The best female tennis players in history according to weeks as Number 1 in the WTA Ranking. How many weeks as the leader of the WTA Tour women's tennis ranking did Steffi Graf, Monica Seles, Chris Evert, Serena Williams, Martina Hingis, Ashleigh Barty, Justine Henin and Iga Swiatek spend?
The WTA Ranking is a system that ranks professional tennis players based on their performance in tournaments over a rolling 52-week period. Since its inception in 1975, the WTA Ranking has been used to determine the best players in women's tennis and to track their progress over time. One of the most prestigious achievements in women's tennis is to be ranked as the world number one player, a feat that only a select few have achieved. In this video, we will take a look at the tennis players who have been the most weeks leader of the WTA Ranking.
Best female tennis players of all time:
1. Steffi Graf - 377 weeks
Steffi Graf is widely considered as one of the greatest tennis players of all time. During her career, she won 22 Grand Slam singles titles and spent a record 377 weeks as the world number one player. Graf first became the world number one in 1987 and held the top spot for a total of 186 consecutive weeks, which is also a record. She regained the top spot several times throughout her career, and her last stint as the world number one was in 1997.
2. Martina Navratilova - 332 weeks
Martina Navratilova is a tennis legend who won a total of 18 Grand Slam titles during her career. She spent a total of 332 weeks as the world number one player, which is the second-highest total in history. Navratilova first became the world number one in 1978 and held the top spot for a total of 156 consecutive weeks. She regained the top spot several times throughout her career, and her last stint as the world number one was in 1990.
3. Serena Williams - 319 weeks
Serena Williams is another legendary tennis player who has dominated the women's game for many years. She has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles and has spent a total of 319 weeks as the world number one player. Williams first became the world number one in 2002 and has held the top spot for a total of eight different stints throughout her career. Her most recent reign as the world number one was in 2017.
4. Chris Evert - 260 weeks
Chris Evert is a former professional tennis player who won a total of 18 Grand Slam singles titles during her career. She spent a total of 260 weeks as the world number one player, which is the fourth-highest total in history. Evert first became the world number one in 1975 and held the top spot for a total of 113 consecutive weeks. She regained the top spot several times throughout her career, and her last stint as the world number one was in 1985.
5. Martina Hingis - 209 weeks
Martina Hingis is a retired Swiss tennis player who won a total of 5 Grand Slam singles titles during her career. She spent a total of 209 weeks as the world number one player, which is the fifth-highest total in history. Hingis first became the world number one in 1997 and held the top spot for a total of 80 consecutive weeks. She regained the top spot several times throughout her career, and her last stint as the world number one was in 2001.
Who can break these legendary records? Will it be Iga Swiatek, who has been WTA Number 1 continuously for 54 weeks?

Steffi IS the GOAT ! The last person to win THE grand slam and the only person to win each of the four majors at least 4 times. Also won about one and a half times as many total tournaments as Serena Williams in a shorter time frame as well !

Seles never had a winning record against Graf, Seles lost both matches they played in '91, one of Steffis worst years, and the only blowout grand slam final between the 2 was Sales losing Wimbledon 6-2 6-1. She also had a lot of personal demons that kept her out longer than the physical injury. She's a lovely person, but you all make her out too be a god that she wasn't.

By 1992 Graf was leading Seles 11-8 in Slams. Take out the stabbing and Seles would have passed Graf by 1994-95.

Evert should be a lot more as rankings didn’t exist when she was dominating. Graf’s are hugely inflated obviously due to Seles stabbing.
@carrerau7138

Steffi‘s #1 weeks are extremely deflated due to the Graf Blackmail Scandal (cost her about 120 weeks), her reconstructive knee surgery in 1997 (cost her another 130 weeks) and her premature career end (cost her about 140 more). A conservative guess would be that under normal circumstances she would have had about 700 weeks as #1 and Seles zero weeks. Sadly crime and injuries are a part of life.

I think Seles would have peaked at age 25-30 as most top players do. Would have cost Serena at least 5 slams. Then again, Steffi was always superior to Seles - even against #1-ranked Seles she had a 5-2 win/loss record.
