In this reaction we look at The Exploring Series RU-vid channel and there video titled: "Exploring Norse Mythology: Odin". Odin, the chief deity in Norse mythology, is a complex and enigmatic figure often associated with wisdom, war, poetry, and death. Known as the Allfather, he is depicted as a bearded, one-eyed god who sacrificed an eye at Mímir's well in exchange for unparalleled knowledge. Odin rides the eight-legged horse Sleipnir and wields the legendary spear Gungnir. As the ruler of Asgard, he presides over the grand hall Valhalla, where fallen warriors are taken by Valkyries after battle. Odin's insatiable thirst for knowledge, relentless pursuit of power, and enigmatic nature make him a central and enduring figure in Norse mythology, embodying both the light and dark aspects of divinity.

Some of us still worship the old gods. Also in the beginning tyr or proto-germanic tiwaz was top god and sky father before Wōdanaz or odin came into germanic polytheism. I believe they got what became odin from the gauls or celtic peoples lugus is so similar to odin its crazy and they wouldve been right beside eachother on the rhine in germany so they wouldve came in contact with eachother

It’s interesting in some mystic traditions like Kabbalah the Jewish Letters themselves are said to have mythical power and it’s similar here when Odin discovers the mystery of the runes which are magic infused. There’s evidence that runes were specifically used for spells in some cases

thats cool actually, you can also compare the story of Odin sacrificing himself to himself on the world-tree to gain the "Word" of runic writingwith the concept of Jesus on the cross, however some scholars already suggest this may actually be a direct Christian interpolation into the story (Snorri Sturlusson's Edda which this story is from was written by Snorri in 13th century Iceland). He was Christian and even though his work was collected as an attempt to preserve Norse myth on Iceland, it is difficult to say if this old story written down by a Christian author in probably-mostly-or-entirely-Christian 1200s Iceland would have had Christian influences on it. I guess there are many threads to draw haha!

So since you're wondering what was going on during the time when the stories of the gods going to war and dying were told. Some believe it has to do with the Volcanic winter of 536. A time where several Volcanos erupted and covered the sky in darkness for several years.
