Another great video Jeff.I grew up in Low Wood St Low hill and attended sacred heart church.I was a kid in the late sixties and remember watching the Royal being built. I’ve been living in Australia now for 36 years but still have fond memories of old Liverpool.

Thanks Jeff, nice to see the old police station again, Did you know it was featured in The Boys from The Blackstuff series during the restoration to a workshop for different crafts, My friend rented the full basement for his woodworking and i managed to remove the oak shelves before the work started, I made a few things myself there. You say the new Hospital has 40 less beds and you'll find it's plenty with all the new the technology they have, your only in 6 days for open heart surgery, 5 days if they get you walking early enough. that's if they do heart surgery there, they did in the other and you was in for 2 weeks or more, My mother died in the other one. that was my last time there. Did we pass Norton St in that video, so much has changed?.

Thanks again for the video,Jeff., very nostalgic for someone who now lives in the South East. You mentioned the 5 hospitals that the Royal Liverpool Hospital replaced when it opened. I have family links to three of them. My Mum was born in the Royal Liverpool Infirmary, my brother was born in Sefton General and I had a stay in the Royal Southern Hospital, though was born in Broadgreen Hospial! I think the reason for not replacing these hospitals is purely a cost saving exercise. I agree, however, that a lifespan of only 35 years for such a big hospital seems crazy. I remember it being built and then finished just as I finished Liverpool University in 1978. Keep the videos coming!

I'm a Sefton General kid, you're right it's all about money not health.

Hi Jeff...once again another interesting and informative video. Nice to see my old employer of 28 years the University of Liverpool buildings too. My Grandad (my Mum's dad) was treated back in 87 in the old Royal. Many memories of going to ward 10A to see him 😢 Simon D (retired librarian)

Another great one as well Jeff very interesting. I agree with you Jeff with this so called progress it’s like in Birkenhead the council have started this 12 million regeneration on the town they’ve gone and chopped all the trees down on grange road in the town centre and just left the stumps in they said they will be replaced as part of the progress loads have said why couldn’t they have just left the trees in and planted other ones with them. I agree Jeff they call it progress but is it I don’t think so.

My Uncle, Philip Ninion Smith, born 1929 was executed with Midazolam in the Royal in May 2020. They had to test him 3 times to obtain permission for the desired outcome. I was not allowed to see him.

That's very sad. My mates Dad had the same last month. After a few days in hospital, he wanted his care to be stopped, then suddenly, the next day he's gone.

@@Jeff1photo He was a porter in the Maternity Hospital. He just had a urinary infection at the wrong time. Took 3 corvid tests to get a positive then they isolated and killed him, sorry they made him "comfortable"

Great video but what an ugly cacophony of cheap and nasty new buildings.
