Two years later this motor is going strong ru-vid.comUgkxBZWgzfpS2Jj7JqIHyaSZjyVHNUgCKCBf Just uploaded a video of it after 2 years. We use it probably a dozen days each year on our small raft.-original review- We got this motor the other day and tested it out. I don't have anything to compare it to, but it seems good to me. It has all the features advertised - the motor housing is metal. We will see how it performs longer term and I will revise this review if needed. Some initial observations:- Good thrust, moves our boat around really well- It comes with a circuit breaker but no switch - so there's no way to kill the motor other than yanking the connection off the battery. I installed an inline switch.- The mount bracket is plastic and I worry it might break- There are a number of plastic parts that I worry about, but the most important ones are metal or some kind of composite
Please do an up close look on the install of the pull system on the xi3 foot petal. I would like to see what you used and how you hooked up the carabiner under the foot petal release. Thanks!!
Great breakdown video. Would also love to see a very similar video regarding livescope as I see and hear so many opinions and setups from other kayakers and would love to get the perspective from a renowned kayak shop that regularly installs them
Sounds great. Excellent info. What battery box is that? I have an amped outdoors 100ah lithium that I would like to get a box for at some point. Definitely want to upgrade to one of these at some point. Currently using a transom mount 40 lbs thrust
@@andrewdohrmann5981 Sorry I just saw this question. I haven’t had any problems at all. I don’t use the direction setting or course memory settings, but I use anchor lock constantly when fishing. I’ve been in strong gusty winds and pretty strong currents and it holds its place well. I really like that you can move a few feet in any direction while in anchor mode just by touching a direction button. Max speed is around 4.7 mph on my fully loaded 12.5’ Ozark Trails Kayak, so it moves along really nice. Hope this helps! Best wishes! 👍👌✌️
This is an awesome video! Great information for a newbie! Can I buy just the stow and deploy system for my Ascend from you guys? I already have the Xi3 Thanks!
Selling everything as a kit would be really interesting. Also a set up guide on how to rig things up. I had to piece things together from different videos. Having a rigging instructional video that comes with the kit would be baller.
Can you please show how to use the motor guide and set up for the first trip on the water. Perhaps a step by step instructional mounting and deploying the motor.
Would a bow mount motor like this be good for ocean kayaking in 2ft chop. I have a pa 14 and I'm worried the extra weight in the bow will make for a very wet ride? Thoughts?
How well does the GPS work on small rivers whereaps may not be accurate (I've had issues with Lowrance fish finders maps being way off) and areas where cell serviceay be limited?
Hello. I bought a Nucanoe Frontier 12 last summer which came equipped with a Lowrance Hook 7 but no motorized propulsion. I am finally getting around to adding a trolling motor and wonder if y'all could answer a few questions I have about what all I need to get it rigged up. On hand, I have the Xi3 pinpoint along with the quick release bracket, the additional mounting bracket specific to the F12 purchased from Nucanoe, 12V 110ah Lithium battery and battery box. Everything I've researched talks about needing additional wiring and plugs, but if I am storing the battery in the front of the boat by the motor, I don't see why additional wiring or plugs would be necessary as the motor comes with several feet of wiring. In which case, I should have all the gear needed for setup? Does Kayak Fishing Supplies sell the live scope pan optic shaft mount for the stow and deploy system mentioned in the video? And lastly, for future reference when I install navigation lights, can I hook them to either the 12V 110ah lithium battery or 12V 12AH lead acid battery or do I need another battery? Thanks in advance for the additional info. Your video was extremely informative and much appreciated. Tight Lines!
I have the XI3 cable at stock length, I just coil it up and zip tie and it lays on the bow in front of the motor after its plugged in to the receptacle, going to my Power Queen 100ah battery behind my Native titan X seat, didnt want to cut it as might be an issue if I want to resell. Is this not a good practice with the length of that cable?
How do you get the XI3 to not bind up on itself when using spot lock. I’ve calibrated the GPS but it still spins around until the cord binds up on itself.
@@jedediyahaaronyisrael7118 I thought I replied but i dont see it here. Kayak Fishing Supplies cut the shaft and shipped the unit to me, from SD to NY.
@@CurrentJAM Oh okay. I hear the 36” SW will hit the market soon. If it doesn’t I’ll contact KFS so they can cut one for me. Thanks buddy for your responses.
Do you know of anyone who can make a mount for a Riot Mako 12 ?... I'm currently going to have to make a mounting plate to mount my quick release bracket on. Just checking before I start doing the modifications
At ICAST last year, Motorguide showed xi3 kayak saltwater version that they said would come out later that year. Unfortunately this motor has not materialized in the wild to this day. Do you have any info on this saltwater version of the xi3 kayak motor and when we might be able to expect it?
a hobie moves throught the water like a piece of dimensional lumber. i would be shocked that it went faster or as fast as many of the other hulls you listed.
@@brenttorgeson9347 OK thank you very much for responding back to me .Wanted to put one on and might just see if it can be done lol 😆 🤔 😂 It would be a great winter project.
Ik this an old post but you folks looking for the SW version vs FW are simply throwing money away. Put an anode on the shaft, rinse when done, keep the motor painted. You just saved $100 or more.
Love the breakdown, I do believe though that the Stock wire is 6 Gauge and that’s what the Sticker shows that I received on my Xi3 just a few days ago directly from Motorguide/Mercury Marine. It shows that any added wire should be 6 Gauge along with a 50 Amp Breaker. I personally think 8 Gauge would be fine, but I would probably go with what the Factory suggests. Regardless if this your guys info/Content and rigging is and has been Amazing and Extremely helpful So Thank You. I would have loved to get the Xi3 from you guys but the cost at $1399 plus shipping & CA taxes was just too steep for me. I ordered mine from Fishing Online and in a week it was shipped out directly from Motorguide FedEx Two Day and it only cost 💲 me $1199.00 that was everything with shipping & no Taxes. So I couldn’t pass that up. It would have been around $1500-$1600 with taxes/Shipping & Fees. And I’m just on the other side of the State in Northern NV 5 min from Tahoe. I Due Totally get the Fee of So Ca as I grew up 20 min from Lake Castaic, and spent years fishing WonBass Tournaments all over So CA and Northern CA. I left the Region back in 2004 because Taxes / Fees / Gas / and All the Other Regulations was just out of Control. Love the Bodies of Water, Casitas, Cachuma, Castaic, Piru, Pyramid, we’re my Home Lakes. And Fished years and still do from Isabella all the way up too Shasta. Anyways I think what Kerry and you guys are bringing are through the Roof for sure, I just wish the CA Costs / Taxes and shipping wouldn’t be so Crazy. Diego is Awesome spent years at Fisherman’s Landing. Good luck with your Season and with your New P127 and look 👀forward too more content. My years were spent Fishing Tournaments with my Best Childhood friend Aaron that just recently Passed Away from Cancer. We fished down there in the Late 80’s and into the Early 2000’s From our Rangers And I wholly miss the Memories, I just don’t miss the CA Garbage 🗑 and it’s sad what happened to lakes like Castaic and Casitas the Waters are not what they were and the Darn Stripers ruined Castaic, Sad…. Big Thumbs up to you Guys and Your shop. Your Rigging is Through the roof. Blessings & Tight Lines 😎🙏👍
