It's been a few months since we've moved out here to Saint John, but will we stay forever? The conversations started the other night and we share it in this video. We also check out uptown again! And another cool thing happened :P

The winter can be very nice, just take advantage of when it’s sunny, because you can actually get a tan on especially if there’s snow all around! Skiing, snowshoeing, skating, make the most out of the activities you can do. I am a summer guy (who isn’t) but it’s not like you live at the Arctic circle. Winter isn’t so bad. Google Norilsk, and get some perspective and compare ;)

Summers in Saint John are as beautiful as being in a warm country, take it from someone born and raised in Guatemala, we have been in Canada since 1991 and YSJ has been our home since we moved. This winter is the second hardest; we found that being prepared makes a big difference and finding activities to keep entertained helps a lot!

Hello Tribe! I've been a Rothesay resident for the past 23 years after moving here from Cornwall, Ontario, where I lived for seven years after leaving my hometown of Thompson, Manitoba. I only intended to be here for five years tops but ended up staying long term. Summers here are just amazing (no wonder a key industry is tourism from other parts of Canada and the world for that matter). Friends and family just love to vacation here and we love to show them around. People from Ontario just can't believe how good we have it! Winters are challenging, yes, but the average temperature in the winter here in southern NB is actually higher than Ontario. That said, two things that made winter a zillion times more tolerable for me over the years was the purchase of a good snowblower and having a heated garage built. I think those two things are ESSENTIAL to living in most of Canada, frankly. Anyway, cheers and great to have you in New Brunswick!

I am looking at Belize for a winter bolthole, but l will always keep my house in SJ. I will try to blend a sideline in to the journey too, sailing down the East Coast to the Yucatan, calling in to Cuba on the return to collect 90 gallons of fine Havana Rum to sail back for bottling in SJ. I enjoy the summer temperatures in the old west side of SJ a bit cooler in the summer and it is warmer than the rest of the province in the winter. The best part of living across the harbour from the uptown is the lack of mosquitoes, and other biting insects that live up county i must admit that I enjoy having the cooling feature of having a heat pump. 😊🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖👍👍👍👍👍🙋🏼‍♀️

If you are looking for a fun thing to do, drive to the Renforth Wharf in Rothesay on the Kennebecasis River, near the lighthouse, and check out all the ice fishing shacks. It's like a village on ice! Bring a pull sled for your little girl. Wait a few days after the storm to give time for the snowmobiles to lay tracks again. Very popular spot. Maybe your little girl will get to see a fish :D Beautiful area!

It's been a VERY uncommon Winter! You guys also aren't on the snow belt. Moncton, and the area at the head of the Petitcodiac river, generally gets significantly more snow than the rest of Southern NB. Also, always remember to get your vehicle undercoated each Winter. Vehicles rust more quickly in the Maritimes because of an excess of salt on the roads.

Honestly Tribe, Saint John is the best move I have ever made. I have been fortunate to live in 6 of the Canadian provinces over the span of my 53 years but New Brunswick is everything that I was looking for and more. I live smack dab in the middle of the City of Saint John. I walk everywhere, and where I don't walk I only need to drive 10 minutes to find what I need. My partner Matt and I share a home that I bought three years ago for $139,000. It was built somewhere inn the middle of the 19th century but was gutted and renovated in 1921 for a family that lived there for the next 100 years. At least, until I came along. We are restoring and improving on what the last family maintained which makes us feel a part of a long tradition of remodelling and remaking instead of building new. I could go on and on but I am responding primarily because I wanted you (the Owens Tribe) to know you are not alone. The potential here feels extraordinary. Congratulations for getting through another Winter!

Topic idea: I heard NB is the only province that has double taxation for rental houses. All other provinces already got rid off such high taxation. That's why the price for real estate is so low, nobody invests in rental homes. Any idea on that topics? Local!? thanks

New Brunswick is nice for sure. Ontario is absolutely amazing and beautiful with so much there to see and do. It has opportunity for a fast pace or an opportunity for slow. Whatever your preference.. It's unfortunate that us that love it so much are being chased out by insanely overpriced homes.. once the bubble burst I'm sure lots will be going back if the New Brunswick government doesn't lower their taxes here and start making it more affordable for heat hydro in the homes out here, along with lowering their provincial tax from 15% to 13% like Ontario. The only thing I found out here that was cheaper is the initial cost of the house. Other than that everything is through the roof. :-(. And with a very low minimum wage, highest provincial sales tax, it is very hard to make it out here if if you don't have a step up.

It depends what province you are comparing it to. Utilities, dairy products, and property taxes are much higher than that of BC's for example. Also NB has about double that of ON and BC in regards to provincial income tax.
