I realise it’s an old clip/vid, but great work, I really enjoy your enthusiasm including making the chisel to prep the log. You’ve really encouraged me to strip down my leg vice, clean it, wire brush it, linseed oil it and remount it. We are only custodians of our blacksmith tools and devices, and hopefully they’ll pass on down to the next generation of enthusiasts. Thanks from OZ down under.
beautiful strap, goes great with that grand ol' stump! i elected to create a slotted "catching plate" beneath the foot of my vise to make any top-down impact spread out over a larger surface area. This was mostly because i'm a bit paranoid of cracking the concrete floor. great job!
Thanks, planning to mount my Grandpas vise soon and this helps. Is the leg supported on the floor also? I thought the post vise works in the way that the post takes all the beating but here looks like the stump is the main support and I like this idea, just let me know if I am wrong or right here please ;)
The leg of the vise hits the floor, but if you leave it a little high you can put a plate of steel under it if you worry about scratching the floor its pretty rough on concrete.
