I have the same rifle…for about 4 years. The play in the action is a bit annoying but other than that, it’s a tack driver. Took it to the range and was hitting a 3” gong at 400 yrds every pull of the trigger. Had a couple people walk up and try it out and we’re impressed. I just use it for coyotes but what you get for the $ (4 years ago) is a good deal

*You're not sand bagged and no match ammo, 1 and 3/4 inch groups are all you should be asking for, sand bags and handloads if you want sub MOA. Expecting a rifle like that that to be sub MOA out of the box with shit ammo and no sand bags is unfair and I find your lack of faith disturbing.*

*I saw a guy who can't run a bolt gun suck it up, you can bind up any bolt action rifle no matter how slick and nice it is if you suck, and this is not a 1000 dollar rifle so I'm sure it's sloppy but come on, take that collared shirt off and try again. Let me know in five years if you're still having problems.*

Thanks for posting. 1 3/4" with cheap steel case ammo is decent in my book, as that is more accurate than a lot of entry level AR's can manage with the same sort of ammo. I have found that the .223 PMC Bronze 55gr and .223 Fiocchi 55gr shoot very well out of my 1:9 twist AR's, and the PMC Bronze is just about the cheapest brass ammo you can get. Won't fix the other issues you complain about but might improve the accuracy 👍

I have the .308 version of this rifle but do not have any of the problems you experience with it. I also have a MVP Varmint that I have achieved 1/4 inch groups with at 120 yards using my handloads with 60 grain Hornady ballistic tip or Nosler 55 grain Varmageddon. It may be that you need better magnification but also the Mossberg factory magazine isn't very good. I use Magpul 10 round magazines and they do not jam up like in your video. Try some 10 round Magpul magazines and that might fix the jamming problem.

I have the 308 patrol model, the bolt is made differently and is a lot more beefy. I have never tried m14 mags but all the other mags “magpul etc” and even the standard one it comes with work very well. This gun was built as a rugged patrol gun. It works with variety of ammo and a variety of mags it’s going to be loose in the bolt it’s meant for duty use.

The scope you have mounted does not have equal spacing from one side to the other, as it appears in the video. Perhaps look at the way the scope is mounted, then look at ammo, perhaps get the rifle sandbagged.

Have it in 308, magazine perfectly tight not a tiny move, bolt runs smooth no issue at all and it is tac driver :) you just might have a crapy piece or I got the good one, either way, this is a bush rifle good for my application, nothing fancy like my sako but it gets the job done :)

LOL, yeah Nickelback says it all. I went with the Ruger American Ranch. I've only put a few boxes of ammo through it, but amazingly my Nikon BDC scope I picked up needed just two clicks adjustment of left windage to have it put round after round through the same hole. I was shooting quarter inch groups at 70 yards within the 2nd shot. The bolt isn't perfect, but it feeds well and will smoothen up over time. I avoided the Mossberg MVP in both 7.62 x 51 and 5.56. I'll restock my .450 BM, 5.56, and 7.62 x 39 Ranch rifles. They improve on accuracy like you won't believe once you do that.

I bought this same rifle and was disappointed with the bolt feeding action. Hangs up and is very rough. I installed an aftermarket magazine well that would stabilize the magazine better and it did improve performance but as far as reliability I just don't have the confidence in it. It's fun to shoot and that's about it. I don't have confidence in it for hunting or self defense.

I used to have one the exact model you have. That rifle was THE BIGGEST POS I ended up pawning it. And just never went back to get it out. So many things were not good about it. The bolt and the way it interacts with stripping the ammo off the mag was just terrible. This video is the first one that actually shows how terrible this rifle and the models like it really are. If a guy wants the ar mag to work in his bolt gun I would definitely recommend the Ruger over Mossberg.

I like the barrel and the trigger but the bolt slop is annoying. The sloo in the magazine well sucks. I have discovered the American Tactical magazines fit tighter. The snug fit with the magazine helps the slop with the bolt also. I only use American Tactical magazines in my mossberg now.

A Co worker of mine has the Thunder ranch model, many a woodchuck fell to this implement. He has a small Vortex scope and shoots the green tippers. It shoots just as good as my 25-06. People buy a AR rifle and spend thousands to get the rifle they want, Why? I dunno. This rifle is about 750.00, maybe more now. Lap the action, try different things but don't give up on it.

So you got a 1:9 twist in a 16" barrel and tried to shoot 77gr out of it expecting sub MOA accuracy? Sounds like user error. 1:9 is best suited for 55-62gr. I have the 18.5" flex model and the rifle shot sub MOA out of the box with 55gr PMC bronze. Just had to replace the OEM mag because they do suck. Lancer tactical mags allow you to close the bolt on an empty magazine while most others do not. But the steel 10rd CMMG mags that are pretty common fit without any wobble. Also I have no wobble at all with my bolt at all to where it gets misaligned. Literally came 2nd in a speed match against a semi auto. But looking at your experience with 55gr in another comment and your bad takes make me think you're just not as qualified in skill to make such a review as you think you are.

Another fix…. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-g7O2tH6rUSU.html. Tromix Mossberg mvp 5.56 magazine well
@t436
@t436 Год назад
Did that and polished the bolt. You really gotta break the mag release in. Once installed with lube you have a difficult time removing mags bolt closed. That being said, I haven' had the missed round issue where I'm playing Russian roulette on a bolt action rifle. Polymer mags seem to be tighter fit with that Tromix but nothing to cry about. The price is where folks might shy away and duck tape mags.
@Valorius

I don't really get the point behind 5.56 bolt action rifles. I never have.
@professorpewpuew
@professorpewpuew Год назад
Yeah. If you want a dedicated varmint rifle, a 22-250 or a 220 Swift would be a better option. I can imagine a 5.56 bolt would do okay in that role and still be an option for defense in the ban states.
@Valorius
@Valorius Год назад
220 swift is the space balls of varmint cartridges. "Engage ludicrous speed!" I would personally never pick a bolt gun for defense unless I had no other choice. I can't think of any state that bans lever guns or pump actions (rifle or shotgun) Remington makes a neat pump action 5.56mm rifle that takes AR mags, they are very popular in Australia.
@professorpewpuew
@professorpewpuew Год назад
@@Valorius I think Troy made a Pump AR at one point. Honestly, I've always lived in free states but I would not hesitate trading an AR for a good lever gun. I can't imagine wanting a bolt over any other alternative.
@Valorius
@Valorius Год назад
@@professorpewpuew I never saw one of those pump AR's in the wild, but I remember they were out there. Like you said, a .357 magnum lever gun is a tremendous choice for darn near anything.

Ya cant call foul, for poor results shooting, when you choose wrong ammo! A 1:9 twist doesn't stabilize a bullet as long as most 77g. I have shot a number of these rifles an every one has been quite accurate. But every maker has lemons and every tifle has ammo it simply doesnt like to group well. I bought a Pedator model from a guy at a public range one day who was so frustrated at groupings of the gun. I immediately suspected his cheap scope. But I found a disgustingly dirty barrel and loose scope mounts! Scope altho cheap Simmons proved just fine. This gun with load work up shoots honest 1/2 moa with many sub 1" 200 yard targets. Sometimes it can be the shooter who hasn't built abilities to shoot small groups.
@professorpewpuew
@professorpewpuew Год назад
Yeah. I tested the heavier loads just to say I did, although most of the 55 grain loads I tested didn't give me great groups either. Oddly enough, the cheap stuff did the best. That sometimes happens. I have heard a lot of good things about the Predator model but found out that Mossberg no longer catalogs the gun.
@Johnny-jr2lq
@Johnny-jr2lq Год назад
I have this rifle as well it really is that bad he isn’t over doing it. The bolt is truly terrible on the patrol and the models like it. I will admit I didn’t get as bad as he did with accuracy. But if your not careful with the gun and running the bolt fast it will indeed jam bullets into the case. Thus causing terrible malfunctions because that flapper that strips the cartridge off the mag only works one way. Kinda like a one way check valve or a Chinese finger trap. Now that I think about it the only ammo I would consider running in the patrol would be steel case. That bolt flapper is so ruff on brass cases it not even funny. Personally I’ll be replacing the one I pawned with a Ruger American ranch the bolt design is a million time better. Same concept it uses AR mags but just WAY better thought out bolt head design to strip the 556 off the stanag magazine
@cw2a
@cw2a Год назад
@@Johnny-jr2lq Johnny, Many complain about that bolt flapper. My reply is folks like to find fault with everything & usually never them selves. Back when these was released there was no ar mag bolt 223/556. This was how they got it to work. Mine is fine. Poor mechanics can really show with some guns and the rough finish on this one has cause some problems. The bolt is very simular to a Savage 110. A proven design. EVERYONE and thrre mothers uncle is a bolt expert & complains of bolt slop with a open bolt. But very few will pay for a bolt life a Sauer where its non existent. Across the board this is what sub 1k buys. But its not nearly the problem many "experts" make it out to be millions of Rem 700's with all the bolt slop work just fine. This one can be picky with magazines. Many wont run a poly mag. Most have issue with more then 10 round. You cannot shoot more then a 20 from bench. ITS A BOLT GUN. Rarely is there a "need" for such capacity. In experience shows here IMHO.

@@professorpewpuew Ruger Americans about killed Mossberg line. Over all I think they are better guns. I found a load with a 60g V-Max bullet thats a great shooter. Coyotes dont care much for it. I ran some 68/69g over H335 that showed much promise too. My 65g Varget load that usually shoots in any 223 is only OK in this one. I am also lucky & run P-mag 10 rnd zero issues.

@ToddC.17
@ToddC.17 6 месяцев назад
Okay so first off you’re shooting 100 yards with a scope made for quick target acquisition. It’s finest line is .8 MOA that’s ideal for an AR. Try using a scope that has .2 MOA lines or smaller and you will see the change in your accuracy. I’ve done the same thing with my AR equipped with a vortex strike eagle which the center dot is 1 MOA in size. If you try sighting in at 100 yards it will almost never be sub MOA because the reticle itself is 1 MOA. My mossberg MVP 5.56 has a arken LH-4 4-16x44 with a center dot being .04 MOA in size and at 100 yards is consistently 1/2 moa groups or better. That being said you chose the wrong scope for shooting sub MOA
