Former Wow, SWTOR, GW1, GW2, FFXIV player. I've recently installed GW2 again from Steam, starting all over with new character. The game is aesthetically pleasing to the eye and ear and doesn't overwhelm me with battle mechanics that makes one feel obtuse. GW2 and FFXIV are two games out of all of them that please my solo exploration and freedom to try different classes and jobs without feeling compelled to grind otherwise you will fall behind and be an outcast. The communities are non toxic and the game rewards you when helping others. While I really liked my time in FFXIV, I cannot justify the monthly subscription for the available time I have at this stage in my life, so GW2 it is. But wholly recommend GW2 or FFXIV to anybody that is not a High Gear Grognard unless they want to be. I tried to get back into Wow and created a character in MOP, but after 7 or 8 levels just found too grindy and not as fun as I remembered, plus the cartoon graphics no longer appealed. I will probably buy the GW2 Expansions at some point, but base game has plenty to offer for now. Even if one purchases all the expansions, GW2 is economically a winner compared to monthly Wow or FFXIV. Something else to consider in these economic times as well.

GW2 player here, the reasons mentioned in the video and by Asmon is one of the reasons GW2 appeals to me. The only reason I never got into WoW is because it had a subscription system, but I bought GW2 once back in 2012 and I still have it. I can stop playing right now and take a multiyear break, come back and my gear and progression is still relevant. I'll always be at max level and my gear will always be best in slot. Gotta give props to Guild Wars 2's ability to welcome returning players. I went away for a year and just came back. All i need to do is the story quest and catch up on the new elites which are easy to max out. You got maybe a max of a week or two work with only 3 hours at a time tops, probably less if you research it or ask in game. Guild Wars 2 is constructed like this. PvE Megaservers. PvP Megaserver WvW (World Vs World or Realm Vs Realm) is server based. It's pretty much the perfect setup or as close to perfect as it can be, the WvW server populations vary wildly because of the drama and commander followings but it's nice that the populations ebb and flow. For PvP and PvE it's megaservers so picking a server at the start is only for WvW, you can play with anyone in your region with no bullshit.

The biggest offender was the latest expansion felt like a patch update rather than a big expansion it was built up for because it came out near a big anniversary for the game. @Q That's actually an interesting take; as someone who has also played dozens of MMOs and has been playing GW2 since 2012, I'd say combat is one of GW2's strongest aspects. The combat is more fluid than any other MMO I've played, and the build theory crafting is very dee. Since there is no gear progression, there is way more of an emphasis on how your character's build, and the party compositions are much more dynamic.

Played GW2 when it was released on 2012. Got bored after grinding it for 2 years. Hopped on to WoW, FF14, New World then Lost Ark. But sadly, aside from FF14, all of them got repetitive, unnecessarily grindy, too much bots and P2W. Went back to GW2 during the newest expansion and i am hooked once again. The best thing about it is even after my long hiatus, i didn't feel left out. Yes i had to catch up with the story and past expansion items without spending real money. I've been playing Albion for a little while now, and I'm starting to look into different MMO's and need some serious recommendations! I really like the feel of Albion a lot and the crafting system. It's a smidge too grindy for me though, but I really do enjoy it. The open world PVP aspect to it is really intimidating for me though, cause i worked really hard to get my gear and don't want to lose it. It really feels like that meme of "Well, what do we do now?" "Now? Now we can play the game" I'm currently looking into Lost Ark. It's a bit overwhelming right now, but I'm sure the more I play the more I'll understand everything. It just felt like a mobile game, logging on for the first time and getting a bunch of free rewards and prizes for doing literally nothing. I'm really curious about looking into New World. I've heard good things about it, I heard the game has similar aspects to Albion, which is encouraging! But I keep hearing a lot of people give the game a lot of flack for reasons, I do not understand. But on the contrary I've heard a lot of recent positives. "The most recent updates are showing really good improvements!" etc. I hear nothing but good things about Guild Wars 2. But for some reason I feel a bit timid about trying it out. I don't know why, but maybe some insight will help me out. Any and all recommendations for any game will be GREATLY appreciated! Again, I really like Albion and the way it feels and plays. From the crafting, to the community market, to the combat. But the PVP feels a bit predatory and the fact the top guilds in the game control the entire market is really discouraging. Especially the idea that I can't check out other in-game content such as bosses and go to different cities without entering a red zone.

hey pal, i played Albion Online for years when it first came out, before it went F2P Im currently playing Guild Wars 2, It has a core-game FREE to play, so by all means i recommend you to try it out, its a 180º compared to Albion, crafting and gathering in GW2 is almost an after-thought and smoothered out to not make it a "chore", like, you can refine thousands of items in less than a minute. And there's no open-world PVP, there's realm vs realm (World vs World) tho. I personally play GW 2 for its instanced content PvE (Fractals, Raids, strike missions.) and story, which is great. Best part is that you only need to grind if you want to, for like endgame cosmetics, no content is limited by grinding. The biggest negative aspect is that story chapters between expansions, called "living world" are paid content, they recently changed this and new chapters will be forever included inside expansions, but as now, old story chapters are locked behind a paywall and they're key to truly understanding and enjoying the game story mode.

you shouldn’t work really hard to get gear in albion, though. 8.4 shit is for safe hce content or if ur a streamer and want to duck around cause u have unlimited resources. most ppl don’t even go in mists in t8 anymore. obviously outside some avalonian weapons, 10-15 6.1 sets on buy order shouldn’t take even more than 5% of ur silver. no reason to go into bz or roads in anything more, unless ur guild is dropping an hq maybe. join a guild and they’ll even regear you with the expensive shit if you fight with them and actually try. basically, the economy has so many options to stack silver and then going in and pvping and winning is ofc an influx of silver since u get to loot everyone. it’s a win win win situation as you improve, you just have to die quite a bit to learn how to not die and learn to look at ur entire equipment load out as consumables as ur potions are. also ABUSE BLACK MARKET IN CAERLEON FOR FREE MONEY IF UR SCARED UR GONNA GO BROKE. at any time of day, any day, some item on caerleon market directly bought in bulk and sold to black market right outside on bulk is going to net you 1-unlimited depending on ur patience million silver with maybe 45min to an hour of work

SWTOR is a good game, but it's certainly more on the casual side. You can make it more difficult through hard modes (even making the levelling harder via a difficult option) and I am sure they have their own raid system and the like. You can single player the levelling and there are certain Flashpoints (the game's dungeons) that you can do with your story companion and an A.I. It's worth checking out if you're looking for a simpler MMO levelling experience that is more story-centric like a traditional game.

I gave a shot to more than half the mmo's mentionned in this video and honestly, the one i keep coming back to is ESO. I like how skillbase the combat is in this game and with the new expansion, they released a mythic item that makes it easier to get decent DPS without light attack weaving properly (aka animation canceling), which is the feature that is polarizing in this game mentionned in this video. in a previous patch, they also significantly reduced the LA damage so it is not as important as it used to be. Its not a perfect game by any means (in game cosmetic rewards arent that great and the game is missing a few quality of life features + zenimax sometimes makes questionable changes regarding class balancing) but overall, it is the most solo friendly mmo out there, has the best dungeons i have experienced, has some of the most challenging end game content (in a good way) for solo and group players, my favorite gear system, the best gameplay customization out of all these mmo's and the storylines are usually pretty good (not as immersive as skyrim or as good as FF14 but definitely above most MMOs). A lot of people are recomending GW2 in the comments, which is pretty good in its own right, but i would highly recommend eso to people looking for something new, especially if tab targeting combat isnt really your thing

BDO Player here and have been playing for many years. I'd say now is most absolutely the time to jump into the game and get back to grinding. It still has some P2W elements, but since the switch from KaKao games, the game has become A LOT more new player friendly. All the stuff they "forced" you to buy back in the day (pets, maids, silver is not weighted, etc.), you can now easily get for free just by doing Seasons and MQL. Even if you "P2W" by selling fits or melting for crons, it'll still take some time to gear up due to limits on the market. The game is also heavily skill based (of course gear based too). But so long as you're decently geared, you can kill higher GS players with ease if you know your class well enough. But overall, the game is still a HEAVY grind fest getting geared for PVP. If you're not into mob grinding or PVP, then the game isn't for you. BDO still has THE best combat of any action MMO on the market. And being PVP focus is a huge plus in my book.

since everyone comments on guild wars 2, here are my 2 cents: I've played a lot of mmorpgs as a teenager in high school. many bad ftp ones too. flyff, rappelz, metin 2, 4story, allods, cabal. I've always enjoyed the leveling and social aspect of these games more than dungeons or raids. flyff really sucks looking back, but some of my fondest memories are from that game. the other ones where I got pretty far are cabal and allods. allods was amazing. so many beautiful maps to explore, great visuals and music (although I remember listening to "die ärzte" and the sanctuary + simple and clean from kingdom hears on repeat more than listening to the actual game soundtrack xD). But once I reached the end(game), the game was pretty much reduced to farming dungeons and raids, which bored me to death. When gw2 came out I wasn't really interested in it, but since a whole bunch of my friends bought it, so did I. They all quit, while I spent a whole decade putting 8k hours into the game. exploring the world is fun, the gameplay is very fluid, I even learned how to like dungeons and raids. while going to low level maps is in no way optimal, you still get rewards for you level while being downscaled. a lot of the "newer" content comes with huge farmable map wide events that are also mostly pretty engaging to play. there are also the mounts. man, I hated the idea of mounts back when they were first announced, but anet really delivered a unique implementation. but the number 1 factor why I love the game so much is the horizontal progression. once you have the best gear on your character, it stays best in slot (unless the meta changes ofc). the second best gear is also really easy to get. you can leave the game for a year, come back, and your character is still relevant. instead of a mandatory gear threadmill, you can spend your time hunting achievements and completing collections that reward you with new skins. heck, I didn't really need any of those skins, but still completed every single pve achievement just because they gave me something to work towards. I quit 2 years ago after the aformentioned 8k hours. I had achieved everything I wanted and weekly raid full clears and dungeons runs started becoming more of a chore to me because of how often I had already done that content. I had done countless map completions and equipped all my mains with the best gear possible. the only thing I didn't really do much is pvp. idk, it just wasn't my thing. But new players can look towards thousands of hours of fun without a subscription fee.

Plus after a certain point, having multiple maxed characters with maxed gear, there's not much left to do. I wouldn't mind trying dragonflight but I got back into OSRS and so far its been incredible. Played WoW since TBC and quit during WoD.Then I kinda randomly started with World of Tanks, and also SWTOR few years ago. In WoW I was always raiding quite a lot, but TBH once I geared my main, or main + toon that was like primary alt, I often didnt bother to raid anymore till next patch/gear. I always liked solo content in WoW, or doing simple things like solo achievements, while logging few random BGs, in WOTLK Wintergrasp, ... leveling alts just for fun, to experience interesting zones again, or for example during WOTLK, we sometimes made raid for classic and TBC raids, just for fun, to collect old gear when some wanted nice looking older sets. Ofc in WOTLK we did not know there will be transmog in Cata, but because we already farmed old gear like this, it was a nice surprise when we actually got that transmog Now SWTOR. SWTOR is mostly story driven MMO, but also because I dont play it every day, like I used with WoW often, I can say for me personally ammount of group content or just everything is good enough. Sure, there is a problem with lack of new content, but that is because devs team is small, so players must take it into consideration and not compare the game to WoW or something Also, SWTORs story, is something I always wanted in WoW

Regarding EvE Online's player numbers, I'd just like to point out that having multiple accounts logged in at the same time is the norm. Most serious EvE players (and EvE is a VERY serious game) will have a bare minimum of 2-3 going, but double digits is common. The biggest I've seen is some 60-70 accounts going at the same time. Monitoring player count probably has no way to identify unique players, so you can slash that number down to at least a third, probably much more. A more realistic guesstimate of concurrent EvE players (that are actually playing the game themselves) is a couple thousand at most. I'm also continuously puzzled by the fact that when reviewers of MMORPG's talk about games, they rarely fail to at least mention any pay to win aspects, as it is considered a pretty big deal. EvE somehow tends to escape this scrutiny. Well, arguably there's no game, and I mean that quite literally, that's more pay to win that EvE. *Everything* can be bought for RL money in EvE. Everything. I'd say you have to fly your own ship at least, but there's plenty of elements where not even that is true. Rampant botting for starters, which BTW are also accounts that are counted.

@Asmongold TV Regarding BDO upgrade system I wouldn't agree with your explanation of the EQ upgrading system. Recently Pearl Abyss introduced the new mechanic for "casual" players where you can upgrade your accessories (because the system you are reffering to applies only to accessories) through questing and daily missions. It costs a little more silver (in game currency - no premium) but you have 100% guaranty and no value loss. Same goes with normal EQ like weapons and armour wher instead of luck-based enhancing you can Reform the item and after 5th reform you can convert the item into the BiS maxed armour/weapon. Therefore if you are really unlucky person or just dont want to gammble you can go with more (but balanced) upgrading process instead of "smashing two Iphons 8 together to get new Iphon 9" . Same goes the the "P2W" aspect. It is faster to grind for money and then buy (or receive from quests) upgrading materials than buying them from premium currency shop. this option is available for rich lazy kids who want to flex and honestly buying upgrading materials (Crone stones) with premium currency takes whole fun from the game - at least to me and is huge wast of money. I would 100% recommend you to come back to BDO and at lest see the changes bcs if you stopped playing before awakening release you will be SUPPRISED how many mechanics the devs positively changed.

the main problem I have with new world specifically is it's very hard to get into unless you find a group to do a fresh start with you, most of the players are already at the player cap with lower end players already being level 10-20, and even with the restriction where you can't join the faction that currently controls most of the server the majority of servers are absolutely dominated by one faction as in the most even split I've seen in new world was 80% marauders, and 10% each for the other two. Guild wars 2 is by far the best free to start mmo I have ever played but it's not one of those games I can sit and grind for hours, it's more of pick it up for an hour or 2 then come back to it in like a week. my favorite mmo is by far ffxiv but it's wayyyyyyyy too expensive for me to keep up on. The info on Black Desert is wrong. It's so easy to gear up now, that Choice, an NA player/steamer, started a 110-day 700 gear score challenge and on the 2nd or 3rd week of the said challenge found it so easy that he might complete the 700 gs challenge in 60 days only. Granted he grinds like 7hrs/day on average (7*60 = 420 hours), but if he completes this challenge, then it's pretty safe to say, that all those people saying BDO is hard just sucks at the game. You don't have to enhance to have a gear in BDO, pretty much everything is purchasable in the central market. So just grind and sell all the enhancing stuff, if you enhanced and you fail, then it's your fault, you could've bought but chose to gamble instead (2000 hrs of grind is a major lie unless all you do is gamble all your stuff away when you could've just bought everything). And the bank balance statement is also a lie, to play BDO you don't need to spend a lot of money. I will not make myself an example cause I love RP so buy all the costumes and stuff, however, if your objective is just to play the game, PVE and PVP then all you need is just buy the game or get it for free when they have promotions, buy a $50 tent(can be less, like $10 or so when on sale plus use the coupons and take advantage of the new account promo pearls on sale) and buy a couple of pets (optional, you can just go through the MQ and get free pets, then PO when there are pearl shop sales and eventually you'll have a full set of t4 or 1 t5 and a couple of t3s). You can also splurge on a fairy, but if you only need a miraculous cheer V skill, then just get another fairy to reroll the skills, no need to buy the orbs. That's it really, you can buy the value pack every month but that's up to you, the Kamasylve and Secret of Old Moon are easy to get from CM). Less than $100 and you can enjoy thousands of hours of gameplay. And if you follow Choice's example, you only need to dedicate 420 hrs (potentially) of game time to grinding and you can enjoy end-game content. You don't even have to reach end game gear to enjoy PVP, there are lots of capped contents in BDO that if you really want to enjoy it, you only need to play. P.S. You can definitely play the game completely free to play, you can craft your own tent, rely on free pets (the game gives some from time to time), use a horse as trash loot stash, and fairy skills are also easier to get now.

good thing about Eve online are that in this game everything are on a single server, wile most other MMOs have alot of different ones. theres allso no other game in the world that can give you the adrenaline rush you get in eve online. ive been in situations where ive been actaully shaking so hard i barely could push the buttons i wanted or think straight. absolutly amazing game so worth checking out if you havent played it before.

Try Vindictus, amazing fight style in 211 classes with most of them using 2 type of weapons which you can always have them in your inventory and play whatever you prefer the most +_+, try it and also join a guild ofc and chose the correct server korean, NA, or EU

Idk if it's just me but I like having separate servers. Sure i definitely get all the advantages of megaservers but I feel like I kinda miss the feeling of community within a server. It's nice seeing the same players & recognizing them rather than having megaservers with channels. I don't mind either but both have their advantages & disadvantages for me.
@jcm2606
@jcm2606 Год назад
You can still have that sense of community with megaservers, especially ones that let you control which instances/shards/channels/whatevers you're playing in. You'll often see 2-3 guilds running specific meta events and world bosses in Guild Wars 2, whether it be FROG with anything Heart of Thorns related or DCAP with the Triple Trouble world boss in the base game.

I brought the GW2 expansion released from last year (also return around this period. I gave up this game around 3months after the first release due to lack of content)and I have not even touch play it yet. I feel very comfortable to leave the game like this and come back someday because my pc is not good enough. I will buy any dlc in the future though even i have not played the last last last expansion yet. This game is so good right now!

I think an MMORPG needs enough population to have high enough player density to be able to reasonably clear the currently relevant content about 2/3rds of the time of day. I think population density is an important factor, because modern MMOs are getting smaller and smaller in group sizes. You only need a few active players to do everything. If they're in a small enough area they will bump into each other and naturally deal with the content. This is where party finders are immensely helpful in boosting the "player density".

You can tell that Asmon hasnt heard anything about BDO in a long time. The gearing has gotten a lot easier, except for the very, very top end ultra rare gear. I mean i got almost full PEN, 2nd highest tier gear in like a month. Personally i had no particular problem with the BDO gear upgrades at any point, but it has become a lot easier and a lot less RNG nowadays. But ofcourse (as it should be) full PEN, top tier gear is extremely hard to get. Especially those pesky accessories that get deleted if you fail.

at 17:55 you said servers suck because they only serve to divide players. As a novice game developer I have to correct you. Servers separate the players because if they didnt, they would lag. Every player loads every world object in the scene so even if its just two people in an empty room, the server has to load four people. Two for each players screen. Add more world objects and more polygons, and you rack up the bandwidth required to play the game at a stable rate. Servers become necessary when the player base exceeds what cannot be achieved on a local host. Some games allow four players to all load in on the host players connection. Meaning three players connect to one, which is risky because that's how you can get your IP leaked. SO servers area good thing. As the internet connections speed up, so does server size.

It looks like I would enjoy New World. Am currently playing OSRS though and I'll probably stick to that atleast until I have achieved the quest cape. The quest system in RuneScape is awesome, the quests are what really unlocks the game for you. If you want to explore the whole map you have to quest and if you want to quest you have to explore the whole map.

@@themaniac8596 I don't think that's why he's not inclined to give it a try. I believe it stems from the fact that he enjoys vertical progression in MMOs and end game with hardcore content and raids. Now yes GW2 does have challenging content like fractals and raids but the gear progression in GW2 is just really lackluster and to have to grind for years to get certain materials just so you can get that 5% items boost in the end is just not as satisfying, as some other alternatives out there.
@TheFilyng
@TheFilyng 9 месяцев назад
@@M0Xi0 There is no situation in GW2 where you have to grind for years to get gear in, where did you get that from? Once you hit lvl 80, full exotic gear (which is extremely easy), you can get full ascended in less than a month by just playing, and you can get ascended gear in MULTIPLE game modes, WvW, PvP, Fractals, crafting... They even gift you ascended gear with achievements. If it actually took you years to get ascended gear I'm sorry, but you were playing the game extremely wrong, or you have played the game for 10 hours, and are blatanly lying. Gear progression in GW2 has been praised for years, no one has ever, genuinely, complained about gear progression as an argument to not play the game.

People keep saying that now's a great time to get back into WoW again... But that's the same as what they say at the start of every expansion. Most expansions start great. The problems start coming with the subsequent patches when there is either no content or there is too much content in the form of daily grinds and systems. I have held off from trying Dragonflight so far and don't plan to change that until at least a couple of content patches in to see if they actually stand by and honour this "new direction". One step in the right direction is not enough. They ened to show a tend and commitment to this direction.
