Gotta love dunkey’s sense of humor, I loved when he said “Silksong is coming out this year” hahahah, classic dunkey. We all know it won’t be out until 2025
Repent to Jesus Christ “Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.” Luke 9:23-24 NIV U
Seeing Dunkey positive about future games fills me with hope. It's nice to see him get positive about something and tell us to look forward to what will be these amazing games!
A fair amount of Elden Ring players will be scratching their heads at Armored Core, but I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing. These moments are rare but they're what get us out of the typical AAA release monotony. If the audience is confused about the game but still enjoys it, they might stick around to see what else is in the market. That makes for a fertile ground for experimentation and exploration. Those moments are rare, but they get me excited.
I wasn't sure if I'd be interested in Armored Core VI, but as a huge fan of "funny birds have a sword fight with their beaks ROFL," this video convinced me to check it out. Thanks, Dunk
I’ve often the gameplay in Armored Core exists to test your mech building skills more than anything which sounds hella hype. Especially since the gameplay isn’t bad either.
As a newcomer to the Armored Core series, I am absolutely hyped for 6 this year. I already love the core game mechanics so I hope it's more of that just with a new polish to it.
The thing is, most people have NEVER played AC and they assume that it's like the Souls games. It's NOTHING LIKE the Souls games. People are going to have a shitfit when it's their own fault they made assumptions.
@@RabidDogma Like Sterling has said, people should stop deciding they love a game before they've even played it. There have been so many games where people hype it to hell and back and just assume they're gonna love it, and then get angry when it's not exactly how they imagined it.
@@RabidDogma literally all it takes is a google search to find out that AC is nothing like souls games. I'm sure people are more than smart enough to figure that out.
@@pokimanefartcompilation I'm sure you think that. Reality is a different thing. Also, so you can't run from it in a few years - this MF named himself "Pokimane Fart Compilation." Trying to tell ME about what people think or do.
DUNKEY THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PUBLISHING ANIMAL WELL!! when it was announced at e3 it seemed to go really under the radar. only a few thousand views on the trailer and the subreddit was nearly inactive. for a while it felt like me and my bf were the only ones who were REALLY excited for it. my 3rd most anticipated game of 2023 (behind totk and silksong)
The best thing about dunkey videos is that I walked into this video both expecting a serious video filled with predictions and 5 minutes about Donkey Kong being the best game of 2023.
It was heavily suggested that there would be, but we didn't know just how much Nintendo would focus marketing on the expanded creativity and player freedom.
i'm personally very excited to see the ghost trick remake for the switch. that game is probably in my top 10 games of all time and i'm sad that they never made more
@@glungusgongus I mean I replayed it not too long ago and I didn't run into any game breaking bugs like the ones maybe on release. What's not fixed about the game?
@@gagefen5822 There is still a fuck load. A FUCK LOAD of bugs. It not being game breaking (which some of them still easily cause softlocks so you're already capping) is not a good excuse. I played Elden Ring to 100% completion and ran into maybe 2 bugs. Thats what the standard should be.
The most important thing that Breath of the Wild did, that they need to carry into Tears of the Kingdom, is the "Looks here's your tools, there's the problem, you figure it out" gameplay design. Other games usually expect you to solve problems in specific ways to progress, but BotW only cared if you found a working solution. For example, the shrine with the torches on the rotating cube. You could try to rotate the cube to move the lit torches around the water, or you could just toss down a campfire and light the torches with your arrows.
I'll never forget the time in botw where I couldn't solve an electricity based shrine because I thought I was missing a cube. I ended up dropping a longsword on the floor so that it would touch both wires, and it actually conducted. Stupid yet ingenious solutions being possible are what make the game as great as it is.
I love how you give each game its own little moment and description. Love your editing style Dunkey! I'm looking forward to this year's games and your reviews!
Well, y'know, some people need time to get over the shock of being told to their face that a game dev thinks they're not gonna "get" the game's plot and themes. Endlessly entertaining moment in gaming history, that one.
@@Vulgarth1 that quote was misinterpreted. Kojima did that interview in Italy (i literally work for the people who did the interview, can prove it if needed) and he said, quote: "In NA, a lot of critics and gamers like fps games, and SOME of them saw death stranding as something very unusual. So maybe that's why they didn't give the game high scores". He was specifically talking about critics and never said americans couldn't understand the game. That was a mistranslation from VICE.
This year is insane. Jedi Survivor, Hi Fi Rush, ToTK, Hogwarts Legacy, RE4, Dead Space, Atomic Heart have already released and are bangers. We still have Spiderman 2, Alan Wake 2, Tekken 8, MK 1, Street Fighter 6, Starfield, and FF16 to go. 2023 is the best year in gaming period.
Somehow, also containing some of the worst stuff: ForSpoken Redfall Gollum Bad PC ports (Last os Us Part 1, Jedi survivor, etc) So 2023 is kinda like a Best AND Worst Year at the same time. At least, that's what it feels like to me
SAME! it's part of what inspired me to be an engineer. i just hope they don't dumb down the level of customization and statistics to make the game more "accessible". sitting in the think tank in the garage was what made that game soooo fkn good.
@@GoodMorningHikers in an interview with Miyazaki and Yamamura they said the customization would be like past AC games and there would be "a wide variety of parts" so i'm sure it'll be just as technical as the old games. in fact throughout the entire thing the interviewer kept basically trying to bait them into saying it would be AC but soulsborne and giving them multiple chances to hype it up as a complete reinvention of the game and they just kept saying "nah it's just AC, it's gonna be what you'd expect from AC, there's no souls elements" lol. doesn't seem at all like they're trying to pander to anyone.
@@fullmetalfunk good. i love souls. but that is not what these games are supposed to be. they don't have to reinvent the wheel with AC. as long as the multiplayer elements are there because that's what has always hooked AC players like myself in for the long haul. I mean, I played chromehounds from release all the way till they shut the servers down. just an updated version of that classic style and I'm a happy guy.
This is how insane Dunkey's knowledge of game music is: he puts "Alone In Town" and "Heaven's Night" from Silent Hill 2 in for like 4 seconds each and it works
I bought AC entirely off the cover not knowing anything about it. It's one of my favorite games ever. Then I got the AC2 games and AC3 games. I hope they do the new one right.
@@empatheticrambo4890 Gameplay is basically you play as a mercenary piloting a giant mech (that your customize the hell out of), completing missions for money for various corporations, in a dystopian universe. Humanity is either on its way towards an apocalypse, or coming back from one. They were my introduction to FromSoftware and I’m beyond hyped that it’s coming back.
Well Konami’s doing what Capcom’s doing by remaking one of the greatest survival horror games of all time. I hope Silent Hill 2 Remake comes out this year
I've been a fan of Armored Core since Master of Arena on the PS1. Such a great series of games. It will be interesting to see what From Software does with it now.
I remember playing Armored Core: The Last Raven on Playstation 2. It was pretty fun, but for the life of me I was never able to complete any mission that required me to fight another AC, they were just far too mobile to hit and my boost gage was far too small to dodge the way they did. I did discover a bug tho, whenever I reset my progress, I always kept my money. So I would play the campaign, choosing only missions that did not pit me against another AC until they were the only choices, and reset until I had enough money to buy pretty much every single part, and I swear I had more fun building and customizing my Armored Cores than actually playing the game. And I don't mean that in a bad way.
It is bizarre to hear people constantly just unrepentantly dunking on AC6. Like, people have been shitting on FromSoft for years for making Dark Souls 7 times. Then Fromsoft announces something different people go '"where dark souls :(" EDIT: Not to imply this is what Dunkey is doing but damn. Sucks to be a fan of something for so long and then when you FINALLY get good news after 10+ years of radio silence, the worldwide reaction is either indifference or outright mockery.
@@grooselegacy I have a PC and Steam Deck. I have no issues purchasing the game on Steam and playing there, but a console launch exclusive with no announced plans for players on Xbox or Switch seems like a miss for their first publishing effort. The game looks exciting and I'd love to see it be accessible to as many players as possible.
That's great! It's also mine's as well. I remember waiting in line at my local Target store to get my copy of Breath of the Wild and a Switch console when it first launched. It was one the best days of my life! I even played BotW non-stop during that day. I'm definitely looking forward to Tears of the Kingdom!
That art book leaked made the game seem so much larger and more complex than the trailers have shown so far and it didn't even really spoil anything and honestly didn't even show a lot of things (areas, enemies, story elements).
I’m glad he’s being positive about a lot of these games, because the amount of remakes mentioned in this video is a bit sad. I would love if we could get more new games from AAA companies
Revisiting this while Baldur's Gate 3 is almost the surefire game of the year winner is... just surprises me how few people had it on their radar at all.
Surprised Dunkey has yet to cover Pizza Tower, was an absolute hit that came out of literally nowhere for most people. One of the best indie platformers since Celeste, easily. Hope Dunkey gives it a try.
I'm so burnt out on platformers and fps games. I'm sorry but Pizza Tower does absolutely nothing for me, and I'm old enough to know what animation style it references. In other news, nothing 2d has come close to Hollow Knight since its release (I realize Hollow Knight is a metroidvania).
pizza tower really makes you feel like a balding middle-aged single stereotypical italian small business chef up to his eyeballs in debt who was threatened by a magical pizza demon with a death ray
@@thepancakemann I totally get that man, Pizza Tower isn't a game that's trying to reinvent the recipe, it just cooks it straight, and if you're not big on that original formula, then it won't be that enjoyable of a dish.
'funny birds have a sword fight with their beaks ROFL' and 'Relaxing Space Safari' are two of my favourite videos. There is an artistry behind both of them that really illuminates the thoughtfulness of all of your work and they show you aren't afraid of taking risks and doing whatever you feel like on a site where that is usually considered heresy. I love how open for interpretation they are, I always thought the former was a reference to the plot and story structure of Death Stranding. Thanks for everything you do Dunkey.
Dunkey I really enjoy the videos you make, even the one with the trains. There was something so relaxing and calming about that video, kinda like watching a Bob Ross episode. I really liked the one about the car commercial, really funny haha. I hope you keep making the type of videos you enjoy putting together, regardless of all the opinions out there. Also, I'm one of those crazy people who is excited to play the new silly robot game, hopefully it's good! And Pepper Grinder too!
Bro! Your videos have millions of views. Take the time to put in titles. It took me way too long to find Animal Well on Steam. I kept looking for Animal War and Animal Wall. But I'll still give u an upvote bc u are the first video I've found to mention upcoming Earthblade. Celeste had amazing physics. Challenging but fair. I had no idea the Celeste team was making a new game. Can't wait.
I'm excited for a lot of the games listed in this video, but if I could add one to Dunkey's list, it'd be Alien Hominid Invasion. I played two of the demos for this game in 2020 and 2021, and it's looking more and more like AH:I could be the Behemoth's most immediate, gameplay-centric, mechnically diverse game yet, and it still has so much of the unique humor and expressive artwork that makes their games so memorable. Can't wait to play it.
Mortal Kombat 12 was also confirmed for this year! This is NetherRealm's longest gap between games in a long time so I'm curious and excited to see what Boon and company have been cooking up.
I swear for some inexplicable reason every person who plays Hollow Knight is required by some universal force to also play Celeste, and vice versa. I'm convinced the venn diagram or Hollow Knight fans and Celeste fans is just a circle.
Hades 2 is the first time I've gotten exited about a new game since 2015. Hopefully they keep the God mode, it's such a brilliant way to change difficulty and keep players motivated that everyone should take note.
I turned god mode on (cuz I was getting extremely bored of repeating levels) and I still didn’t finish the game. It’s so grindy and tedious and repetitive (and the last level is just a gimmick level), and the weapons don’t help to remedy that at all. But I respect your opinion about the game. My most hyped game this year is Spider-Man 2
Really all I want from tears of the kingdom is the same feeling I had playing botw, “I don’t know what I want to do or where to go but I sure as hell am not doing the main story for a long time”
Man Dunkey, I’m always waiting for your anticipated games of the year video because none of these companies seem to want to sell me their product themselves. I had no idea half of these games were coming out this year
Dunkey videos are the gold standard. So many good games I’ve played on his recommendations. I know that I’ll play at least 5 games in this vid. Always comes back to knowing what games your reviewer enjoys and responds to.
The best feeling in the world is saying to yourself "Dunkey hasn’t posted in a while" just to open up youtube to see him first on my recommend. Brings a tear to my eye and a wet spot in my pants.
I cannot wait for Armoured Core 6! Really hoping FromSoftware knock it out the park. I'm tempted to pick up a fighting controller pad with all the new fighting games coming out!
get a stick. hitbboxes are unintuitive, if youre going from pad to something else you are gonna have a lot of frustration with a hitbox. yes, you can cheese and hold back and forward at the same time but thats about it.
@@thepjup4507 It's not about holding back and forwards (that's rarely useful) it's about your inputs being as clean as they can possibly be. It's only unintuitive if you've never used a keyboard's arrow keys before.
Hi Dunkey! Please make another video for Mario day. I really enjoyed the one you made last year. I love all of your videos, but I miss seeing more videos of you just having fun playing games. Keep up the great work!
3:40 Big ups for using 3 AM from city folk as background music. That’s gotta be one of the best songs ever released in a Nintendo game and I’ll die on that hill
So many exciting games coming out this year. Happy to be here for all of them! Armored Core is probably my most anticipated, personally. Feel like it'll be different from anything else getting made today.
@@greenbitch6432 I don't think he was talking about how varied their "soulslike" titles are but the fact they have a certain feeling modern AAA games (that I've played at least) lack. While the combat is similar in all of these games besides Sekiro, many things were changed, added or got improved. I've recently played some DS1 and the combat feels very different from ER, try it yourself. And ER was supposed to be open world DS anyways. Fans love it, there's close to 0 competition for now and between DS3 and ER there was a pause of 6 years so it's not like they release these type of games very frequently anymore. In conclusion, when it comes to "soulslikes" I don't think they really need to fundamentally change their formula unless they want to appeal to a new audience while risking alienating it's current one.
Hearing the OST's to Armored Core after just having streamed them all was awesome, the soundtrack to the originals were amazing. I hope 2023 really is the year of great games!
I miss mortal kombat deceptions conquest. That’s an example of a fighting game with a good single player. I still have the game and will probably play it again
This year for gaming was already gonna be pretty crazy with the second ever strand-type game coming out, but now you're telling me the hit company big mode is making the first ever well-type game? Absolutely insane.
