Thank you 7N6 for the great instructions/techniques! I will definitely put these to use when I take my Shockwave to the range for the first time. I also bought this gun for home defense.
Thank you for your time and teaching me how to handle my firearm in a proper and respectable way of having a firearm I watched and learned as much as I could for at least 3 months before I even fired this firearm and thank you again
Excellent demo for proper technique...more people need to see this....I've watched some dumb stuff being done with pistol grip shotguns, and this vid clears the fog, definitely. Thanks for the info!
Thanks for those shooting position techniques. With your explanation it will be useful to incorporate into a shooting practice routine. Especially for dry fire muscle memory.
I love my Shockwave. I’m hearing lots of negativity out there, as you do with all gun people, but it’s extremely mobile. You can run through doorways and tight spots with ease. Like most gun owners I have several firearms, each having different purposes for different scenarios. It’s very fun to shoot. Most self defense situations are within the Shockwaves range. In the end you have to do what works for you.Lets try to stay positive and stick together to PRESERVE OUR SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS and unite to fight against the true enemy . I’m glad you have found the Shockwave useful. Thanks for the vid 😊
@@carljohnson6264 i was able to get my hands on the last one in my whole city. Immidiately after a restock too. I was lucky. I spent money i shouldnt have but i dont regret it. Theres no safer feeling than having a 12 gauge behind the bed as you sleep and a hell cat in the pocket holster tucked into my bedside drawer. Aint no one coming into my house without getting shot at least a couple times.
@@juanmccoy3066 Yup. And don't forget, one trigger pull sends 9 00 Buck pellets into the chest of the perp at 10' at the same time. Each pellet is 33 caliber! God help him!
Excellent video! I got the 20 ga version for extra home defense and for my wife to use and was not sure how to instruct her to handle the weapon and manage aim and recoil. This is a complete primer for ANYONE, and gave me tremendous confidence in handling what seemed an awkward gun at first. Now it’s cant miss even with the adrenaline pumping. Simple techniques that are intuitive for each situation. THANKS!!
Everybody else who tries to shoot this firearm makes it look sloppy as a soup sandwich. The methods you are demonstrating have always made sense to me, didn't take me very long to figure out either. I don't know why so many others aren't attempting this. Great video, thanks for sharing 👍
He's using birdshot obviously. Which is totally fine because he's going over technique, stance, and form. The first thing I noticed was how little kick this thing was giving him. Looks like he's using a 22 pistol. If you throw buckshot in that you better have adrenaline pumping through your veins or it's going to fly out of your hands or get you in the face. At least throw a pistol grip on it (Breacher's Grip Gen 3 to keep the overall length within legality) or a brace on top of that. You simply cannot use this firearm the way he is demonstrating when using maximum stopping power shells.
Great video! Thanks for taking the time to demonstrate some things with this firearm rather than giving up calling it 'useless' or saying you have to add several hundred $$ worth of accessories! 👍
best tac instruction i have seen since basic . Thanks . My problem is none of the ranges I frequent will let me shoot the damn thing . I only ran 15 rounds through mine in the five month I had it.
A lot of ranges wont let u shoot shotguns period in the city. Find some good BLM land u can shoot on or a ditch somewhere. Maybe a friend in the outskirts u can set up in the backyard. Ppl will say "check state laws" bla bla bla. Just dont get caught and more importantly set up safe so no one can get hurt and ull be fine. I live near a desert and I head out to the mesa all the time to shoot up old washing machines and couches. Aint no one getting hurt by it and even the cops go out there to practice. Theyll wave at u
New subscriber here. Just purchased the shockwave with the Crimson Trace laser saddle. Only fired it once so far. Beat my hand up pretty good. Can’t wait to try these techniques! Thank you!
Awesome video! I just purchased one and went thru your shooting positions . Great for home defense if you can access it guickly . I still keep pistol in fingerprint recognition safe on bedside stand. Trying to figure out how to access it but keep away from kids. Would love to have it in locking truck mount.
Been on the fence with the raptor grip. Put one on my PGO 18" Mossy, but didn't push forward with my weak hand. Safety was tearing up the webbing of my thumb. Two years later, the 590 Shockwave comes out, looks cool but... Decided to get one for an upcoming camping trip, for Copperheads and possible black bears. The chance of actually needing to use it is very slim. I chose the Shockwave due to it's compact size, and lighter weight. In the future, I'll probably practice with it more, and may use it as a vehicle gun. Thanks for the demonstration.
A few viable techniques, great video, can't wait to hit the range, with my two new shockwave purchases, but ultimately mine will be wearing the SB Tactical SBA3 brace, with Suaraze Tactical braces adapters.
interesting techniques. i just watched another youtuber with his shockwave, who added a rail, and laser to the top of the receiver, and a 5" x 7" sheet of talon grip material (cut to size for the grip of course) on his shockwave...along with the aguila ammo, the rubber adapter for the shorty shells it all seemed to come together for him...plus a side saddle for extras, and voila!! nifty-ness. now i'm starting to want one... keep your powder dry, and as always: semper fi, carry on!!
Just shot my 590 Shockwave for the first time. Shot twenty 2 3/4 in 12 gauge slugs. Blasted the crap out of the target from 40 feet away. Shooting from the hip. Didn’t drop the gun or cut my thumb from the safety like you see on so many stupid videos about this gun. It’s definitely not useless. I wouldn’t shoot slugs with the gun near my face because of the bad ass recoil.
Great pointers. Does anyone know if it is legal in Pennsylvania to keep a loaded shockwave in your vehicle with a concealed carry permit? I know that the Shockwave has the "Firearm" classification, but not sure as to the legality of it in a vehicle.
Couldn't hear it. Still picked up what he was putting down. People complaining about the audio, figure it out on your own. The guy is giving us free information. Stop paying him back with grief...damn.
This was really helpful, thanks a bunch! However, I do plan on buying one of these but in the new .410 version Mossberg put out. I'm not a big dude that can handle pg shotguns in 12. Does anyone think it's worth it. Or should I stop wimping out and just buy the 20 gauge?
Nick Nazem not much point in a .410.. The 20ga can be effective, but loading options are far more limited. Personally id just add an SB Tactical brace, or use low recoil loadings.
I'll try these stances out with my 20 Gauge next range trip. I found out at with my first try at point shooting it's not so easy as it looks on TV. TBH, I was dumbfounded by how poorly I did.
My tax return just found a use! lol... I will save this vid as my go-to "instructions" when I start breaking the gun in. It may be used as a truck gun, and if I get confident with it, I may use it for home defense. Either way, I'd like to somehow mount a light. Thanks for your time and expertise. The audio wan't that bad at all!
Thank you for sharing. I was thinking of putting a Magpul or an ATI T3 sdjustable stock. After watching your technique, I feel I should give the original grip a try. I just got a shockwave 590s. Would you recommend a crimson trace laser? It may help in shooting in the first position. Please guide.
Very good pointers. Another video on Shockwave stressed: 1 Keep hand in loop 2 When sighting down the barrel and raptor grip is at the highest level, the gun should be as far as possible from face, to prevent kick injuring fave and teeth.
Do you find it shoots high of the bead? I have a clone tac14 I had it out today and I found I would have to aim about 8" low on the target or I wouldn't hit it.
Have been looking for a video like this. Bought a Shockwave and cannot hit anything first time and from the hip. What blew my mind was the darn thing was deafening and fire came out of the barrel. I did not see this when you were shooting. I am also having trouble finding an instructor. I am 5 feet tall and weigh about 102 pounds. I wanted a shotgun for home defense, but the big ones were too large and heavy for me. The store sold me the last Shockwave they had. The ammo he said to use is Windchester PDX1. 410 Defender. It is skinny and 2 1/2 inches, 750 velocity. Will it shoot through a glass door without effecting performance?
I have a Shockwave how's the felt recoil I have yet to shoot it and how do you feel about it as a home defense for a studio apartment as well as a car gun
TTremain Dorsey It should not replace a stocked long gun...it can however be used to augment your arsenal. Its size does lend it to being stored in places normally reserved for handguns. Your individual skill and specific needs should be the basis for its practical application. As for recoil, that is subjective. My advice would be to start with light game loads and work your way up until you figure out what your comfortable with...
I just received the Mossberg 590 12ga Shockwave with Wood Stock/Grips... very nice... Tomorrow is the BIG DAY to test it out... I thought I would begin by using the Aguila 1.75 rounds until I get a feel for it. (Yes, I have the insert to chamber these rounds). Then I can progress back to the norm 2.75 rounds that I presently use in my Mossberg 500 12ga... I really like the feel and look of the Mossberg 590 12ga Shockwave with Wood Stock/Grips, looks very good quality made. Now to find out tomorrow how it performs... :) WISH ME LUCK! :)
@@gerryohara763 I really like it. Also, if you want to use the Aguila 1.75 rounds, do make sure you also order the OPSOL insert, which can be used in the Mosseberg 500 and 590... it makes channeling short shells easily and no jams. When shooting, the only issue I had at first, I shot too high. It took me time to adjust and get use to lowering the barrel before firing. Once I got the hang of that, I was dead on ! The Shockwave with Wood Stock/Grips that I obtained, it is very VERY well built! I like how Thick the Barrel is! Also, like that the pump slide has the leather hand loop, to keep your hand away from the Barrel end. A very nice tool!
@@paxvobiscum1792 Thanks for your reply. Yes I ordered the insert which arrived Tuesday. Unfortunately I haven't been able to test the gun yet. Looking forward to it. The wood stock and grip are awesome! Been stockpiling Aguila 1.75 shells. Hopefully this weekend I'll get out. Will let you know how it goes. Appreciate your insights.
Thinking about purchasing my first gun, been doing lots of research I’ve never owned or fired a gun before and this gun appeals to me as a fun take it out and shoot now and then but also a practical home defense tool. I’ve gotten so many different opinions on it I’m just not sure what to think some say the recoil is too much for a first time shooter some say with practice and patience I should be fine. Seeing it fired here with proper technique it dosnt seem so bad...
Joseph Vazquez I would not classify this as a beginner gun. The simple fact is a stockless gun is harder to shoot/control than one with a stock. I would save this one for after you get the hang of things.
If you're worried about recoil, Aguila offers 3 kinds of "mini" shells. All 1¾ inch, (vs 2¾ or 3 inch) slug, buckshot, and bird shot. Reduced recoil but they still pack a punch. Not cheap though. And you'll need a little OPSol miniclip™ adapter in order for them to cycle properly. Well worth it.
Are the three positions used based on the distance to the target or are they interchangeable. Meaning, can you use the thrust position at close range. Is the position used based upon the distance to the target.
Great video and training! I live in St Joseph, MO and I was just told during a conversation I was having with a fellow worker, that the city of St Joe will be putting a new law on the books. It is to have all citizens that have any firearm only shoot a person below the knee that is breaking into your home. Where do I live, California, New Jersey? I am trying to find confirmation on this at this time.
What ammo are you using? Even girly 1oz sport slugs at 1300fps have way more recoil from what I see here. Holding this gun in front of your sternum is asking for trouble for most people with shorter and weaker hands/arms. For average Joe first position is a good place to start and see how you handle the recoil.
I would recommend low recoil buckshot...since there are plenty of options. I don’t know what a “girly sport slug” is. Perhaps you mean a low recoil slug intended for LE/defense use? If you are too weak to prevent the gun from flying out of your grasp I would recommend not using a 12ga in the first place.
Great introductory review for me because I just bought one of these a few weeks ago, but haven't shot it yet. If you could do this video again with better audio, it would be beneficial.
Uniform Tango 74 I'm picking up my mossberg 590 tomorrow up here in pa, I'm surprised Texas would have you wait for having similar gun laws, I didn't realize you have a channel and will be checking it out now
Why wouldn't it be a viable Self Defense option? I can always hit center mass with mine using 00 Buck or Slugs at 30'. I would add the push/pull technique to create inertia and looks like he was doing it in his demonstration but didn't mention it?
Threw a Gen 3 Breacher's Grip on this bad boy and it still maintains an overall length of over 26 inches... Threw a strobe, laser, spike, heat shield, Magpul grip, sling, and a side saddle as well. I named mine "Bambi". It's hard to hear this video on my phone but I definitely like the posture and stance. I'm wondering if he's using birdshot though.
@@7N6ballistics What exactly does law enforcement use to reduce recoil? I assume stopping power is maintained. Maybe less powder in the shell? I'm not following you but if you could point me in the direction of ammo that will end an intruder within 100 ft and not simply pepper them with BB kisses I would love to hear it. I have an attachment for mini shells but they were scarce at the time so I never experimented with them. Thanks for the reply
@@ih8ustupid1 pretty much all of the major manufacturers have “reduced recoil” offerings targeted for LE/Defense use. Just type in your brand preference with “LE/tactical” and look for “reduced recoil.” They tend to pattern tighter than typical buckshot with either reduced powder loads or pellet count. Its more than sufficient for its intended use.
Slugs? I keep two, at the end of my side saddle, opposite of the rest (so I'm fully aware and have to physically flip the round to be consciously aware of what I'm about to do) just in case things get hardcore. Wish I didn't, but I have neighbors' houses around me. Slugs will penetrate car doors, let alone drywall. I would highly suggest that anyone loading their 12 gauge firearm with slugs do some research on how that might inadvertently affect those around them.
I'm picking one up next week and I appreciate the information. I want this to be a fun gun but I also think it could be a good gun to have beside me in the truck for long trips. I only have one major concern: How do I mount a bayonet?
Finally! Someone is taking me seriously! Thank you, UncleRyan. I decided to try attaching it to the grip like a gunstock war club. I just need a good heat shield to keep from burning my hand.
I just got this gun and thanks for showing the 3 difference techniques. It was really helpful. This gun is not as easy as one may think to get rounds on target without making a trip to the dentist.
Desta Solomon Use low recoiling rounds till you get the hang of things. Low brass 1oz birdshot and Fiocchi buckshot are inexpensive and mild recoiling.. Then practice and figure out what recoil level your comfortable with..even low recoil 12ga packs a wallop on target..
I still say it would have been cool if Mossberg made the Shockwave to accept a bayonet. It wouldn’t have to be a full length bayonet just something in the 4-6” blade length would work.
Never shot this type of gun. Was looking at the Remington tac-14 at the gun shop and the Mossberg came up in my research. Why did the salesman tell me to shoot from the hip?
My Shockwave arrived yesterday. I put a picatiny rail on it and a small green laser on that. At 50 feet I put 6 of my hand load slugs into a single hole not much larger than a hen's egg. Then on flyer to somewhere. lol I need to lower POI by about 5" and to left about 5" as soon as if figure out how the adjustments work.Another 6 shots at 100' and no hits on the target or backer (24" square). Will try buckshot soon.
Jack Gold whatever you want. Start low, work your way up and find what your comfortable with. I like federal pd #4 buck 34 pellet... Its about in the middle recoil wise...
Maybe you could "re-shoot" the video with clearer audio... all fixed, no more grief from the ungrateful... Thanks for the effort and time to make the video... tips I will definitely try out next time I'm at the range.
Monkeybusiness lighten up ❄️. New camera..just how things go. It was addressed in the description. Also, it has been addressed multiple times in the comments. All future videos utilize an external 🎤.
Everytime i get a cool new gun my family members ask me "did u get a permit for that" Yeah its called the constitution "But did you get a permit' Some people legit dont understand guns are legal for citizens. Imagine needing a permit for a fucking pistol or a shotgun? Not even to conceal carry just to own it. Thats fucking insane. ..tax stamps are bad enough. U cant modify the shockwave in almost any way without a stamp
Do you need to pull your pants up, or are your legs really short for your body? I have that problem. I run around all day looking like "Dorf does construction." LOL
7N6 no I was just thinking about buying the Shockwave shotgun I just get a kick out a how people handle the gun in their videos you must be one of these extreme badass tactical guys huh maybe you should buy a microphone not that I was interested in your video anyway I don't need somebody to teach me how to use a shotgun I own a few of them
