Hi Jeff, l work in Shaftesbury one of my first jobs after leaving school a long time ago,not been up Mount pleasant for ages some lovely buildings but that carpark is a eye sore l thought that it was going to be demolished l amazed no one has redeveloped the Irish centre such a shame l have seen meny videos of it Great video and very informative content thanks 👍
Wow, this brings back some good memories. I spent many happy hours exercising in that YMCA. The Shaftesbury Hotel was were my sister had her wedding reception in the early 60s. Can't remember dates but I went to the Irish Centre to hear Irish Music. If I remember correctly the Liverpool Ceili Band were very active around that time. I also have fond memories of the Central Hall Methodist Church, where they used to have a youth club. As always, thanks for posting this and greetings from Montreal.
I love these little tours of our city and surroundings. It gives another perspective and a chance to see things we might otherwise not notice. I also find the pace really relaxing. It is not bludgeoning and bloated, like a lot of other tours, where information is force-fed.
Great update as always Jeff love that part of Liverpool. Jeff bit of useful information you said you weren’t quite sure where the bowling green public house was where William Roscoe was born the site was actually where the Liverpool medical institution now stands on the corner of Hope Street hope that helps. Where you see the horse coming up the street on the picture is hope street.
I might be wrong here but i'm sure 64 was the dental hospital before then, I also remember the Dolls Hospital was located somewhere on Mount Pleasant, close to the Mardi was the auction rooms, a bit further up at the end of the block was a Chinese gambling club, I'm not sure of name of it's new name Was it the 3 steps, a night club before the car park got built? The Mardi was most popular when BB was the dee jay. The centre for inovation was the labs for testing swabs ect for the Old Royal Hospital and the Hospital of tropical medicine and where the cathedral is was the site of the old workhouses and catacombs for the original catheral that was never built. The university took over much of the area including Abercromby.
@@Jeff1photo Further research into the dental hospital, It was number 50 Mount Pleasant then moved to Pembroke Place, I'm pretty certain is was there and was set up for school children to visit by class groups, I remember they used blackout curtains to form cubicles and a wooden chair to sit on, that was the start of the NHS, I think it was a temporary thing
Another question to ask you Jeff was watching your video of brownlow hill one on it you turned on a road looking towards London road you said you can just make out Liverpool answer to housing you said you’d do a video on that one very soon wasn’t sure if you’ve done that one yet. If not I look forward to it when you get the chance to do it. Be very interesting.
