I have been living in Baja Norte (Ensenada) for 20 months. I have not had a problem renewing my 180 Visa without leaving Ensenada, by simply writing a letter stating that I have arrangements to stay an additional 6 months. I told my landlord I had written the letter. I put his name and phone number on the letter, in the unlikely event that he is contacted to confirm I have a rented apartment. It took less than 30 minutes and cost me $30 US.

Regarding renting, I simply asked my Airbnb hostess if she would rent to me off of Airbnb. The final result is that I’m renting a fully furnished apartment in Mexico City for $5700 MXN ($280 USD), all I have to pay for is cable TV if I want it. Also, regarding health insurance, those who are on Medicare should check their Medicare Advantage plan which MAY have emergency coverage in Mexico; contact your provider to find out

So here we go....We just wanted to share our experience at the Atlanta consulate. After days of trying to figure out how to get an appointment I finally (accidentally) clicked the correct link and BAM there we were, I found it while in Ajijic on our 6 day adventure to discover our future home town. The only appointments they had were 2 days after we got back to the states so I knew we would have to bust butt to get all of our paperwork in line. After a 9 hour day of getting originals and copies of our statements from 401K, IRA's and savings for the last 12 months and copies of our marriage certificate, passports ect......as we were going for the economic solvency we saddled up and drove to Atlanta from our home in Savannah, ga for our Wednesday appointment. Nervous about if we had everything in order we were called for our turn. The night before we put our statements in order from the NEWEST on top to the OLDEST on bottom thinking when they saw the HIGHER balances on top they would go no further into the statements and it worked. As I attempted to slide her more paperwork she pushed it back to me and said the 401K would be plenty and she did not need anymore. ALL she took was 1 ORIGINAL and 1 COPY of our 401K and did not need the rest, she actually did not even look at the rest, however I would recommend still making all the copies ect just to cover your buns. She then took our picture and fingerprints and our $48.00 USD per person and told us to come back at noon to pick up our temp res and passports. When we arrived back in her office she said it would be a few more minutes and WE GOT IT. The people at the consulate from the front door thru the entire process were wonderful, helpful and seemed happy to help in anyway. The Atlanta consulate is a wonderful place to fulfill your dreams and we highly recommend going there. We hope this will help you in your adventure and the best of luck to everyone. Let the adventure begin. Ajijic, MX will be our new home.

The info on the webpage of the consulate in DC says originals and a copy of my retirement/invest accounts. Is that still the case? And, I no longer receive originals by mail, so I'm assuming that downloads printed out are acceptable.

Hi Alex, I was on the live session yesterday but could not comment. I wanted to thank you for the residency handbook! I now have my temporary residency visa and looking forward to moving to Querétaro within the next few months. I will continue working in the brewing industry, I am in international sales so can work from anywhere. I have friends & family that will investigate rental properties for me. I look forward to meeting you & Taylor! I wanted to confirm with you that I needed to set up an appointment with INM a month and a half prior to getting there for my 30 day visit. I have contacted Ivonne via WhatsApp, but, never heard back from her. You must be keeping her busy. LOL. Keep up the good work!

You might be interested in knowing that Lagunitas (of Lagunitas IPA fame) was purchased by Heineken a few years ago. Just recently they opened a Lagunitas brewery in San Juan del Rio, 30 miles south of Queretaro! So finally, there is great beer available here, and...it's cheaper than any other import, or Mexican artisanal beer, most of which is terrible anyway!

For us we really don’t need to see detailed expenses but just a total average monthly expense would be helpful and maybe ease our minds….as a couple is $1500/month doable ? $1800 ? $2000 ? Hi Alex, when a person shows their bank statement at the consulate do they have to show their account number or can they erase it for security reasons? Also, are utility bills expensive in Mexico, especially gas and electricity? Here in the UK, gas and electricity prices have been hiked by as much as 100%. I've been to Mexico 3 times, visiting 12 cities including Queretaro. After visiting 50 countries I have to say that Mexico is the best. Thanks for the video.
@alex-wittman
@alex-wittman 2 года назад
Hi, Terry! Utilities like gas and electricity are subsidized by the government so they're very affordable--the exception is if you're running the A/C all the time (I don't have an A/C here in Queretaro). Have a set of copies where the number is redacted and another set where it's not--just in case the ask. That's my recommendation. But, I don't see why they would need to see the account number. It's more important that the name in your passport matches the one on the account.

Hi Alex! I enjoyed your livestream last night. You are really helping me prepare for my move to Mexico. I have a question that didn't get answered last night and you may be able to provide some insight on. When applying for a Temp visa we are asked to provide proof of income for the prior 6-12 months. Do they require proof, or ask about future income? Do we need to show that our income will continue once we are in Mexico? Thanks, Alex!
@alex-wittman
@alex-wittman 2 года назад
Hi, Thomas! It’s all based on past/current income. If you’re applying based on monthly income, you will need a letter from your employer stating your position/your salary for the last 6-12 months. Keep it simple!

Hello Alex. Thank you for your videos! I am planning to get permanent or temporary residence for me and my 22 year old daughter. I am a little confused about income requirements. I have rental income and enough money in my savings accounts. I don’t work in the states, so will they consider me retired even that I am 54 years old? My daughter has a job that is not completely remote. They might or might not allow her to work remotely in the future. The job pays her enough to qualify for income. But if she moves to Mexico, this job is not guaranteed. Do Mexican emigration services consider her salary as an income, even so she might not have it after moving? Also, we live in different states now. I am in NY, and she is in Charlotte NC. Can we apply at the same consulate, so we can get everything together at the same time? Sorry for a lot of questions! We just starting the process. Thank you so much! Anna

Is the requirement for financials greater if my spouse and I apply for residency? If we have joint back accounts our numbers will be the same, how would that work when applying for residency?
@alex-wittman
@alex-wittman 2 года назад
You can apply as individuals if you both meet the financial requirements. If you have joint bank accounts, it will likely be that one person applies & the other travels to Mexico as a tourist. Once the primary person has their residency card, they can link the other person to their residency application at INM in Mexico. You just need your marriage certificate with an apostille. No additional financial requirements need to be met.

Hi Alex. I have questions about the financial requirements for getting a temporary visa in Mexico. We can't get an appointment for residency at a Mexican consulate in Ontario. We have been trying since last April. We have heard you can apply for TR while in Mexico. Is this an expensive way of obtaining TR? Because there is a lot of fear here in Canada of our bank accounts being frozen by the government, we have invested in crypto currencies and precious metals. If we turn these investments back into dollars, we have more than enough to meet the financial requirements for temporary retirement residency. Although, one of us is not of retirement age yet. What is your opinion on how the Mexican consulate would view our financial situation for getting temporary residency and what we should do?
@alex-wittman
@alex-wittman 2 года назад
Being retired isn't a requirement for temporary residency. If you meet the financial requirements listed on your consulate website, you're good to go. People are obtaining residency in Mexico via the regularization program...which there's not a lot of info online about & it's not standardized across the country. From what I understand, it's for people who've spent significant time in Mexico the last several years as tourists. The best/clearest path is going the consulate route. Is your consulate not open for visa interviews? Is there an option to travel to another?
@skygirlmarcia3651
@skygirlmarcia3651 2 года назад
My adult son has similar savings to you. He obtained his 4 year temporary visa through the regularzation program on March 1, 2022 here in San Miguel Dr Allende. Not sure how long this program will last,but it you meet the requirements do it soon before they stop it.(no financials required) He used Ian Clements, Attorney, who was excellent.

@@alex-wittman Ty for the reply. My question was more about cashing in investments ( which is going to be a loss in money which was invested ) and putting the money cashed out in a bank account which still does not meet the 12 month of required savings the MX regulations are requiring. No consulate interviews in either consulates nearest to us (both are a 3 hour drive ) . We are in southern Ontario have been pretty much locked into staying in our provinces. The 6 th wave is on our doorstep as we speak ( more lock downs and regulations ). . Neither of us meet the regularization requirements. We're basically fleeing a dictatorship here in Kanada. I love your videos you explain things exceptionally well. Hopefully things will turn out alright if we can make it across the Chinada/ US border.

?Hey Alex. Do I have to be 62 or retired to apply for Permanent Residency? (Which is what the NYC consulate told me in a phone call) 🌴
@alex-wittman
@alex-wittman 2 года назад
Some consulates only grant permanent residency to retirees (or people at or above retirement age) regardless of if the applicant meets the financial requirements. This isn’t universal across all consulates, but it sounds like it’s this way at the NYC consulate. Each application is at the discretion of the consulate official.
