A quick note - I noticed people saying the right side is higher than the left and that the body and chassis is crooked. It's actually the left side that looks crooked since vehicle orientation is always referenced when sitting in the driver's seat facing forward. What looks crooked is an unfortunate downside to lens distortion from being zoomed out and the camera not sitting perfectly level on the tripod. Oops.

When cutting the body and removing metal - don't forget to leave the metal (or work around it) where the body / VIN number are stamped. Having new numbers stamped on (depending on which country you are in) can cause huge headaches...

I use a self levelling laser to level my jigs. A whole lot quicker and more accurate then using spirit levels(for me anyway). Great build really looking forward to future episodes.
@youtube-handle-are-a-joke

I do the same, but sometimes there is sheet metal in the way so a spirit level and straight edge are also very handy.
@Neishy4AGTE

Wouldnt of thought a laser level would be accurate enough, unless you get get ones that are finer in there accuracy.
@gabeayres541

@@Neishy4AGTE A decent one is definitely accurate enough if its calibrated, my dewalt green laser is accurate to within 0.6mm at 3 meters, just put it in the middle of the jig 👍

Great to see your build video. So much more interesting then the huge amount of (understandable) 'I'm a maker, ask me questions!' live streams. One thing I learnt about bracing a body before working on it is to make sure the original vehicle is a true and square starting point before bracing it. No good bracing a body, cutting out a load of rusty panels and structure, only to find it wasn't a true and square body in the first place. Yeah, learnt that the hard way.

Looks to be very interesting build... certainly from my point of view. As l too intend to do a build. I think your idea of cab reference points is spot on. However, l would have gone a slightly different route.. I would have used dowels on plates. Holes to receive the dowels would have been into the 4 corners of the cab.. Place the tabs on your jig alien the cab....and weld the plates with the vertical dowels... in place. Take off and on the cab when needed.. You must be working to plus or minus 1mm on tolerance.. You do some good videos... Keep it up...👍👍👍 Simon a Brit in Spain 👍

A great information video. The reason I watched it for I watched a lot of race car races and they were talking. They had to send a car back to the shop to put on the jig. Was trying to work out. What a jig is? But now I see there is a flat. Jig a rotary jig and a pull jig. So what type of jig would a race car team use? Cheers

Was half-way expecting an "instructions unclear - got truck stuck in frame jig" bit at the beginning, but great video either way :) Can't wait to see what power train this truck ends up having. I suspect a diesel of some sort... unless it's a turbine... You did say you wanted something unusual.
@MegaBuster777
@MegaBuster777 4 года назад
You got another mighty max? Nice! I know I've wanted to do a head swap (More in depth of a build would actually need to be done) on the one I had, but the coolant neck and the intake manifold for the twincam heads would hit the firewall or face it. I doubt you couldn't fabricate that problem away though if you were to go twincam and turbo

@nut-r6660 3 года назад
I'm attacking a similar project and I am following your series with great excitement. However, I am puzzled how you calculated the height from the top surface of your chassis jig to the centre of the wheel hubs. You mentioned you calculated this from your intended wheel diameter but do you not need to take into account the expected ground clearance? To me it looks like the hubs are set far too high in the fenders? Thanks.

Why not save the left to right floor/seat mount to hold the bottom of the cab? Also, why not create a measure point on the cab instead of the fender? I would think the b pillar would be the best reference.
