I had a guy call me Racist becuase i wouldn't put an item on clearance for him (not because i didn't want to or didn't like him or anything like that, but because thats literally not my job and im incapable of doing it) Id like to point out that we were both the same skin color, and that meth is a hell of a drug.

Racism can happen no matter the skin tone or ethnicity. It's bizarre that some people can't grasp that concept.

The saying "The customer is always right" isn't about treating the customer like an unquestionable god. It's about supply and demand. People need to remember this and stop allowing entitled customers to run over employees doing their jobs.

My old boss got sued because a guy said he was fired for being black (he was actually fired for disappearing for a week then showing up drunk). The guy somehow convinced a lawyer and got the case all the way to the step in court where they decide if a case has enough merit to make it to real court... where it was immediately thrown out because the guy showed up drunk. It probably would have been thrown out anyway considering the boss getting sued was also black.

I actually might keep that tablet in mind considering my computer doesn't have enough space on it for a drawing program, as it's the family computer. Connecting it to my phone would be amazing

I agree 100% on the customer is allways right thing. I've been yelled at countless times for small insignificant things or verbally harassed/namecalled. Escpecially when the pandemic picked up in March in the U.S. and we started having larger wait times for orders around main meal time hours due to rushes. Or getting yelled at for asking someone, kindly, to put a mask on

Th thing about been nice even to most horrible of customers is to end things faster. If both the customer and the employee start to fight then no one wins, the arguing will continue until something goes wrong for either of the parts. If one of the parts is calm, then is easier to keep control of the situation.

When i worked at mcdonalds a lady in the drivethru accused me of shortchanging her bc "you little latinas always shortchange me". Spoilers, I counted it 3 times bc I'm terrified of doing that! She sped away, not stopping to get her food, and I just said over the coworker line on my headset "she didn't even guess right im alaskan native."

I came off as racist once. This girl was telling a story and she mentioned she was eating lunch and she forgot what she had. I was staring off into space thinking about going to taco bell later and said "was it tacos?". She gave me a look and I was confused for a bit and asked what was wrong. Turns out she was Hispanic and I didn't know that because I never asked. Oops.

As someone who works at retail in a local supermarket I can relate 100% I have got accused of being racist too, also been called a whore, slut, bitch, you name them. And all i can do is smile and apologize for things that are not my fault nor in my control. And during this whole Covid19 situation, one customer got mad at me, because I asked them to keep safe distance. Yes! We have pandemic going one and they got mad at me for doing my best to give them and everyone else a safe shopping time.

All crummy things aside- idk why but it made me so happy seeing eve :) (overall nsr doesn't get enough love :')

My old friend kept making comments about my skin color (I’m from Africa) and how I was so basic because “I’m a black girl with dreadlocks” according to him and when I called it out he said “girl I can’t be racist, I’m brown 😂” so I blocked him . Racism sucks and the people that are racist suck even more. Some people even think racism is cool. Like wtf? I’m sorry you had to deal with that.

someone called my lead racist because they asked them to move out of a rental area they didn't pay for. I work at an amusement park, and I was working as a server in the waterpark portion. there are these easy up things in a sandy area available for rent for the entire day, they can be reserved online and in person and we usually sell out quickly and then get angry customers the whole damn day trying to encroach on the area. these people in particular had moved the lounge chairs from the overhang that you can use for free into the premium area and when asked to leave, took like 20 minutes to do so, complained to me as I was carrying quite a large serving plate of food, and then complained to guest relations about the "racist staff"..

I still believe "customer is always right" is still useful and should usually be the course of action... BUT there should be some amendments to it for extreme cases... like this one for example. Although, at the end of the day, following that rule allows you to come out of a situation like this one looking like an angel. So it's not all bad. Think of the rule as simply a different way to score a win over terrible people. Any viral video with a crazy customer and a poor worker abiding by "customer is always right" has the worker coming out looking amazing. Sucks during the encounter, but worth it in the end.

What really sucks is that to my understanding, although Henry's behavior isn't to ge excused just for being a minority. I feel like as someone who has dove into the truama other ethnicities and races face in the US. Mostly because Im a white looking Hispanic and I've never experienced anything like that and I wanted to not end up like those who choose to ignore others expeariences just because i never went through it or don't think it happens often. To my perception of these situations, people like Henry have gone through so much shit from honestly the entire world (cmon if you're Hispanic or Asian we can't deny how absolutely horrid our families are to people like henry) It almost gives them a victim mentality that everyone is against them, therefore they will be against everyone too and accuse people who they disagree with, to be racially motivated malicious people. Because once you start shitting on other minorities I think it's very clear how bad things are getting. The pain people like henry go through is not to be compared but I don't think we should turn a blind eye as to why he would act like this. What's even worse is that people with henrys attitude might never change because of how common discrimination against darker skinned people still is which gives him fuel to be a total ass to everyone and when someone actually lashes out for actual racist reasons, he will use that as another thing to be pissed at everyone about. Like you said these people are not to be sympathized with, especially when you're another minority because it's very easy to fall into the same sucky way of thinking. But I don't think it's wrong to acknowladge and look into how even another minority could be such a shit fuck of a person. And guys don't try to be fixers, when someone is being racist they're being racist and we shouldn't tolerate it.

Nevertheless, understanding where the anger originates from does paint the situation in a sympathetic light. The course of action(s) wasn't right, but you can at least understand Henry's P.O.V.

I hate people who accuse you of being "____phobic" or "racist" for the dumbest shit possible. Unless someone is being openly biased against someone, it's prejudice. But when you fight someone for being an idiot, plain-out, or just being a piece of work; and they call you "racist" but then they storm off calling you a slur? That's beyond hypocritical.

totally feel you there, had the same thing happen to a coworker and manager of mine while we were both on shift at the restaurant we worked at. It was a really busy day during the time that covid was allowing people to still eat at outside tables. we had a group of 6 that wanted to get good seating and were willing to wait, so we said that if they wanted to wait an hour for the fire pit, we would hold it for them. Another group comes in just when one of our only 6 spots open up that is on our porch, but doesn't have an 'amazing' view. We offer that seat to them and they accept. about 15 mins into their seating they see another table open up that has a slightly better view and asked to be seated there. We grab the manager and the servers for the tables and after a little talking we all agree and begin moving them over. when this was happening the firepit opened up and the other 6 group that was waiting were ushered over. The family that we were currently moving flipped out and said because they were Asian and the other group was white, we were giving the other group preferential seating. we explained that it was first come first serve and that they waited for that table. On top of it, most of our staff is Latino, probably 75% . This fucking pissed me off so much. Not only that but the mother of the group started attempting to guilt-trip the staff for the firepit.
