Since May 2022, I am no longer a rifleman. I wanted to make a quick video to explain the change and how I feel about being a guardsman.

Sounds like you're living the dream! I wish my unit could be transferred to another regiment. Back when they were part of PWRR, they had more opportunities to train..... Think they went away every other weekend. And from what I've been told, they were able to maintain troop numbers and morale. Since I joined, it seems like most of them are just doing the bare minimum to get their bounty. And our main squadron in Southampton has a flapping situation when people go over their 38 days. I want a lot more than the odd ITR weekend or adventurous training. But at least I've been accepted to be mobilised for the Commonwealth Games :-)

I'm saddened by the change personally. I joined the Londons for the Coy I'm in due to my heritage and family. For it to now have changed, whilst very exciting, has left me very sad. It's also a funny note that they tried to get rid of the multi cap badge system only to go back to it within a year of rolling out the new Btn wide cap badge.

@@ChelsieAngeles Hi chelsea, hope your keeping well, I mean no disrespect but we all have our opinions on things & mine probably will not Im sure be very popular at all. You come across to me as being a very nice person. I agree women have a valued place in the armed forces but I know from personal experience the infantry is absolutely not one for women ( yes you will by now be looking up & tutting, here we go again another out dated attitude ). Could you honestly imagine yourself in a trench in eastern europe somewhere with dozens of sweaty men, not washing or changing your clothes not being able to shower for days maybe weeks at a time. You could be facing death or being seriously injured with a life changing disability every day. This actually could happen with events in ukraine. This conflict may very well be conventional warfare like in the past, bayonets, basic killing ect. I also served in the guards, I was 16 (boy soldier) the training was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. The chances are Im sure you wont reply to this or even get to read it. Wow things have changed! Once a Rifleman always a Rifleman! You should be proud to be a Rifleman especially after 18 months. No disrespect to your personal opinion but please don't throw away the privilege of being a Rifleman, like it's disposable and meaningless! If you wanted to be a guard, then maybe you should of gone straight to the regs? I'm a former Green Jacket and I'm immensely proud to be a Rifleman and will be to the day I die! Displine is ver y high (self discipline) in the Light Div and we are solely a combat unit, not a combat/ ceremonial one and taught to think for ourselves and uphold the Riflemans ethos of being a thinking soldier and self disciplined, that's the difference. Good luck in your career moving forward, just be proud to be part of you whoever you serve with and its history and traditions and of those who did before you. Its an honour. Celer et Audax.

I served in the army for twenty years, and I can't be enthusiastic about a woman in the infantry, even in a reserve unit. From bitter experience, I know that service in the infantry isn't just about capbadges and berets, but about blood and tears, sometimes killing but often being killed. No amount of optimistic support from wellwishing civilians will disguise the ultimate reality of the infantry. That they are employed to kill and society should be happy to see them dead in exchange for the security of the country. If you aren't content with that transaction you really ought to keep your peppy comments to yourself. In my opinion this video makes a mockery of the infantry.

Can you imagine her in a toe to toe basic gutter killing situation with a russian infantryman absolute joke. Completely & utterly clueless. However the infantry is a very different ball game, its one thing getting through the very demanding training another standing toe to toe eye to eye with a russian infantryman or any other of our adversaries, Im talking about bayonets, hand to hand gutter killing this may sound rather dramatic but its what the infantry can be called upon to do and in our recent history has happened, Falklands war, & Iraq, its what they do. In these situations you just cannot afford to have anybody who is a liability to themselves or others.
