Here in Seattle, these guys were hometown hero's... way before Eddie Vedder made an appearance after Andy died. That was one sad dark day.... the day some of the music died... we miss you Andy.
I think mother bone would have been better then pj. Eddies a great singer no doubt however he's such a poser saying he's part native American wearing a fugazi shrit at shows trying to suck up to the punk rock crowd instead of being thanful he was in a great band. I like Andy wood so much better so sad he had to die what could have been!!!!
W o W. It's interesting that there are people (on You Tube nontheless) who were really fans of MLBone in Seattle old enuff to rember, and also who don't care about how cool or uncool it is to have loved them back then!!! Even here in the Bay Area, Andy Wood's death was a Heavy Thing and it seemed to hang around for a while, the depression that is. Honestly, I was still like a hesher-thrash-guy back then, but I found something so great in MLBone that i didn't care how "GLam" or whatever they were considerd by some...MIss You Andy, Miss you Chris....
Le Andrew, Andrew Wood is the reason I sing , haleluya people, mamma, papa give it to me.....yes sir reeee bob Andrew Wood lives forevermore; Olympia here we go!!!!!...;€
PABLO! I first caught you/SGM live at MLB’s 1990 Legends show in Tacoma and had my mind blown by your set. Unfortunately, the crowd wasn’t as hyped for MLB as they’d been for SGM. I’d never heard of you guys before that night, but was so impressed by the rock that I immediately headed to the U-District and hunted down the 3-track cassette demo you had in the shops at the time, and it stayed in my rotation for the rest of the year, right alongside all the rest of the great local music that came out after Andy passed. I was just 20 at the time and couldn’t get into the clubs, but, I’d caught MLB at Bumbershoot the previous summer and decided they were my favourite local band. But, I had to give it some serious reconsideration after that night at Legends. You guys did an incredibly inspiring set that I still think about to this day.
Andy had no idea this would be one of the only documents of MLB, he was just doing his thing thinking it was a building block for things to come. I hate that he didn’t get the recognition he deserved.
I used to dislike the transition from Chloe dancer to crown of thorns because it changes the scene so much. But now that I’m older I’m I just love it. Crown of thorns is a fckn masterpiece.
Gosh he was soo captivating...can't take your eyes off on him can you??? Man what a presence...really regreting being born years after and never getting to experience Mother Love Bone all the rest of the Seattle scene in it's inception...😖 Some of the best music that has ever been released was born outta that scene....🤯 Thank you, THANK YOU for this ❤ This is truly a gem...he's every bit as a character on stage as I have read about🙌🏻
Welcome to The Seattle Music Scene....Thank You for not calling it the G word. Yes. LANDREW had such Stage presence. He was THE SHIT! And as the performance continues He and The Band, jam and Groove but are well rehearsed. I used to run in to Landrew on the streets of Queen Anne during these times! We were neighbors. Enjoy...
@@pamelahinchee8012 hahaha yeah I read Everybody Loves Our Town and I found myself laughing whenever the word "grunge" was brought up in the conversation, it was met with such disdain from everyone 🤣 That book has been soo invaluable to me having introduced soo many other amazing bands from the scene that I had never even heard of before, The Gits I'm in love with and Mother Love Bone was on their way to going to places ❤ Wow how lucky you are to have had that experience with Andy and experience the scene in it's prime, I read he was such a sweetheart. Wish I could have met him 😔 Thanks to that book I have a whole "new" but "old" playlist that features the classics I've always loved of course like Nirvana, Soundgarden , Alice and Pearl Jam but The Screaming Trees, Mudhoney, Babes in Toyland, Tad, Skin Yard and The Butthole Surfers who happen to home from my home town!!! Awesome awesome book man, music is life ✊🏻
@@DreamgirlBlue Hey Man, sounds like you have discovered a great list of Bands. Also, check out Napalm Beach from the Portland scene. I saw them at The Satiracon. ? On the spelling. Enjoy your Musical journey. Butthole Surfers Rock!
Man....I forgot what a great groove they had. Saw some of their first shows at The Central and opening for Jane's and Soundgarden at The Paramount! Now THAT was A SHOW! I was so high on Acid. Backstage, VIP,,,I worked in The Music industry at that time and spent most of the early evening drinking in THE CLOUD ROOM meeting A&R from different labels. AIC wasn't even signed yet. So Lucky I was there for all this! LANDREW was such a good Frontman.
I was at that Janes Addiction show. It was a KISW "Rising Stars" show and it was some ludicrously low cost of like $5 dollars or something like that and yes what a line up it was. JA filmed the Gift in and around that show. Would love to hear and share some more reminiscing about those good ole days as those days in the 80's and early 90's were a time to be had for certain.
@@martinsane I believe you are talking about Soul Kiss. A Jane's video. Yes, that was filmed backstage and some of my stupid coworkers can be seen asking dumb questions. You can actually hear me laughing at the beginning. I was busy helping Mr. Navarro get a cup of coffee. He was pretty messed up. He also handed his leather jacket to me for some reason. I did what he asked and looked after it. As their manager was scooting them out of the room I had a decision to make. I called out to Dave and gave him his coat and he kissed me on the cheek. A couple weeks later I saw a pic of him in Kerrang wearing that jacket. I made the right decision.
Jesus.... I love this but it made me nostalgic and so sad to watch it. We all know the ending to the story. Andrew Wood was fantastic. Apple is a classic rock album. He was so fully 'realized' at that point, his style, his swag, his lyrics.... a real unique talent and a bad ass in his own right. Thank you to whoever posted this, I think he was going to be a one and done with this band, and that's fine, because it was a hell of a one. Would love to have seen what the Stardog would have done in his career...... but we all know the ending to this very short story. RIP Andy... and Kurt... and Layne... and Chris... WTAF happened to that scene??? It beggars belief.
According to one of Xana’s(Andy’s ex fiancé) Instagram post and I could be wrong or confused it was some chick that was well known for being a sketchy odd ball and even dated Jeff ament at one point is the one that sold him the fatal dose
Found her post here’s what it says:”People may say Andy didnt have what it takes to be a huge rock star. All I know is if someone hadn't killed him ( you know who you are, Melinda Delgado ) then he would have had a fighting chance.people need to know the truth. She knows that I know. Lets put it that way. Its Jeff Aments EX”
Love love love MLB and have forever. Isn't it just amazing how polished they were? I mean Shine wont be released until 1989 and Apple in 1990 and here they are playing songs from both in late 1988...
Its not possible to mash the like button hard enough or enough times. But then again this time and space doesn't know about likes. How much better was shit then huh.
This is amazing. Even back in 1988 "Crown of Thorns" was already a polished number. One of the greatest songs to come out of Seattle - which I first heard on the CDs of PJ's 10th anniversary gig at Las Vegas, 2000.
Unreal how tight Crown of Thorns sounded even back in 88. When you think of what was huge in 1988.. this set blew most of it away. The music was amazing but the price in lives was high..
Thank u for this concert..This band had alot of potential..The white horse.. unfortunately, had others plains..RIP Andy and out of the ashes we got pearl jam and Chris Cornell..RIP Chris..We are all human..Rock On!!
@@josecano9210 I'm going with my source, who's actually written a book on Andrew Wood based on extensive research and personal interviews, including with ex-MLB'rs. She's actually heard the show in question, and, if I remember her e-mail correctly, says it was from Portland. Which, would've been 3 May, 1989. I'll see if I still have the e-mail in question, and will let you know if I find that particular passage. But, she's definitely heard it herself.
You have no idea what watching these videos mean to me! I never got a chance to watch them. What a tight and fabulous band! Talented guys. Andrew could sing to me forever! He was a powerful and amazing vocalist and was master of the stage. I will miss him. RIP Andrew.❤
Janis Joplin had that kind of presence . . . demanding your attention and earning your Respect❤ These years will always remain with us . . . as have many before and after. That is the power of rock music, it takes you in and sets you free . . . for all eternity.
Wow, Spotify played Gentle Groove while I was doing work and I stopped everything to figure out who this band was. While I have heard of them, I had never listened to their music. Wow is all I can say. This is straight up great rock ahead of its time. Great vocals, incredible guitar and the whole ensemble. I am impressed and sad to hear about the lead singer.
Makes you wonder what could have been had he not passed... I would've loved to see them drop the "glam" just a little and maybe released something sounding a bit like what ended up being Pearl Jam's first record, by the way, "Alive" was a song originally intended for MLB (originally named Dollar short at the time) After Andy's death Stone kept working on it till it finally ended up as part of "Ten''
I was 14 in 1988 but I remember the sound of Mother Love Bone and the buzz in the air among older friends who realized what we had on our hands here in Seattle. Everyone knew it was something very very special.
I had heard of mother love bone, but where I'm from they were so short lived. All of a sudden it was Pearl Jam. Don't u guys run Eddie down. I don't think he had any fowl play in this scenario. He just happened to make it out alive, along with Jeff, stone, Mike and Matt. I salute all of you, alive or dead!!!
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH FOR POSTING (FILMING THIS TOO?) THIS !!! Burgandy Baby, wichoo blue eyed soul...Andrew Wood was so great in a way he was like Seattle's earlier version of Perry Farrel...sexually nonchalant and inspiring or instigating at the same time, natural Stage Prez, so much talent and personality. There hasn't t been another like him, really. So Bone China, Let the Summer come again dear Mr. Wood. We still miss you ...and Chris, too, but more on Him later... peace
Four days before my tenth birthday but I have been listening to them for the past thirteen years. I'm extremely disappointed that I missed out on the "On Earth As It Is" box set.
I saw MLB on tour opening for Dogs D'Amour at the Channel in Boston wayyy back in the day .. I always wonder what could have been if Andrew didn't pass.. RIP
These years were a mashup of hip hop (basketball gear), sunset strip & the origins of the NW cold weather (long underwear under shorts/old jeans & flannel ) look. NO SHAME. AW loved the glam vibe indeed.
Wish I had been old enough to have caught Mother Love Bone Live. I discovered Andy when I bought the singles soundtrack in summer ‘92. Chloe Dancer was instantly my favorite song and I had to search record shops and early internet to learn about Andrews life and music. Luckily my friend had prodigy. From there I was able to learn about Malfunkshun and record stores in Seattle that I could order from. Clipping articles from magazines. Dude was so free and charming. He was everything I wanted to be. It’s tragic that Andy’s life was cut short before he achieved the success he was destined for. That’s the impact his music had on me. The world lost some killer records when Andy left for Olympus, how much we’ll never know. The future of Rock music died with him. RIP
I was 17 when Singles came out. That is where I discovered Mother Love Bone as well. This was before the internet caught on so I don't think many people outside of Washington knew who Mother Love Bone was. Heck it wasn't until years later that I put the entire thing together and realized that most of Pearl Jam was Mother Love Bone. I know many people hate on Eddie, but I think Andy would have been happy with the direction the band went and that they finally got to play stadium shows.
@@FatValkilmar prodigy was out back then but internet wasn’t anything like it is today. Luckily for me a friend from for school had it. As MLB grew on me I started resenting Vedder more but I think you’re right. Andy would’ve been happy that Stoney and Jeff made it.
What Andrew Wood really needed was a really good ass kicking or 6 months in jail to get his mind right! All that peace and love shit will kill you. You need a touch of anger to keep you in control. Otherwise your screwed. This kid had so much talent and such good looks but inside was to much sadness. My problem is I hate to much but it's kept me alive. I hate cocaine therefore I don't do it. I hate crystal meth therefore I don't do it. I hate extacy therefore I don't do it! Now I have tried all of these substances but I am done with them and I won't take any of them or let anyone come around me that does them.
Great show. Same as Andy (well, he's older by 8 months, but both of us were 66' wankers). Born in Chicago IL, grew up in Fort Worth, TX and love these guys. Thanks for sharing, since I've been going through late age anxiety/depression despite have a good life man. Have thought about it a few times, but never act upon it. God bless and rock on grungers!
As someone who grew up on the seattle produced grunge, I am only now, as a 45 year old coming to the realization of how special Andy was. It's fucking hard, and has made me cry a lot...because I realize. I am a musician. I appreciate it all...but he was not nearly appreciated enough. All the "big" bands got their due, but I think they knew, and as true fans realize in time, that Andy was the architect. I get it now. Man do I get it. His songs hit now, to me, today, more than most of my beloved 90's "grunge" seattle bands. I wish I could have seen what you would have become Andy, as it stands though, in your short time, you left a pretty everlasting legacy! Check out "island of summer" if you haven't. ❤
