I would love to learn about the finer detail on getting strain library going. Growing spawn, cloning. Lots of videos on how to go about it, but nothing on the entire process, when, why and how many transfers, how to spot and recognize contamination on petri dishes and cultures. How long it should take to grow, how to store for optimum growth.

Andrew, thank you ! So I've certainly failed buying spores and grow jars online. Then I sterilized grain and tried with purchased spores. Often I can get them to start but they end up dying off or turning green.

Subscribed! I'm in Southwest Virginia getting ready to start on a serious hobby level. I bought a three foot flow hood from a Virginia Tech auction dirt cheap. I have unused basement space and a large All American canner. Just need to build a fruiting room with plenty of FAE and buy some lab equipment.

First of all, thanks for the great videos, they are helping heaps to start mushroom cultivation for our CSA here in germany. I am wondering - do you use the same room for pinning and growing - and does this imply you use the same conditions for the pinning and fruiting phase? And if so, are these the conditions that your video about the fog creation system states? Keep up the good work!

Andrew! We’ve chatted a few times in the mushroom growing fb page and I just found your channel! Subbed so fast I don’t think RU-vid was ready. I’m looking forward to learning more about all this and getting into the hobby more! Would love to see a video about creating blocks and for creating grain spawn! Hope you can show us that! Ps. If you go to my channel don’t judge my mushroom videos too hard. It was one of my first attempts 🙈😅
@TheMoreYouGrow

Hmmm yeah that would be tricky. What I usually do in my videos is just put wording on the screen something like “dangerous! Attempt to build at your own risk” and say something like “this is my set up, but by no means should you attempt this if you’re not experienced with this kind of work” and maybe say some of the dangers. There’s only so much you can do to keep people from doing something stupid lol

+Mossy Creek Mushrooms hahahaha ok, thanks mate mayb i will switch over to supplemented sawdust in the future, but i believe in that case i will need to switch from pasteurization to sterilization of the substrate, at least thats what i gave heard people doing when going sawdust.

I noticed a clip of your dry substrate components. One is labeled "soy". What soy product is that?
@jordanmercier3616
@jordanmercier3616 5 лет назад
I can't be 100% but I would assume it's soybean hull pellets, for "master's mix."
@davidcolle7335

Thanks for sharing, are you needing to balance the ph of your substrate? and if so with what?
@davidcolle7335
@davidcolle7335 5 лет назад
@@Mossycreekmushroomsofficial Thanks Andrew, been stumbling through the process a bit. Switched over to the masters mix, loved the idea of just two ingredients. Took a whole week to jump off, barely, most grains seemed dead. tested the ph of the three ingredients separately wood-5,soy-6.5,h2o-7.5 which would balance fine, tested a bag of sterilized sub and was off the chart( below 4.5 on my test strip) confusing. I run a 85 gl atmospheric set at 205 and it takes 26 hrs to get to temp, do you think fermentation could be at play with such a long ramp time

Definitely appreciate your perspective and your time, as I know it gets consumed quickly. Secondly, your mushrooms are beautiful which is a reflection of time spent perceiving and tweaking. After a year in I realize how unique the parameters are for each grow given the variability of infrastructure, it's a bit of a dance really. Failure is the hardest part of success. I look forward to what you share next and for what it's worth, i'm lovin the mushroom ears! Peace @@Mossycreekmushroomsofficial

Hericium abietis? I wonder why h. Abietis isn't grown indoors, I prefer it to erinieceus, could be a huge yield, and where I live there is lots more Doug fir waste than hardwood. Hmmmmmm. I once made hot wings from abietis. They were great

I really can't come to grips with using 5 pounds of eatable grain to make 3 pounds of eatable mushrooms. Seems wasteful.
@andreashofer5494
@andreashofer5494 4 года назад
grains are only about 2-15% of the substrate. rest is water and hardwood pellets.
