Would you all be comfortable doing a video, specifically, on diversity in the Fairfax Public School System? My husband and I are, also, living in New Orleans (...well, Slidell) raising our two young sons (2 and 3 years old). Both of our sons are in private schools and are tracking to continue based on the ratings (despite Slidell public schools ranking higher than New Orleans). My heart breaks, however, because our choice to send them to private school means that they will probably continue to be the only black boys in their class. My husband and I are in business together and are working on creating another income that will allow us to move from New Orleans, but keep our current business here going. We stumbled upon Fairfax due to the high rated public school system....however, we cannot seem to find the right video addressing diversity. The research we have completed shows us it will be more diverse than Slidell, proximity to D.C., influx of international people, etc...but not sure if it will be THAT much better. Can you all speak on this? Any thoughts? Thank you both for your consistency and work on Fairfax.

The simplest way to explain it is that Fairfax County schools decrease in diversity as you move towards the northern part of Fairfax County. King street metro station has a lot of stuff right there and when you mentioned the Carlye offices for restaurants you’re very close to Eisenhower station and very very close to King Street which is walking distance. If you mention Huntington station, you might as well mention Eisenhower because the two particular stations are very very close to each other. There’s not a big gap between those two. If it wasn’t for the water, you could actually walk from Eisenhower to Huntington in probably about 10 minutes. On the train itself it’s about a I would say 10 to 30 seconds between Huntington and Eisenhower King Street is a part of Alexandria as well. You’re right there at King Street the actual street which is loaded with restaurants stores you name it you could just walk that whole street which is about a mile or two I guess and it’s just loaded with just restaurants right by the Waterford Park by the time you get to the end of the road you’re at the park and you can see the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, so I would say basically the Alexandria stops would be Huntington Eisenhower King St., Vandoren and Franconia Springfield
Also, I would kind of mention apartments to because not everybody can afford condos and houses especially with my income. Thank God there’s two of us. A lot of people that move in northern Virginia can’t afford all these homes so I will talk about also Mount Vernon Square, Apartments, which is directly across the street from Mount Vernon plaza, which is has a lot of shops restaurants the whole nine.

Fairfax is the largest county in Virginia! City of Alexandria would never move in that direction. I’ve lived in both and love both. I own in Fairfax Cty sitting on the border off Telegraph Rd. I Travel between both regularly. Huntington is 3 mins away. Let’s not talk about 5 mins from WW Bridge and 10 from National Harbor. I’m a New Yorker and life is hood here!
Omg Alexandria is where the Walking Dead takes place . They even had nice homes on the show . It was a big gated community too. I love every city in Fairfax county. I’m in fort Belvoir. I don’t know where I want to live within the next two years . I’ll be contacting y’all when I figure everything out

If people really repped Fairfax as the independent country it is and stop trying to make them towns like McLean and Tyson as independent cities which it's not cause VA counties are basically independent cities so to the fast no independent cities belong to any county Fairfax would be known more world wide is bigger than va Beach with 1.2 million makes it a major city honestly bigger than DC and bmore Fairfax deserves way more respect as far as being a large jurisdiction it's a independent county like Arlington which they'll call a city but keep breaking Fairfax down like the cities are different zones or jurisdictions which they're not and Fairfax is huge and should be called Fairfax county and just that and stop breaking it down all the world can know all them unknown areas are all apart of a huge very known area and watch how much Fairfax really explode with popularity and more fame as a area
How do you measure safety? Unfortunately, real estate agents can not make claims about safety. Best Places has a safety stat on their website you can use.
22309/22306 would be a area that has more crime than others. Born and raised here so not saying it’s unsafe but your likely to hear police/fire noise semi often
Depends on what area you're comparing Alexandria schools to and what you could purchase in your price range. Would you prefer a longer commute to get into a high-rated public school?
I think the best way to contextualize the school ratings is by comparing them to the national average. While some schools might rank lower within Fairfax county, the county as a whole is very well funded and well resourced. Plus, until last year, all educators in the public school system were required to have at least a Master's degree to teach. I grew up in the Mount Vernon area and went to one of the "lower ranking schools." In my personal experience, you get out of the schools what you put into them. I took AP classes and managed to use the credits I earned to graduate from university a full year early. I am personally very satisfied with the quality of education I received and the opportunities I had through the schools in Fairfax county. I also have many friends in the area (from various ethinic and socio-economic backgrounds) who went on to get scholarships to great universities both in and out of state. The solid educational infrastructure and opportunities are there for anyone who wants them.
