This is figure 8 exercise - one of the most widely used exercises for motorcycle slow speed practice. In this video I tried to not only show good techniques to make a good figure 8, but also to describe why exactly these techniques are what they are)

On Moto Control channel you will find videos about motorcycles, motorcycle riding techniques, tips & tricks and online motorcycle training for beginner and advanced riders!
A little info about me. My name is Andrei Bodrov, originally I'm from Moscow, Russia, and now I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Back in Moscow I was a motorcycle instructor and creator of Moto Control Beginner & Advanced motorcycle rider courses, which quickly became the most popular courses in Moscow (well, at least the advanced one😁). My advanced training course makes emphasis on slow speed riding techniques at first (such as good clutch and throttle control, proper riding posture, proper use of vision, etc.), then proceeds to more advanced techniques (such as aggressive braking, trail braking, maximal lean angle). The course incorporates a lot of exercises from DOSAF slow speed riding (similar to police rodeo like motorcycle training in USA), braking and cornering exercises and motogymkhana style riding. And now, since I actively learn English - I decided to post some useful videos for both your and mine practice!😉

Since everyone writes this, it's necessary, I suppose 🤷, so here we go. Disclaimer: Ride at your own risk, you are responsible for your own safety. Me, Andrey Bodrov and my channel, Moto Control disclaim any liability incurred in connection with the use of riding techniques from this channel. Use common sense, wear full protective gear and ride in a safe and predictable manner!

On day three of my motor cycle course I couldn't do the figure 8, but day 4 I nailed it . I didn't pass the course and I didn't fail it either. I am going back in two weeks and they are gonna help me one on one with my shifting and clutch control, I stalled the bike a few times and with a little more practice and once I get the clutch and shifting down I should be good to go. Really happy with myself for getting to this level especially for someone who has NEVER ridden a bike a day in my life until now. Fun and an awesome experience.

Thank you. One of the best explanations I've seen on how to do a proper figure of 8. I like your explanation of cones being distractions and not a true guide. Greetings from Baguio, the summer capital of the Philippines.

I'm so glad I found your channel. As a new rider, I have been watching a lot of your slow riding, u-turn, figure 8, cone weave exercises. They have given me confidence and inspiration to practice on my bike. You explain in a simple straightforward manner which is so very helpful (I understand your English as well as the humor-- just fine-- BTW !👌). It is so cool to watch the same techniques demonstrated on light low cc bikes as well as the heavy large cc cruiser bagger with the windshield. Keep your videos coming!! Curious what year make and model is the big cruiser. Looks very nice!😍👍

Those are some beautiful riding examples. I failed my UK module 1 off road on the fig 8. But if I had released the clutch the bike would have corrected. At the end of the day it's about practice and relaxing into it.

Great explanation on technique! I love your channel. It has very clear explanation and examples on important practice habits to aid in control. This is one of my favorite drills because it forces you to use the main techniques of friction zone, counter steer, head and eyes as well as wheel placement and transition.

I was doing figure 8 today and kept stepping down, because my eyes were pinned on the cone while turning right. For some reason turning right is always more difficult. As soon as I started looking forward and not at the ground in front of the front wheel, everything was fine!

I find your videos easier to understand and then practice BECAUSE of your English, and your accent. And your humour is fantastic. Do I join on here to find your online courses?

I set up cones for the first time today, and everything was much harder. Most humbling. (I've been practicing daily for two weeks, trying to master my f900XR. Which seems so much bigger than cb500X). Am loving your channel. Others say I need to do full lock for turning. I'm thinking: maybe with two (or six) months daily practice I might get there. I'm really liking your channel!

Noob here. When doing tight turns on my 300cc single - the engine is lugging down when I press the rear brake and being at the brink of stalling doesn't feel safe. How do I control this smoothly? Also any change in forward/backward momentum with only throttle is extremely twitchy and uncomfortable, not like a car at all.

How about dct
@MotoControlEn
@MotoControlEn 2 года назад
I'll try to make video about dct some time, but in short, since there is no clutch, you have to maintain a little throttle (VERY little, just above idle), and accelerate/decelerate with rear brake. It's identical to dragging rear brake on regular bike. Personally I think dct bikes don't made for long slow speed manuvering, because of extensive clutch and rear brake wear. However, I don't 100% sure about how exactly bad is it, because I don't have any DCT bikes in my personal possession. So maybe it's fine)
