Great guys. I think the live '74 album is one of the best ever. Can't stop playing it (Anniversary edition). Also reading the book, thoroughly entertaining.
Been a fan since heard them doing Thunderbuck Ram on the sampler called "Bumpers." 1st saw Mott the Hoople at the Caley Cinema in Edinburgh in 1973. Then at 1st reunion in Hammersmith, London and then Newcastle. Also went to the '74 version at The Barrowlands in Glasgow. Superb. Thanks for posting.
Laugh about the Evesham phonebox because Mick, as a kid, apparently used to cycle around the village of Pencombe with an acoustic on his back, and strum it in the phonebox on the village green. I wasn't there in the late 60s, but in the early 70s was a fairly frequent user of the same box. Mick's father ran the post office in nearby Stoke Lacy.
Wow, these guys are old! They look just like me! Saw them in Houston, TX at Hofheinz Pavillon in very early 70s. Met Billy Gibbons, of ZZ Top, at that show. We said Hi to Billy and he turned to talk to us about a new band he started called ZZ Top. Good times!
