Mini movie reviews for: Boy A Shock The Horsemen Haunted Ten Little Indians Tokyo Sonata The Quick And The Dead Prime Suspect Resurrection The Cutter Sorry, Wrong Number
Hi, Neil, among these I've only caught 'Sorry, Wrong Number' and 'Resurrection', both on cable television, with 'Resurrection' watched quite a long time ago now. 'Resurrection' is a special film, often touching and sometimes beautiful, and appears to be one of the earliest movies to broach the subject of near-death experiences. Ellen Burstyn gives a warm and memorable performance as the woman whose life is changed forever through her brush with death, and who in turns changes the lives of others, with the film's conclusion being an especially poignant moment in this unusual drama. Nourishment for both heart and mind.
Hi Barry. Great comments on Resurrection. I thought how they handled the look of the afterlife was fascinating, very effective. Lovely scene with Richard Farnsworth too. I just wish Sam Shepard’s final scene had been handled a bit differently, but otherwise yes I agree an unusual and touching drama. Thanks for watching
Hi Neil, I did find the radio play of Sorry, Wrong Number on RU-vid. Thank you for mentioning it, cause I enjoyed hearing it a lot. It seemed kind of nice to just listen to it and not watch anything. That is really something that there were over 900 radio plays. I hope your evening(afternoon) is going well!
I remember seeing Boy A when it came out and i thought it was phenomenal. I remember renting it when I worked at Blockbuster back in the day. Now I have to find it to watch it once again. It also remind me of another movie that had a young Jamie Bell that I remember seeing about the same time. Have to look that one up... Most of these look intriguing. Well maybe not The Cutter. lol Keep these videos coming!
Hi. Boy A has delicate subject matter which I suppose is why it seems to be lesser known these days but what a great screen debut for Andrew Garfield. The Jamie Bell one you may be thinking of is Hallam Foe, one I still need to see…Thanks for watching
Hi Neil, The only one of these I have is Sorry, Wrong Number. But I do enjoy that one. I have seen Haunted quite awhile ago too. I love to see your reviews of these films. Don't think I will search for The Cutter though. Shock looks interesting to me. As does Tokyo Sonata. Even though The Horsemen looks good, I don't like films with animal cruelty, just love animals too much! Very enjoyable video from you as always!!! Have a happy Thursday!
Hi Lita. If you enjoyed Sorry Wrong Number then you can find the original radio play on RU-vid under the Suspense radio play playlist (amazing that there were over 900 radio plays!). I’d like The Horsemen to be better known but definitely the animal scenes and the general coldness of the characters make it a hard sell. I hope you’re having a good week. All the best
Hello Neil. Some great suggestions there. I too have the Prime Suspect box set and as you say really gripping drama that keeps you guessing. Tokyo Sonata is a wonderful drama. I'm lucky enough to have the Eureka bluray. Rambo played that horseback game in Rambo 3 I think.
Hi Roy. I’m really enjoying revisiting Prime Suspect, such a great role for Helen Mirren…. Nice you have the Eureka blu ray, you have a great collection of those….Correct, Bazkashi is played at the beginning of Rambo 3 but Frankenheimer films it with far greater realism and intensity. A very tough sport! Thanks for watching
Hi Neil, I had to pause and look up Boy A and see what event was linked to it….and yeah I remember it well (unfortunately) I wasn’t aware of Boy A though 🧐 Prime Suspect was a very good watch, it’s fun going back to old shows and seeing some of the actors in early roles. Not seen Ten Little Indians in decades. I’ve never seen a Chuck Norris movie (aside from his cameo appearance in one of the Expendables films) I did enjoy Resurrection. Take care mate👍😃👍
Hi Alan. Thanks for noticing that, you’re the only one so far who seems to have done so….Yes, I’m loving revisiting Prime Suspect as I’m pretty sure there were a number of them I missed originally….I definitely wouldn’t recommend The Cutter as a start point (or end point) for getting to know Chuck Norris. Code Of Silence (directed by The Fugitive director Andrew Davis) and The Delta Force were the only ones I saw at the cinema…Good you have seen Resurrection. I hope the family wedding went well. All the best
Hi Neil you really have a knack for finding obscure films must admit I don’t think I’ve come across any of those titles before will definitely check out the trailers to see if any are worth pursuing……thanks Dave 😊
Hi Dave. Thanks for watching. I try to talk about at least some that aren’t typically available. So many movies and so many that you just want people to know about. Mixed quality here but I hope some were of interest
I see that you have a TV series that I don't have in Prime Suspect but it sounds like one I should. I like watching all those Fox noirs but you are correct that it is one of the weaker ones. Ten Little Indians is a fun one although not quite as good as the 1945 And Then There Were None. I remember seeing Resurrection at the cinema and Ellen Burstyn does give a fine performance. Interesting set of films.
Hi Randy. A TV series you don’t have! Surely that’s not possible, haha. There are numerous crime dramas/police procedurals on tv but yes, I’d say Prime Suspect is well above the average, really well written episodes and it was a brilliant role for Helen Mirren. You’ll also see a lot of well known actors in supporting roles throughout the 7 seasons….I don’t have all the Fox film noirs but have quite a few. They’re all likeable but some, like this one, definitely have weaker storylines than others. Resurrection was interesting for sure, I just thought Sam Shepard’s final scene could have been handled better. Thanks for watching
Hi Kenny. A bit of a mixture here, some definitely better than others but hopefully at least one of interest. Thanks for watching. I hope you’re having a good week
Definitely a mixed bag there Neil. Would you say Shock is similar to De Palma's Dressed To Kill? It sounds a little like that in a less gratuitous way. I have Tokyo Sonata but not watched it yet. I'll give The Horsemen a miss. Animal cruelty doesn't sit well with me. I'll have to hunt down a copy of Sorry Wrong Number, I'm a big fan of Burt Lancaster and you can't go wrong with Barbara Stanwyck.
Hi Jamie. I see where you’re coming from but no, Shock is really nothing like Dressed To Kill (love De Palma’s over the top style on that one). Tokyo Sonata is definitely worth getting to and I’m sure you can write a good review on it. Rambo III opens with a buzkashi game but it’s nothing like the intensity of The Horsemen. I wish the film were better known but its cold characters and the distressing animal scenes make it a hard sell. Nice little early role for Burt in Sorry, Wrong Number. Not the strongest story but a likeable film and interesting to compare with the much shorter radio play
Hi Stuart. I’m loving rewatching it, so well written and Mirren is excellent. I didn’t see Haunted when you showed your Beckinsale collection so wasn’t sure if you had seen it
Hi David. Yes, I was pleased to pick up the full box set, I’m really enjoying revisiting it as I’m sure I likely missed some episodes originally. Thanks for watching
How Many fox film noir do you have in your collection. I don’t see 20th century studios Releasing any of those anymore because the mouse has them hostage. I always wanted to see 10 little Indians. I’ll probably going to hunt that down. This is a controversial thing to say but I really am not a fan of Chuck Norris 🤫
Hi Mike. Good question. I don’t have them all. I think there were 26 and I have 18 I believe although a couple on a different dvd release to the fox film noir series. I know greymike1951 has the complete set. There have been better versions of Ten Little Indians/And Then There Were None but I like the cast in this one and that they chose to set it on a snowy mountain top location….I don’t think your Chuck opinion is too controversial really, few of his films have been that good. Code Of Silence and The Delta Force are the only ones I got to see in the cinema. Thanks for watching
