I have several Bibles. Right now I am taking notes in one of them using your "yellow pen method" 🙂 except I'm using a pink pen and highlighter. It really is working nicely for me. Glad to have found your channel.
Hello Joe, I don't collect premium bibles but I do collect different translations. I think have have well over 60 now. But like you I love reading and comparing translations because it gives me a richer few of certain Bible passages. Thanks for your encouraging people to read the Bible in any case...
For awhile I was really into premium Bibles. Had probably 15 Bibles in total. But I found that I didn’t like carrying one to church as everyone else had an old beat up Bible and frequently commented on the beauty of my Schuyler. I felt it brought u wanted attention to me. And for home use, I honestly didn’t want to write in them, so generally pulled on old hardback or leather soft Bible off the shelf at night. I gave away most of them and am now content with owning a beautiful Schuyler but also several less expensive versions. I know people love premium Bibles for their beauty but for me I found I was covering them like an expensive purse, or because of their content. Truth be told…I prefer hardback Bibles for everyday !
I don't collect premium Bibles, but I do own three, one of which I'm using for a full read-through this month; 50 pages a day will get me through the whole thing, including Apocrypha, with a couple of days to spare. My other two premiums live in their boxes, so I may be finding a new home for one of them. But this experience of reading a premium is keeping me fully engaged. It feels like this Bible is wrapped in respect and reverence for the importance of what it holds. Each of my premiums is a different translation, and I'm actually planning another premium purchase when one that I want is released later this year. But I'm in my mid-60s, and God saw me through cancer in this last 12 months, so I don't have an urge to collect things now. I have read the Bible multiple times. At least three times in the 1970s, when I was in high school, but then I turned my back on God and spent 40 years in a spiritual desert. Since coming back to Jesus in 2014, I've read the whole thing five times, and parts of it upwards of 30 times (while having a "epistle of the month," where I would start each day reading through that one epistle in addition to my regular reading). So right now I'm reading the NRSVue with Apocrypha for the month of July, and I'm doing a one-year chronological Bible read-through aloud with my Dear Husband. Last year we read the NET together; this year it's the NLT. Thanks for this video, and for your thoughtful stance.
Wow! Thanks for sharing. What you wrote really blessed me. I love your testimony! Well, as you know from my channel, premiums have definitely helped me read the Bible too. No doubt! God bless!
I am not a collector of premium bibles (the price is crazy on them and for a stay at home mama with 3 littles a couple hundred on a bible doesn't fit into budget no matter how many times I save) but I do have quite a few study Bibles journaling Bibles etc I use to only have one bible that I found at a soup kitchen it was pretty beat up but I started with that and read it probably 10 times cover to cover now (it actually lost its cover and is currently being rebound and I cannot wait to have it back maybe it will again be my main bible) I struggle now to read from just one bible ha how silly huh 😜 Idk but thank you for this channel and sharing the journey with us ❤️❤️❤️ Lord and King Jesus bless you 😁 can't wait to see this channel grow and change how exciting joe 😉
Not silly at all. I feel ya. But that Bible you found in the soup kitchen and read 10 times, I hope you continue treasuring it and reading it. Amazing!
That’s awesome! I think you have a some good thoughts on this. From what I’ve seen I didn’t think of you as a “Bible collector” but I can see that being something I wouldn’t necessarily want to be considered either. Looking forward to seeing you have the channel be what you want it to be. ✌🏼
I too have been guilty in the past of making premium bibles an idol instead of reading the word and living it out. My beloved late grandmother was a WW2 refugee, all she had was a small hardback bible in polish, she read and cherished that small cheap bible till her death. Much of what she taught me was from that little polish bible. God bless
Good decision brother. I also made the same decision, but I gave away my excessive collection. I still have a ridiculous amount of Bibles, but we do give them away on a regular basis. As the Lord provides... I enjoy a hardback for writing purposes. It is hard to write in my note taker when in my lap. Goatskin is too floppy. 😮 Thanks for the video brother. God's best to you on your journey.
Plus the cost of premium Bibles has really skyrocketed over the last few years. I am now down to about three Bibles (Darby, KJV, ESV), none very expensive. I expect to read through the Scriptures three times this year.
Well said brother. I resonate so much with what you said in this video. I am so thankful for my premium Bibles, but I don’t want to focus on them as the “main thing”. I agree there is nothing wrong with collecting, but I also think it should be uncontested to say that there is more value in the reading of said Bible.
Brother, I was in the middle of thinking through this video when I saw your video about whether or not Bible collecting is a sin. Like you, I"m thankful for my premiums. And I agree, there is more value in reading the Bibles I own.
I am in the same boat. God has been putting me in non premium bibles also. I just got the NET full notes in Leathersoft and I love it. God is shifting people to draw them nearer to him. God bless you and yours.
Hi Joe, I could not agree more and encourage you in your endeavour. On my channel scripture is the basis of content with all my personal bibles shown too. Some bibles I have given away, some I sold on eBay, and some I would still like to sell to get my bibles down to absolute best selection I love reading across KJV, NKJV, and ESV. G’day from Jae!
@@joesbibles5636 No! It is an Australian slang for hello. I don't normally use it myself but thought I would for fun. G'day is short for " good day," as in hello, (and often goes with "mate" is a slang term for friend). So, it was, hello from me, Jae! Sorry. I won't use it again on Americans, lol. Thank you for what you said about my little channel. I appreciate it, my brother.
@@joesbibles5636 Thanks! I do understand your point. I also have a few premium Bibles and other high-end ones (made in China), and I totally understand your point. My desire is to read from all my Bibles and not just simply collect them.
When a channel starts doing the "don't covet premium bibles" trope, I unsubscribe. Good job virtue signaling, maybe get them all on kindle to show how woke you are for going paper free? For the record, nobody outside clergy and gentry was supposed to have bibles for a long time and they were prohibitively expensive until recently (all books really) . For them to now become nice - but expensive - after a few generations of cheap but terrible mass production examples, that opportunity cost is a personal choice made available by the mass market bellyaching for better.
