Do what I do - spend a bunch of time and money trying to DIY it, fail horribly, then buy the off the shelf parts anyway. The best of all worlds.

Getting the shift and clutch setup all direct has to feel pretty sweet. When I raced I kept tension on the shift fork, and just tickled the clutch and throttle. Feel the gear mesh... it became automatic. Can also feel when I was not quite getting it right. An old school Yamaha VMax would be pretty sweet. Probably not the power level you are looking for though.

The insane RPM is the coolest thing about this car and big bike engines like the hayabusa, zx14, goldwing or a 2 liter K20 don't rev out in comparison to a 1000. Great series of videos! Have you considered modifying the the mounting angle of the throttle bodies? That is, space the ITBs outward and angled down towards the crankcase with tubular adapters. This would have the possible benefits of: longer runner length, more room for a larger airbox, and eliminate the hole in the bonnet. I believe the added runner length coupled with a bigger airbox would help engine response off the bottom. Thank you.

I know you're already decided on a new motor and have even acquired it. At the time I never gave it much thought but I ride a Honda ST1300 and after watching your video, it seemed to me that the engine from an ST1300 would be a good candidate for your car. It's a V4 so is lower revving than your preference and honestly makes less power than the engine you chose but I believe it has better low-end torque. Since this engine has been in production for motorcycles since 2003 I expect that they would be plentiful and probably quite affordable.

I thought you would have gone with a Honda Rebel engine. Inline 2 cylinder for plenty of thumping noise and legendary Honda reliability. As for the oil starvation problem, you could make a secondary tall oil cylinder that would get the oil from the pan, push it through a long tube to the top of the oil cylinder and put the pick-up at the bottom of the cylinder. That way you won't have any problem with sloshing in the corners.

You can convert cable clutches to hydraulic. There are kits.

A VFR would have been interesting. Until you announced the winner I was sure it would be the winner.

I was thinking about a VFR1200, but I guess the shaft drive would make it very complicated. There is a video on here about a Honda N600 which has a VFR800fi engine, that is alot of fun!

Yes the sump arrangement is critical to have correct. Many times one may have failed for reasons yet not crystal clear? But it is a fact you'll benefit from a guaranteed installation, and not have to suffer another catastrophe.. potentially! Even in motorcycles, I myself experienced broken engines due to oil starvation. So you bought a sweet setup from somebody. All hail the algorithm. 😂 LoL .

Keep the hydraulic clutch. Use a VW beetle or similar pull slave cylinder. simple brackets(probably)

One thing we did on our FSAE cars back when we used the CBR600RR was to mount the clutch lever on the back of the shifter (closer to the driver). Then to upshift, you pull the clutch lever back (which doesn't engage the clutch, but does moves the shifter back), and to downshift you push the clutch lever forward, which engages the clutch and then shifts down. Just a thought.

Nice simple solution. Light weight also

I still say cbx. I'll build one... If I can find a s600/800. For the music and sequential shift. TBC's, thermostatic oil cooler, accusump, big bore, proper jetting for linear mounting, etc.
