Arai is great in the sense that they also offer different internal padding sizes, which is extremely helpful when in between sizes. Wish more companies did that, but it's a premium alright.

After your last helmet sizing video, I fealt as if my rf 1200 was too big. I remeasured my head and I fall in at just under the top of the medium scale. I have a size large. It was too big. I sized down to a medium x14. What a difference. It’s a little tight on the cheeks but that will ease after a while. Everything else is perfect. Van, did you see the Jay Leno episode from a few years ago about helmet fit? He had a Shoei rep there going through the very issue that a lot of people start out in an over sized helmet. He shows Jay how to get fit and gets him into a Medium from a Large. Thank you for also addressing this. Fell into that dangerous trap as a first time rider too (year ago).

Great info! I’m looking to buy the HJC RPHA 11 Pro, and I’m moving from a Scorpion EXO R2000 (Due to the 5 year date being up over the winter) and I wore a Medium in the R2000. I tried on a Large in the RPHA 11 Pro, and it felt “comfortable” but not snug/race fit like my R2000. Dealer says the HJC runs small, however I’m thinking of calling BS and going with a Medium. In your guys’ experience would you agree? Thanks again!
@sportbiketrackgear
@sportbiketrackgear 5 лет назад
I disagree with the info given to you by that dealer. I have both the R2000 and the RPHA 11 Pro in a size medium. IMO the overall fit is similar with the RPHA being easier to put on and take off. Go with the medium. - Van

@Sportbike Track Gear I actually ran into a slight issue when I installed Cardo Bluetooth speakers I have a hard time taking the helmut off, is this typically normal or would you suggest just going with the small helmut vs xs. The xs felt snug and doable, but now, with those speakers inside the helmut, my ears feel like they are going to rip off my head when taking the helmut off lol so many variables to consider when it comes to helmut shopping :/

What can you do if the helmet fits great on the head but the cheek pads are too tight? Thanks for all the informative videos!
@sportbiketrackgear
@sportbiketrackgear 3 года назад
Many of the helmets we offer allow for replacing the cheek or top pad with optional sizes to tune the fit to best suit you. If the helmet is too tight in the cheek pad area you would need thinner cheek pads. If the helmet is very new and has not been ridden in much I would suggest riding in it more before ordering thinner cheek pads as they may break in and get you where you need to be. - Van

@tonykartracer8032

To this day I still don't know what head shape I am. I mean, I've tried those old HJC that are round shaped and it seems to fit but there are pressure points right at the temple area when the top of my head reaches the top inner portion of the helmet. Therefor I rather where oval shape helmet where the padding on the side holds my head where it's really tight but there are no pressure points caused by the actual EPS lining inside, letting the cheek pads hold my head and not let the top of my temple make contact with the hard EPS lining up top where there is little foam. Driving me nuts because most helmets I wear will cause my head to explode with migraines....... and I don't know if you've ever felt that migraine feel before but it will literally cause you to feel like you're about to suffer an aneurysm. And I've timed it too, it's always ALWAYS right at the 1 hour mark where you begin to feel the pain. It really sucks because it ruins the whole riding experience and I have to take off running back home just to recover.
@sportbiketrackgear
@sportbiketrackgear 5 лет назад
NOTE: If you choose to do this we assume no responsibility or liability for it. For riders that have a unique head shape and find it almost impossible to avoid pressure points reshaping the EPS may be needed. Remove the liner and use the back side of a spoon with light pressure to gently reshape the EPS in the problem area. Do this in small moves, reinstalling the liner and testing. This is a kind of last resort approach that is done at your own risk. Important to exercise common sense when doing this and not make massive changes to the EPS. Hope this helps if you decide to give it a shot. Van

Making me feel better about my ultra snug helmet 😂 I’m a 59cm rad which is typically a large but a lot of shops said I should go down to medium. So hear I am. Wearing my helmet indoors to break it in and test to see if I get a head ache. Deff pressure on my dad but no hot spots or head aches after an hour. This is one reason I found a safe affordable helmet. If I decide it way too snug. I’m not out too much money. Everyone says I’ll learn more of what I like after riding for awhile. So why buy a helmet with ever feature of the bat? Might as well start with quality, find what I like and then spend the big bucks. 🎉

@sportbiketrackgear

What about how close the chin guard is to your mouth/face? I recently got an AGV and it fits pretty well I think, but the chin guard is way closer than my Icon Airmada was. Is this normal for the premium helmets or should I get *another* new helmet?
@sportbiketrackgear
@sportbiketrackgear 5 лет назад
The helmets are all shaped a little differently. When we do reviews for the new lids I try to cover the distance from the chin bar to my face and compare it to other models. IMO as long as it is not constantly rubbing on your face distracting you then you are good to go. - Van
@seminolekilla
@seminolekilla 5 лет назад
Sportbike Track Gear That makes sense. Another thing I just thought about was the fact that each size of the helmet has its own shell size whereas I think my Icon had the next size up shell, but a smaller head size. I also think I was wearing the AGV helmet rotated a little bit to far to the front. Tilted back there is a bit more room and is a lot less concerning. Thanks for the reply.

After watching this video I think i should get a size XS. I'm exactly 55cm so that puts me at size small just 1 cm above from XS on the Arai size chart. Just got my quantum x and although it is comfortable I noticed it didn't feel to snug or snug enough because of that i'm thinking to myself when I break it in in the long run it'll bobble around my head a bit and interfere with my glasses which was a problem I had riding with my alliance dark size small riding on the highway 80 +.
@sportbiketrackgear
@sportbiketrackgear 3 года назад
It sounds like you need to try on the X-Small for sure to see if that fit will get you where you need to be. Also important to note the Quantum-X is the shape is more round oval. If your head shape is intermediate oval (most common one) the problem could be the shape of the helmet and not the size. - Van

Just got a new agv k3 sv. Measures my head out and got the correct size, putting it on is no problem and fits tight, but comfortable to my head. When taking it off however it aways almost rips my ears off and its a pretty painful process, any tips? Is it too small?

Being a bit tight when putting in on or taking it off is normal. You evaluate the fit by how it feels once you have it on and all strapped up. All of my helmets bite a bit when putting them on and taking them off, totally normal. - Van

I wear a size LG and a size Xl in a shoei x-14.... size LG in with the x-14 is to tight around my head and causes pressure points as well as squeezes my cheeks in making it uncomfortable

You should just try a different helmet then, I tried 5 helmets before I pulled the trigger on one.

In your own opinion and if it happens to be based off of fact even better does having a lot of hair affect the performance of a helmet on your head. For example with minimal hair you'd wear a size medium now with more hair you now where a size large. Will the helmet still do its job in a crash despite the larger size accommodating for the increase in hair growth ?

End of the day I would say big dreads or a massive man bun could present an issue. Beyond that I do not believe it would be a problem. - Van

I just bought a Shoei X Spirit lll (X fourteen) today. I chose S size according to the size chart and I was wearing S on Arai before. But this time it feels like the cheekpads are too tight. And my eyes are'nt centered enough and they are little bit lower. Did I pick a wrong size?
@sportbiketrackgear
@sportbiketrackgear 3 года назад
I find the X-14 to run a little smaller than the Corsair-X helmet from Arai. (not sure if that is the model you have or not) Also important to note the on/off effort of the X-14 is more than you will find with the Arai as they open up the bottom of the shell to make it easier and design the cheek pads to cradle your face. Not really sure what you are referring to with the eye reference but can tell you the X-14 allows you to adjust the interior to raise the brow on the helmet and open the field of vison up a bit if you need to. - Van

i actually think i bought a helmet 1 size too big for first street bike......its a bit loose now after a few rides, and ill get smaller cheek pads and liner but yeah......at higher speeds i can feel helmet moving around and feel it should be a bit more snug which is why i am here....coming from MX as a racer (speeds arent even close to street) i had a european brand that just fit perectly so i just bought from them (Airoh).....have to find that same brand for street now......back to drawing board

We see this all the time. When new a helmet should be tight without having focused hotspots causing pain. As it breaks in it will remain tight but become a bit more comfortable. - Van

I'm surprised you say that Shoei helmets are different for Europe vs North America when the people are similar if you know what I mean. I can understand there being a different shape for asian markets.

This is information from the manufacturers. With the different safety standards it is likely the ECE version has a different shell than the Snell. Easiest way to tell would be weigh the same model and size for each standard and compare. - Van

You should buy the right size helmet. At 57.5 you are medium in most helmets. - Van

@@sportbiketrackgear interesting , I've been looking at guides and everything to try and get the perfect fit. My nearby motorcycle shop has been closed each time I went to try and do some fitting so now I'm stuck trying to figure it out myself. I measured with leather shoe lace and used measurement tape to get 22 1/2 inches .. converted to centimeters and got 57.15 which lead me to look into medium if I'm not mistaken, and my main struggle is my head shape. I cannot determine if it's an Round oval or intermediate oval. I have MSS school coming up soon and I'm really struggling to perfect my shape.

I see it ALL THE TIME also. Sometimes it's so big it's actually VISIBLE to the eye without even doing any of your test. When their nose is half way up the visor opening, you may as well not even wear a helment. That will come off your head so easy in a crash and cause MORE issue that just a bump or cut. It'll break a neck pretty easily. Imo.

Okay, the kid takes a XS and you put him in a M to show how big it is and it was obviously too big. What I want to see is how a size S fits him.
@sportbiketrackgear
@sportbiketrackgear 4 года назад
Still too big for him, he is still wearing an extra small in the Arai Corsair X this season. While it is a little tighter than the medium it is still too big. When a helmet fits too loose the performance and protection are both compromised. - Van
