Kang being a monk and wanted him to completely change as a character.
Yeah, have Scorpion change into a penguin instead of, ya know, a scorpion, because they gave that animal to someone else It's almost like they never intended to put the male ninjas into MK3 until Ultimate came around (/)_=
6:05 - 'And so, the thought was, well we can be nice too and put in these Friendships.... so instead of.... ripping someone's heart out, you can give them a cake.' Laughed so fucking hard
The first fatality I ever witnessed was Scorpion's toasty fatality in the first game. I was floored on so many levels: the violence, the screen going black, that there was just a skull under that mask.
I'm shocked nobody picked Liu kang's gymnastics fatality as their least favorite. I know that was from mk1 and they were still figuring things out, but that was as weak as it gets!
The idea was that Liu Kang was a Shaolin Monk and abhorred violence, so he had a non-lethal finisher (unless you did it on The Pit, then he knocked them three stories down onto some spikes...) But then, they realized that nobody liked that, so they made him be violent like everyone else
I had the first MK on Snes, the fatalities there where heavily censored. The first one I accidentally did was on an MK II arcade cabinet that I was waaaay to young to play on. Barrakas decapitation with a big bloodblob coming out of the neck and had a bloop sound effect when it hit the ground. OMFGWHATTHEFWASTHATHADIDIDOTHAT???OMGOMGOMGOMG
neck stretch would have been hella funny if it had the head fall down behind the victim and drag on the ground while they took a couple steps and fell over.
Nothing ever will top MK1-MK2-MK3-UMK3-MKT Not saying the new games aren't good, but the ones I mentioned had this 90's feel And even when it had humor it felt like really dark IDK I can't really explain it
Lol could you imagine being a part of the original games? Legendary. These guys are so funny. "If you were really lit on fire, this is probably how your arm would move" @ 4:40
Fatalities in the latter games of the franchise became over-the-top and ridiculous, rather than cool or darkly funny. I guess all franchises go through content quality decline…
You seem to be under the impression that "over-the-top and ridiculous" and "cool and darkly funny" are mutually exclusive. Also, the whole point of the Fatality is to rub salt in the wound of the opponent by committing murders that break the laws of physics, so they *should* be OTT. Also also, the newer Fatalities do a much better job of matching each character's powers and personality (such as having Sub-Zero freeze his opponents before pulling their spine out, or Johnny Cage using his opponent's upper torso for a bad ventriloquist act)
@818zane Yes thats around MK Armageddon release as its included in the extra's section. Also tobias left halfway trough MK Special Forces development , right after mk4 was done.
I have an idea for Kabal's "fatality". He takes the mask off, then he takes out a mirror and looks at it, and scares himself off the stage. He could also show the mirror to the opponents Kabal and both would take their masks off and run away scared. That would be so damn funny. Shame they didn't think about it at the time.
I was born in 85 so I really got into Mortal Kombat 1 and 2 growing up in that was the most violent game obviously and I kind of left it I bought Mortal Kombat 3 I played that for a while I didn't get the Ultimate Edition but man whenever deception came out I fell in love with that game again that game was so immersive I loved the conquest mode so much going two other rounds and free-roaming sort of and it was just a great game all around I wish they would do another one just like deception
Oh man I'm with u on that I was born a year early in 84..played mk1,mk2,mk3,umk3, I remember I played mk trilogy then took a break from the series cause I was kind of burn out and wanted to play other games and another fighting game wwe..then when I heard mka I brought it and got back into the mk series.
Crazy to think that MK1 (Sub-Zero's fatality in particular) was the mother of the ESRB rating we all know today. See that M for Mature/18 rating on the game case? Thank MK1 for that!
Mk4 is the only game in the series that didn't turn dark when you perform a fatality on an opponent but mk1 and mk2 are still the best in series but I do like the later ones too though.
MK2 fatalities were so much better than MK3. MK3 fatalities seemed lazy and like some bad photoshop jobs. The one where a torso gets sliced off, you see the hands still floating there. I mean c'mon
Least favorite Fatality is Classic Subzeros Censored head rip in UMK3/MKT. I don’t get why they censored it because UMK3/MKT already had decapitation fatalities, so they wouldn’t need to create all new character sprites just for subzeros head rip.
I wonder what year this vid was made lol I knew it looked mid 2000s ish so when they stopped at MKA I wasn't surprised Going to get my ps3 out of the closet and play mk arcade kollection thx to this vid.
I think this was one of Armageddon's unlockables. Also, it's really sad that that mediocre collection is the most recent rerelease of the original trilogy...
The babality could’ve been way better! Instead of having the dark voice say “Babality” it could’ve said “Who’s Your Daddy?” Just as the winning fighter walks up and picks up the baby with a smirk to piss of the losing player even more lol
They haven’t been the same since going 3D. Wish they would do digitized graphics w modern technology. It just looked and sounded original as opposed to be another fighting game.
While I do agree that using the same digitized actor technique but with modern technology would be awesome, MK still has a unique style that's very much its own and can't be mistaken for anything else. Part of that is using a mixture of different Asian cultures and pouring bright colors all over it (mostly blood red), and part of that is being one of the only major fighting game franchises left that's made outside of Japan (not counting Skullgirls or Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid because they're made by smaller studios)
I think fatalities have gotten even sillier, gross and twisted, to an unnecessary (mentally ill) level, since the first MK. There was once something very cool about the MK mythology, revolving around a mysterious/magical corrupt Shaolin legend/tradition, that no longer exists in any of the current titles. Everything is so over the top and stupid, with lots of fan servicing now. They keep thinking they have to stretch it further and further, while maintaining the faith that the violence level and fatalities are the most important element of the game, despite the fact that it is only partial reason to the franchises success. The digitized characters, was something new and interesting for the time (Pit Fighter and Narc) and I hoped that with modern technology, we'd be able to make them look more fluid and even more realistic. Man...so much time has passed. I remember going to the mall as a young teenager (90s), making a bee line for Street Fighter 2 with my friends and to the side, there was a group of people standing behind another machine. We went to see and it was Mortal Kombat. First time I saw someone do Sub-Zero's fatality. Everything changed that day. They had something.
I liked mk 9 a lot. the series has defiantly had it's misses. but i feel like 9 was a really good come back...then they screwed it up with X having SHIT pc support.
I want an exact MK1 remake with that kind of sound design and scary LIFELIKE graphics with super fluid photographed animation in 2D 4K. I bet it would succeed without today´s nonsense MK, taking itself too serious with funny content that has no place in the dark MK1 MK2 universe.
Any Laotions reading this that speaks laotion fluently may find this funny. _(stupid but funny)_ Because I do. lol So if you pronounce Kitana with a "ee" sound it would be "kee-tana" Now say the three syllables separately and get a funny sentence if speaking lao. LOL!! kee-tah-nah. kee=shit tah=smear/rub on nah-face
Arcade mk1 I use to kill it with sub zero, and yes indeed ripping their heads off was like me telling you, you ain't shit 😂. Feel bad for the kids today who won't ever get the experience of a real arcade social life.
Thank you for saying that. That what i also think. After MK3 Trilogy everything went stupid cartoonish plus they got involved in mixing MK with other games which took its aura away from it. It just became a huge mess money grab & nothing more.
