I like braid to floro. I find braid much more manageable on my spinning outfits plus it lasts so much longer. I use a simple Albright knot to join mainline to leader that I learned while fishing saltwater in Florida. That knot is small, low profile, and incredibly strong and I never have a problem with breaking off. In addition I think I get more bites simply by virtue of not having to mess with my line blowing up with tangles and twists. I feel like it's the best option for the weekend guy for certain.

Braid to leader all day every day

Absolutely. Straight fluro is a nightmare. Loops and twist and tangles. I'd rather go back to XL mono than straight fluro. I've actually been using straight braid unless the water is crystal clear. 10 pound 832 in the dark green color isn't too visible. It's the size of 2 pound mono. Sure it's solid but it's very small. I use that and braid to leader and both work very well. The great thing about braid is how sensitive it is. Pair it with a good rod and man you can feel everything.

The braid floro is a necessity for me as a weekend angler because if I spool up with straight floro that line is all coiled up by about the 4th trip

For sure👍 I may not pull a spinning rod out for several months. On spinning reels I use braid with about 30 feet of FC spooled on. Works well.

Like the others have said, I like braid to fluorocarbon on my spinning and bait casting rods because I don't have the change the line out often. Also, I feel like it is more sensitive than regular fishing line since there is no stretch in the line. Therefore you are going to feel more bites. I fish from kayak with primarily budget rods. So I think braid gives me an edge for those reasons. I know a guy who is one of the best fishermen in my local club who has had braid on his reels for so long the braid has turned white and he still catches a ton fish.

I only use braid to fluorocarbon on spinning reels because the explosions you get with straight fluorocarbon is a nightmare. I haven’t tried Tatsu so I don’t know if it solves that but I don’t see it making that big of a difference. Not because it’s the trend but more of a necessity. And I can’t drop down to super light line because I’m in Texas

Randy, the main reason to use braid to flouro on spinning combos is cost. Flouro is bad about balling up and ruining the spool. When braid balls up, most times it can be fixed without ruining it. Also the braid lasts much longer and doesn’t have to be to be spoiled as often. Some of us can’t afford the difference

Straight mono/fluoro is impossible to use after a day or two because of line twist. Good braid/unifilament superline doesn't have that problem.

I’m sure it’s just me doing something wrong, but I cannot use straight fluro on any reel spinning or casting. Tried it a few times and every time the line blew up and pissed me off to lose all that line. I’m trying to get by at below poverty level income, and braid to leader or even straight braid works best for me. How many bites am I missing? I’ve no idea. Braid rarely blows up or even backlashes. And because of my bank only situation, I’ve got to make the longest throws I can. Nothing finesse about how I must fish here. Brackish Florida inland canal water like I’m fishing have a huge variety of fish, but most here are prey species. I probably spend more time bobber fishing and catching huge Mullet and Tilapia when I’m not dealing with herons, crabs, or turtles. I keep offering to pay a reasonable price for a pro to come here just to get a lesson and see if that pro will have better luck. I’ve got a guest room to stay in and meals are on me. Just show up with your gear and we can fish day or night or even 24 hours straight. I’d love to learn other than watching RU-vid but I’m disabled so I can’t go anywhere except where I am in my backyard. I’ll not expect you to accept. You have family and a life too busy. If you read this, recommend someone to come to New Port Richey and Harbor View Manor where I live. I’m on the north side which makes a huge different than being on the south side. I’m always willing to negotiate terms and conditions, etc. My LMB PB is 6.64lbs. And I doubt there are double digit bass here. I’d be thrilled to even try for saltwater fish like Snook or Redfish? I sure wished I had learned about all these thing when I was younger and had money to spare. I edited only my spelling errors. I’m a grammar nazi because I was taught and learned proper spelling and grammar. BTW…thanks for not saying the non-word ‘casted’ since the word cast is both present and past tense.

Braid to leader is not a trend. Braid spools better, casts better and is easier to manage. All my rods have braid to leader. If you can't tie a connection not, that's your problem. I've also seen pros say that after a day of hard fishing the floro is completely worn out and has to be replaced, that gets expensive. I think that the only one wearing 80's girl jeans is you.

A shallow running crankbait on 6lb line is hard to beat for action and success. I choose line on cost. I buy two bps jumbo spoils of 10 lb clear blue, 1 of 6 and 1 of 12 and that carries me through a season. 8 lb and braid are bought as needed. I am glad you prefaced topwater with mono. So many people think braid is the best but it will over work your topwater.

I like braid to flouro because with the braid on the reel, I dont get tangles and line twist doesnt matter, it has no memory. fluoro has terrible memory, worse than mono i think. with straight fluoro, you have to be way more careful of line twist, sometimes you get fluff when the line is new, etc. unless im putting new line on every month or every tournament, i eventually get line twist that turns into tangles on spinning rod, and i simply can not afford to replace line that often....i do it maybe a couple or a few times a year, especially on the setups i use the most. but i have broken off fish on the braid to fluror leader...usually its when i hook a giant and im fumbling around with the drag....ive accidentally set it too high mid fight before, or ive had it too high from the start. i hate braid on baitcasters, i think i have 1 caster with braid, and its like for my frog rod.

Spot on Randy and different Manufacture’s line diameter can run different lbs. test. One has to pay attention. Just FYI I fish Northern Canada in weeds for northern pike and I can not say I have ever lost a fish because of lbs test and I fish 17lb and I have a lot of fish over 40 inch and largest 47 inch. I also believe from watching most people they have to heavy of line on for what they are doing.

Nothing but 4lb Vanish fluorocarbon but I only fish for trout. Have landed many large 25 to 30 inch tigers and browns with it up to 10lbs. Just loosen your drag and take your time. The advantages of a light line far outweigh the disadvantages.

Izorline copolymer! It doesn’t sink or float. It’s strong ass heck, limp with very low memory. Also, it’s not nearly as expensive as most other lines!

I don't understand why light means you have to use a spinning reel. I estimate I have caught over 5000 fish on 8lb line on my baitcaster. In 20 years I think I broke off 3 or 4 fish on light line. I have broken heavy line more one the hookset but that was probably my knot or maybe bad line.

Longer casts, zero line twist and very good sensitivity is like ugly jeans? I don't follow the logic there. I couldn't care less what others use or what's popular, I've used braid on a spinning rod for years and it's always been for those reasons. A couple others would be better hook sets and line visibility to detect bites. If there are people who use braid because it's somehow "cool" then I agree that's silly.

I disagree with you about braid to fluorocarbon on spinning gear so strongly that I would bet my right arm that people will never go back to straight fluorocarbon. You called it a trend and trends end. Braid to fluorocarbon is an evolution. The only constants in the world are death, taxes and CHANGE. You do you. You had to learn the hard way how to manage line with memory on a spinning reel. Young anglers dont have to deal with the nuances of spooling line on perfectly or massive line twists. Throwing line with memory on spinning gear is 5 times more difficult to learn to do than using a baitcaster with mono or fluoro. Why do you think you see so many more anglers using spinning gear now? By the way im 50.

It’s pretentious clickbait that could even turn a beginner away from the channel. Randy has had a tremendous tournament career and has valuable information to share, no doubt. I just think at times he’s grasping at straws with his titles to try and gain views, and I feel like he’s better than that. Clickabait is for the Googans that like to pander to pre-teen boys that don’t know any better. Serious anglers don’t care about that crap, they care about the substance.
