When I picked up my 2023 V85TT Adventure, I didn’t want to wait for them to mount the bags so I took them with me and installed them myself. Inside the side pannier bag was a second lock cylinder to match the side bags. All I had to do was pull the lock cylinder out of the top box and install the one from the side pannier. If the dealer installed your boxes for you, you should contact them and have this rectified. They can get you the correct cylinder to match your side boxes and install it. It should be free since they messed this up during install.

Hey Euan!! I did give you a couple of other tumblers with the side panniers so you can key them the same. They are in some bubble wrap, all the bikes come with 5 tumblers so they can be keyed alike. Glad your trip was good, nice to see that you did this video, and thanks for putting our name out there!!(license plate frame)

Bro, you're a natural at filming & narrating these videos. I'd guess your day job is teaching, & if it ain't, it should be. Thanks so much. Even though I don't have this bike or luggage system, I really enjoyed seeing how they work. I guess I just have an inquisitive mind.

I was visiting dealer recently in order to prepare myself to buy this one. There were no pannier boxes at the time. You have just answered my question marks, thanks. Inner liners are available too. An universal key for all the crates could be an advantage, imho. Anyway safe drive and enjoy this magnificent bike!

@@mardizano The Portland dealer decided to close business last year so now I'll need to go to the Seattle area to check them out once I save enough for one. ;( Africa Twin's now have cruise control but they are super tall, top heavy, and cost twice the v85tt. Not really many choices for adventure bikes in the mid sized, around 10k with cruise control, not to meantion with a drive shaft.

I see you have your preload set very low with all that luggage. That is the perfect time to increase the rear preload to compensate for all that the extra weight. Preload is ride height and suspension travel adjust, nothing to do with making it harder or softer. Looks like a fantastic trip out, great to see the rain doesn't put you off.

Hi Euan - I just picked up a new V85TT today and had little idea about how the boxes attached. Thanks much for demonstrating this. It is very helpful. You’d think Moto Guzzi would have keyed all the boxes alike. Oh well.

@MotoGuzzi V85TT - mate don’t worry about the basement dwellers. It’s awesome you did what you did, buying a bike in the States, traveling and recording your journey. End of, they’re just jealous. I was interested and hoping for some follow up vids to your bike. Re something you mentioned about importing a bike to NZ. I’m in Oz and looked in to doing the same but the govt is pretty Nanny State saying you can’t import unless it’s over 25 yrs old or you are importing your personal vehicle and have lived overseas for more than 12 months. So are the rules different in NZ ? Anyways thanks for making the videos. Keep on riding 👍

I am very much appreciating the sensibly paced and articulate delivery Sir. I think I shall sub to see the unfolding destiny of you and this machine. This bike is one that I could certainly contemplate in years to come, so how would you feel about me hitting you with some real technical questions, to which earnest empirical answers would be hoped for? To Motto Guzzi, (and as another commentor has already observed), how about incorporating box handles, for portage to room/tent etc? and, I wasn't sure if tie-down or lashing points were incorporated in the box lids. It is often useful to lash a single light but bulky item on top. I do hope MG will attend to these matters before my time comes. Kind regards.
@onanysundrymule3144
@onanysundrymule3144 4 года назад
Oh, there is another thing (Motto Guzzi), I thought I could see some metal on metal chatter where the hook laps over the rack rails. So Evo 2 boxes might also conceivably have some soft rubber sheet within the hook swage to soften the interface, perhaps. Liking it all though, it must be said.
@mardizano

Hi, I own 3 motorcycles, one of them is a 2016 Motto Guzzi V7II Stone. I almost bought the MG V85. I like its looks and the reliability of a Motto Guzzi Bike. But after test riding one back n 2020 I found the bike too top heavy with a full tank of fuel. Though once under way it handled Beautifully. Anyway I ended up buying a KTM 790 Adventure S in December of 2020 (I paid a total net price of $9,999.00 which included tax and tags). I love my KTM 790 ADV for everything it is and does. IMO it is a an combination of a Adventure/Sport Touring Motorcycle. I put a set of Tourtec Panniers on my KTM. They are a much better design then the Motto Guzzi Panniers in your above YT video. If I had bought the MG I would have gone with the Tourtec Panniers and Top Box. I still have thoughts about the MG V85 all good except for the fact of it being top heavy and a bit over weight for a mid size Adventure Bike. Anyway, congrads on your choice. For every bike is an individual choice of what suits and makes a rider happy, content. My choice was for the KTM 790 ADV. BE Safe and always ride defensively.

Last week I stopped by the Moto Guzzi dealership to see and decide which V85 TT I should buy. Obviously I'll take a 2021 or 2022 with the tubeless tires BUT one of my biggest concerns was the luggage. I like the extras that the Travel model has, such as the taller windshield, heated grips and driving lights. However, I can't stand the Travel's luggage that open from the side instead of having a top lid. Needless to say, the tail box is NOT included Here's why I dislike the Travel's luggage. I have had the factory side cases for my Aprilia Futura and they were lousy. Unlocking and removing was a crappy ordeal and trying to open the side cases especially on the side the bike was leaning on while on a side stand spelled a messy dump of my things. Trying to seal the cases from water, at least on the Aprilia and the Norge had similar cases, was nearly impossible. If the weather seal wasn't 1000% perfect, everything inside would get wet and smelly. The square boxy aluminum cases have a huge advantage when it comes to convenience in opening, loading and sealing from water. A top lid with hinges doesn't require my over 6 feet tall body to be on my knees or trying to prevent half the stuff from falling out every time I need to get something out of the cases. The overlap of the lid over the lip of the box makes the cases waterproof even at high speed riding in the rain. You can add the optional plates on top of the case lids and strap large items from side to side using straps or bungee cords. Excellent idea while camping. I like the aluminum finish on the cases, small scratches can be easily be blended in with a bit of satin finish sheets. Good luck refinishing the Travel's cases. The Adventure cases have more robust mounting brackets and cary more weight, even though not as pretty when the cases are removed. If you drop the bike on a trail with the travel model's cases, the mounting point and cases will get severely damaged. They are clipped by the saddle area but lack the square tubular frame that adds strength. The square aluminum boxes will hold up better. The square boxes look more manly and less sissy. There;'s plenty of room and smooth surface for stickers Yeah !!!

Thanks for your insight. Did your V85TT make it back to New Zealand? How do you like it compared to your V7? I am trading a new V7 in for the V85 because it looks like it will be more comfortable for longer rides and more capable all around. I loved the form of the V7 but a bit too low and not as much function.The ugly duckling look of the V85 has now grown on me and is more like a beautiful swan. You should post some videos of riding on your home island. I would imagine your fans would dig it. Cheers mate.

Uhmm the V7 is a true cafe racer out the box gets uncomfortable after 50kms. I upgraded mine with Ohlin shocks and Andreani fork cartridges and a gel seat with a sheepskin for longer hauls. Now it's sweet for 6-8hr rides. Even with all that the V85TT is better for touring and shitty weather as you can change the traction control and ABS settings through the console pre sets.

@thejudgehasjudged 3 года назад
Definition of "Tranverse" - made at right angles to the long axis of the body. Generally an engine is defined by the crank orientation which is why a Harley is considered Transverse although the V is Longitudinal. The Guzzi is a Longitudinal engine with a Transverse V. Probably best not to get too anal about such things :)
