Today we are headed to what might just be the most picturesque village in Turkey!
After our 4 day road trip along the Black Sea Coast, we finally made it to Rize, the heart of the tea producing region in Turkey. The hillsides in this area are all completely covered in tea fields. Not only is it very picturesque but we just happened to be here during the final week of the harvest so of course we had to get in on the action.
We both tried our hand at "helping" with the tea harvest -- we of course were of no real help but it was really cool to see how they collect the tea. They use hedge clippers with a bag attached and trim just the top green leaves which then fall right into the attached bag. Or at least that is how it is supposed to work 😂.
After a couple of nights in Rize, we made our way further into the Highlands. We left our rental car behind and hired a 4x4 to take us up to the small village of Pokut. Pokut is a small charming village located 2,170-meters above sea level.
The weather was not the best, but it cleared enough from time to time for us to get incredible views of the surrounding mountains and the homes that line the plateau of Pokut -- all made from stone and wood, some of which are up to 250 years old.
We really enjoyed our time in this lesser visited region of Turkey but now it's time to start making our way south! We have some really exciting places coming up next! :)

Once again, you have 'opened our eyes' to a place we have never been. I think of Turkey in reference to the Formula 1 race... and little else. What picturesque place. I luv how you try your hand at the local tasks, albeit cooking, baking or cutting green tea.... I had no idea on how that was done, and the beauty of the hedgerows. Santa came to visit us. .and he left us with COAL!.. He did give us a hint why.... and he said... 'Seems like you forgot to send Jess and Myles' a card for the Holidays'... There is no hiding from Santa.. I'm glad you are extending your travels for a while... Checking my globe, you still have a few continents to go, we truly look forward to every one of your videos...

Great video! Bad, the weather was quite the bummer for you. In Rize we say it doesn't rain much here, just two times a week. First time it rains three days long and the second time it takes a bit longer than the first one 😁

Yay so glad you enjoyed the video!! And of course... we stayed at Pokut Orion Boutique Hotel and I can highly recommend! I just booked directly on Whatsapp. As far as the taxi... the guest house actually arranged that for us so I am sure they would be happy to help with this! ☺️☺️

We arranged a taxi through the guesthouse we stay at in Pokut (there and back).. It was around $28 USD each way.

Would you say that it's possible to do a hike up to Pokut?
@ozanbayrak562
@ozanbayrak562 Год назад
The road is 13 km from Çinçiva (along the river) to Pokut. Why not? Or you can follow Pokut-Hazindag-Samistal-Kavrun path, probably takes 2 days to walk 😊
