How to Choose the Right Size Race Suit
www.sportbiketrackgear.com/mo...
One of the most frequent questions we get is "what size race suit should I get." The only real way to know what size race suit you should get is to try it on and see how it feels when you're on your bike. Watch as Van shows you how your suit should look and feel when you receive it from us. Don't be afraid to take pictures or video of what you look like in the suit, so you can see for yourself how it looks. What do you want a suit for? Track riding or street riding? If it's for track riding, go ahead and buy one. It's worth the investment. If it's for street riding, reconsider if you really need one. Suits get very hot and aren't that comfortable to walk around in. Do you really need a race suit for street riding? Look at a separate vest and pants instead that can connect with a zipper.
@aiya1816
@aiya1816 6 лет назад
jonasv19 I have ridden 1 peace suits and 2 peace suits that connect with a zipper on the street, during riding holidays in the summer and on track. I do not see any benefit in a 2 peace suit anymore. If you want the best protection get a perforated 1 peace suit. If its to cold and you want to ride anyways, you can always wear warmer underwear and/or a large hoody over the suit. Want more comfort, get kangaroo. Want even more comfort, get it tailored. If you are willing to sacrifice safety for comfort, get textile. New versions of the suits from all the brands come out frequently and you can usually get a good discount on the "old" version. So look out for that if money plays a big role in your decision process. The improvements are often not substantial.

I ride a gsxr or my R1, I grew up with my dad and bikes always about. The best advice he ever gave me was. " A decent helmet and decent kit is very high for it all. You have one head and one body. You buy cheap shit or second hand and it fails you could be dead!!. Always pay the most you can save, even more than your bike, your bike you can replace, your body and head you can't. The money these cost is nothing compared to your life and what you leave behind" Best advise I have ever had. A friend died after buying a shit and cheap helmet. I'm still here.

I just came across this video, and I must pay you a compliment as you have done a stellar job of demsontrating the fit of a 1 piece. Being a track racer and owning 2 suits myself, (looking to get a new one) you show us everything we really need to watch out for, especially too small a suit. from year to year our bodies change in size so it doesnt hurt to have a couple of suits. I hope you do another video like this for say 2024, perhaps pointing out some new features of different brands, pros and cons. Thank You

Just got myself a shiny new RPHA Helmet and a one piece is definitely next on the list. I'm 100% sure I'll have sizing issues because I am 6'3", 170lbs and I already have a really hard time finding an overall that's not too short shoulder to crotch. That said I like a tighter fit, which is one (of many, quality feel being the biggest) reason I've picked it over the Nexx XR2 for example which was pretty sloppy in XL.
@jymebale5545
@jymebale5545 5 лет назад
I don't blame you at all for the tight fit, I am cold natured and when the weather gets the slightest bit cooler down here in south Tx like it is now I don't own a leather suit and would not wear one but I do put on my leather jacket and will soo need pants too, I would rather sweat a bit than feel coolish at all riding, I have a 2009 BMW 1200RT love it, people love looking at the bike, it's black and light grey, the black is really a dark grey very fine metal flake and it runs like a bat out of hell. Get a tight fitting suit if your headed for the track, you won't be sorry.

This video is great!!! I've been looking to get a 1-piece because I've been in enough crashes to now know that jeans just don't cut it. I haven't had road rash to the point of skin grafs, but enough little bits of impacts to know they're just no good enough at freeway speeds. My problem, however, is I'm over weight for my height. I'm 5'8" @ 225lbs. I've tried on a 1 piece, but I couldn't get it to zip. Some of that was from not wearing an undersuit to get it on. But the big part was my gut. And since the suit sizes don't have correlating measurements on the person to compare with, I don't know what the proper suit size should be. If I can even get into one that's "off the shelf" and not a custom fit. Any ideas???

Textile wears lighter and will protect the rider pretty well in a single crash. Actually funny I got this video on recommendation because while getting another suit is on hold until later in year (my current one is a replica and i lost faith in its crash integrity), i was just thinking about looking at suits. I do like race fit but two factors really stop me from using it; bad left shoulder and my right knee gets rubbed raw something horrible just after hour of wearing so I go for comfort fit (knee gets rubbed but not as bad) which works better for me. I am considering perhaps trying my luck with a kangaroo leather this time.

I'm really a size 44 euro and I ended up getting a size 46 which is just the next size up.. My question is. Generally speaking: is 1 size up going to make a significant difference? I would consider my suit (size 46, to be a comfortable fit vs. Race fit) I suppose that takes me to another question. Is it okay to track a "comfortable fit" suit? Perhaps you wouldn't suggest it but surely there are many people that do it. Thanks! I love what your doing within the sportbike market. Fantastic job!

You will be fine at the track with a suit that has a more comfortable fit. We did not call out the sizes in this video because many of the suits run a little different when compared to one another. - Van

i had a lot of suits over 20 years and i buy them like the one you discribed as too small . if it has no extreme narrow points it will be ok , just stand under the shower with it and wear and ride it dry and it will suit like a second skin the worst is a too big suit , you have a moving suit around you when you go flat out

You kind of showed it when you were putting on your boots. I'm wondering where should I expect the pant leg to end (talking about the cuff) when a suit/leather pants fit correctly? Especially when I am on the bike in a normal riding position. Thanks!
@sportbiketrackgear
@sportbiketrackgear 5 лет назад
Every suit will be a little different and we are all shaped uniquely. As long as the boots overlap with the leg of the suit a reasonable amount you are good to go. What you want to avoid is having the leg too long extending over the ankle, this will make it bulky in the ankle area making it harder to shift etc... - Van

Thanks for your amazing work!!! I need your advice: i'm 180cm tall and weight around 80kg, not really athletic, chest and waist both around 104cm. I use to wear tg 54 EUR but all the leather suit i tried used to hurt my knees in bike position. The stretch over the kmees extended completely and the protections pushes on my knee hurting. If i go for tg 56 the suits became too large. Are there some brands that are designed to accomodate a longer thighbone? Last suit i had is a Spyke Estoril, perfect averywhere except on the knees. Now i would like to buy an RST Tractech EVO 4, do you think i could have the same problem? Any suggestion?!

Great vid. I am due a new suit. I have a larger 1pc so i could fit clothes under and water proofs to use all year. Biggest problem i had was off the bike so debaiting on a 2 piece how will it compair to a 1pc
@sportbiketrackgear
@sportbiketrackgear 5 лет назад
2 Piece suits are a good option for street use, for track use I prefer the 1 piece. With a 2 piece you have a lot of extra material in the midsection of the suit where the pieces overlap that makes them feel bulky and can restrict motion a bit. Also feel the 1 piece is safer because it does not have that connection in the middle. - Van

I have this exact suit in a EU50. (I am a woman) I want the Women's Alpine stars Stella Missile, but lost as to the sizing, if a 46 or 48 womens would be equivalent as nowhere to try here. Any suggestions please 46 or 48?

What do you do if you are 5'7'', normally wear a 48 jacket, and 29" inseam pants? The one piece suit may fit the torso, but the pants would be way too long. (asking for a friend 😉😉

Superb idea to show us the 3 fits and how that matters. For myself looking for my first race suit it really helped although i am still not sure what size to go for. 5’10” 82 kgs, do you think 48 or 50 would be better? Appreciate your reply, thanks!

Nice video, looking into getting myself a 1 piece suit for next season. Pretty big investment, i am only 20 and these suits are slightly peppered in pricing, but i'v decided that i need the safety. Will most types "standard size" back protectors fit inside a leather suit? Also, as a very slim guy, but with pretty broad shoulders, do you think Dainese would be a good choice? I'v read that their fit is pretty "slim"
@sportbiketrackgear
@sportbiketrackgear 5 лет назад
I would take a look at the RS Taichi suits, similar fit the the Dainese with better quality. How the suit fits you will determine which back protector will work best for you. Many of them are similar in size, lots of options. When you are ready to get a suit give us a call and we will work through all of the options with you and get you dialed in. - Brian Van

i am so lost when it come to gearing up .... i want a one piece suit so bad for protection mostly and gaining confidence since i will know im protected well but at the same time i feel its a bit overkill for street riding and spirited driving with friends once in a while i dont mind the one piece thing where if you stop for food....like i can unzip half way and still be good what would you recommend ? do i stick with my alpinestar sp-s jacket and add a pair of like textile pants ,motorcycle jeans etc or going with a suit its the "way to go" for maximum protection ? and what size suit would you recommended if you say that going with a suit is the way to go ...probably in the alpinestars suits 5feet9 ~ 200lbs for info its my second year riding third bike last summer i started on a z650 swap it out end of season for a gsx-s1000 sold it this winter and i currently have a 2018 super duke 1290r ....

Great Video! Some people say that I should go one size up from the size that I am based on the size guide from the site. I’m 5’7 150Lb, chest 95, waist 82, hips 95, arm 58. Base on the size chart I am Eu48. I did try fitting the Eu50 but the elbow protector easily moves around. Should I go 1 size up to Eu50?

I have too big and riding with it bcs I'm short and its hard to find sth good, but its good if its comfortable too for me..I have all the protectors in place because I have developed shoulders, so the one-piece suit pulls on the protectors, the same on my arms, thighs too, legs even enough - they support the shoes a little in place of the protectors, but the leather stays in place because of my thick calves - only the knee is loose. ...the size is too big, you can only see it because the suit is wrinkled when I stand, but I am very comfortable in it and as a one-piece I use it for routes :D

The suit that was too small is a size 52 Euro, proper fit is a 56 Euro and the too big is a 58 Euro. I would rate the GP Tech V2 I have in the 56 Euro as a "Race Fit" for me. Just rode in it last weekend for the first time and it required very little break in with all the stretch panels it offers. - Brian Van
