Masterpiece of a movie, I think this is way better than Requiem for a Dream, that movie is just doom and gloom and despair, Trainspotting has more soul and a little laugh along the way, plus an absolute banging soundtrack!
@nilesstark
@nilesstark Месяц назад
Trainspotting in a way was more of a follow-up to Requiem in that the Requiem characters were only getting started in terms of addiction while the Trainspotting characters were already there and basically finding a way out.

REQUIEM FOR A DREAM is pretty much the American equivalent of this, but my personal recommendation is FEAR & LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS, an insane adaptation of the best book written about the Dope Era.

If you haven't already, I highly recommend "SLC PUNK!". It's filmed in a similar style to this as a mockumentary. In fact it's much like this movie but a lot more light-hearted. Regardless of if you watch it on your own time or as a posted reaction i still recommend it.

Imagine how those of the same age watching this at the time felt and we’re still with them 25 years later when T2 came out. Trainspotting is burnt in to 90’s culture, as Diana points out everything was changing. It was never the same after after trainspotting. It and it’s sequel are prefect bookends for my generation. I do hope the blade artist story gets told, as Francis is as much a victim as he is a monster

This one one of Robert Carlyle's three big 90s performances. The others were in The Full Monty, about of unemployed middle aged men from Sheffield who decide to be strippers for one night to make money, and also as "Albie", in the three part "To Be a Somebody" story from Robbie Coltrain's criminal psyschologist series 'Cracker'. Each very different characters. Each one a great performance.

Such incredible film, always thought so. But, it realy hits different with "life experience". I can remember in my teens watching the scene in the hospital where the Doctor is shouting at Renton "Open your eyes! Wake up!" and thinking that she wasn't a very good actress. But, nowadays, the realisation is, she's playing a charecter who's seen this shit far too often, and is becoming more and more jaded. Yeah, I know that's alot considering she's only on screen for a matter of seconds, but still.
@deadcatthinks6725
@deadcatthinks6725 4 месяца назад
Also the nurse when Renton goes back for his HIV test - he says "ow" when she puts the needle in his arm, and the look she gives him, basically saying "what's a junkie doing complaining about a needle?".

The movie, as most movies are to their books, is just an outline to the book. There are a lot more characters in the book; Tommy’s a speed addict from the beginning. The movie actually has a better ending. The scene where Spud’s poop flies everywhere, after, in the book, everyone starts throwing-up. And each chapter is written in the accent of the character’s point-of-view it’s presenting; Begbie’s the strongest.

The drugs did kill Tommy, just indirectly. Toxoplasmosis is a parasitic infection that affects the central nervous system and only presents clinical symptoms (which lead to death) in situations of immunosuppression such as advanced stages of HIV. He contracted toxoplasmosis from the cat, but his terrible immune status was due to HIV that he probably contracted from using so many needles to inject heroin in very unsanitary situations.

I read the books as a young teenager. Hubert Selby Junior's books are incredibly well written, I got my way through most of them including Requiem for a Dream. But I had to quit reading his books after some of his short stories. Irvine Welsh wanted to be like him and some of those other shock dudes. Trainspotting is excellent, the rest were rubbish.

@@amylorraine3776 I liked it the first time I saw it in theaters, but it took some time to grow on me because I think I wanted the same feeling I had when I saw the original as a kid way back when. However, if you watch it with the correct perspective, you realize that not being able to go back, to do it all it again, is actually the point of the sequel, which is why it feels so different even though it makes a number of references to this first film. There are a few people who think the sequel is better than the original, but nostalgia prevents me from saying that, so I'll leave my final comment here to say that I think it is as good but in a different way - something one might appreciate more if you've sort of aged along with the guys.

U ARE AMAZING...watching women react to some of these scenes makes me cringe tho, ha:/ but, its a masterpiece of a film none the less....also, yeah, my story is kinda similar to yours, im 48 years old, & now sober for 6 years (still on tobacco tho, lol), but i was an alcoholic (& a bit of a weed smoker) among so many junky friends...it is sad, two i knew are dead, two did prison time, one of them is ok now, the other one is still really struggling, yet another friend struggles from time to time but is more or less ok-ish, & one , after many struggles over the decades, has a pretty nice life now, & is married with a good career....but yeah, its rough man....anyway, GREAT reaction, im really stoked to have found ur channel, liked & subscribed:)

I'd love to experience heroin, I'll never take it though. Anyone in Tommy's position, no, anyone that's an adult, should try DMT. Created by our own bodies and many other species, a molecule that is the strongest psychedelic known. The most awe inspiring and humbling experiences I've ever had in the 3 times I've tried. No addiction. Beyond comprehension. Shaman in the Amazon have been making Ayahuasca for a long time, go warp speed and pure DMT pulls back the curtain and allows you to experience true reality before returning to this existence with a love and appreciation for everyone and everything. Be well one and all.

You made no comments about: direction, acting, plot, the novel, your opinions on the characters. this really wasn't a reaction; it was just you sitting, watching a movie. This was the best film of that year. It blew everyone away. the character of Begbie, the comedy of Spud, the relationships of men in their twenties -- which is often shallow. The soundtrack. The realism. The dialogue.

Hearing a opinion about :direction, acting, plot, the novel or opinions on characters in not necessary for it to be a reaction.
