Fun Fact. Andre the Giant, who plays Fezzik, once had a 15-second fart on set. When asked if he was OK, he said I am now .
@catbowserfantasytherapist3132
One of my favorite bits of trivia about this movie…the actor that played Inigo had recently lost his own father to cancer. During the final standoff against the 6 fingered man, he pictured his opponent as the cancer that killed his father. Thus all the emotion in that final line: “I want my father back, you son of a bitch.”

If you listen close he drops the Spanish accent and says it in his own voice

All the emotion of coming back from death, pure purpose & belief, not just his final words.

❤ "As you wish." ❤ Fun Fact: Cary Elwes and Mandy Patinkin performed all of their own sword-fighting after many hours of training. According to Rob Reiner, the only stunt performed by Elwes' stunt double was one flip during the "Chatty Duelists" scene. Historical Fact: There really was a "Dread Pirate Roberts" in real life. His name was Bartholomew Roberts, also known as Black Bart, who operated in the Caribbean in the early 18th century. He is reckoned by many to have been the most successful pirate of all time. Gentle Giant Fact: Despite his character Fezzik's almost-superhuman strength, André René Roussimoff's back problems at the time prevented him from actually lifting anything heavy. Robin Wright had to be attached to wires in the scene where Buttercup jumps from the castle window into Fezzik's arms because he couldn't support her himself.

I'm so glad Mom and Kim could finally see this amazing film! I remember when this first came out, I was like the grandson (who I recognized from "The Wonder Years") in that I didn't think I'd like it, but when I finally sat down to watch it, I was forever hooked. Two of the most amazing swordfights on film, and I loved the framing device of this being a story that's read to a child who gradually becomes more and more interested.

Andre was such a marvelous human being :) The movie was filmed in the very early spring, and the locations were often very chilly. When Robin would get cold Andre would just put his massive hands around her head to warm her up :) He was actually quite sick during filming, and in alot of pain. The movie released in '87 and Andre passed away in '93 💔😭😭😭😭😭

Interesting : Cary Elwes was actually knocked out briefly when the 6 fingered man hit him on the head after the fire swamp. He accidently hit him for real too hard.
@rebeccavaughn8897

I think it was an agreement between Elwes and the stunt coordinator. Elwes wanted it to look real and talked it out with the stunt coordinator who actually did it. It was only one take for safety reasons. So we’re actually watching Elwes’s fist/only take when he gets knocked out.

Many years ago, in 7th grade, my math teacher made our class watch this movie. The title sounded so stupid to me as a kid so I had very low expectations. We got to watch the first hour before class ended. Our teacher gave us permission to allow whoever wished to continue watching the movie to stay into the next period/class. I, and many other classmates, wanted to continue. No, not to get out of the next class, but because the movie was surprisingly funny and entertaining. I'll never forget that. They're right when they say "never judge a book/movie by it's title/cover art"

9:50 People who don't fence don't tend to notice this while people who do fence are already so mindblown that they fail to notice. MIB swings at IM's face. IM slashes to block. MIB steps past IM, turning while putting the sword into his left hand. Seeing MIB transfer his sword, IM transfers his sword to his right hand and thrusts. But MIB deflects IM's point WHILE tossing the sword into his own right hand. MIB's sword is in the air while IM is being blocked. IM is stunned by MIB's skill, and returns his own sword to his right hand. Now IM is completely lost, and it was this maneuver that confused IM such that MIB was able, at last, to disarm him. This is the best swashbuckling maneuver EVER put to film. I do not fence.

This movie is for everyone boys and girls it is such a great movie. This movie is based on a book. The writer of the book also wrote the script of the movie . The scene with Westley and the six finger man when the six finger man hit him in the head was real and the actor who plays Wesley had to go to the hospital. There was real spark between the main actors in real life Westley and Buttercup that's why it works. Andre the giant used his big hands to protect Robin Wright (Buttercup ) head when she was cold on the set. You should also see Wilow, Lady Hawk, The Never Ending Story and The Labyrinth 1986. This is one of the movies with an epic soundtrack like Conan The Barbarian or Highlander which you should also see. one of my favorite quotes from this movie "“We are men of action, lies do not become us.”" . This is the first reactor I saw who knows the grandpa is Peter Flac Rip who played Columbo :)

HOW DID YOU JUST *KNOW* WHAT I JUST WATCHED also I'm reading the book it was based on and it's a must-read after the movie. If the opening bores you or makes you hate the narrator, feel free to skip to ch1 (tho it did add to my experience) 34:39 That actually is what makes the book framing device so meaningful to me. It's a tale of how someone can get really, really invested in one story - a mediocre, not very well paced, cliched, unrealistic story - and carry it through all his life. Because it's never about the story. It's about the people (in that case, his father whose nightly readings of the book's "good parts" carried him through a bad case of pneumonia), and the change it brought in him as a child, even though it didn't actually make him into a very good person, it still meant so much that he wanted to pass on that book to his son who he didn't even love that much.

Humperdink never cared one iota for buttercup. She was always a means to an end in the form of starting a war. The subtrafuge that everyone misses is the Humperdink and the 6 fingered man are gay lovers.
