Moving To Thailand - My Tips and Advice by Request

In this episode I talk about my tips and advice for moving to Thailand. I receive many requests for this and instead of responding to each one individually, I have decided to dedicate an episode about moving to Thailand. Some People are beginning to return now as a path for a tourist visa has been established for some nations. For months now, all I have received are the sad stories of those who had planned to move only to have their plans postponed. Right now the messages are changing in tune by the day and people are making plans to return so hopefully my tips and advice may be pertinent to some. This is not a path for normal tourism but rather for people who have been planning a long term stay for work, retirement or other reasons but have been locked out. Enjoy the Ride!

On my visits to Thailand, I usually rent a 125cc motorscooter. Not too fast. Not too slow. When riding the scooter, I always wear either a red glove on my left hand or a set of red bracelets on my left wrist. This is to remind me constantly to drive on the left side. I also put a set of red wrist bands on the left handlebar and a set of red wrist bands on the mirror to provide me additional reminders. After a week or two, it starts coming naturally, but I still use my visual reminders for my whole trip.

Depending on your age and financial circumstances visas such as the Non Immigrant O-A based on retirement are available through many embassies. This gives you an initial 12 months and if the borders do open even for Asian travel during that 12 months you can extend it for up to another 12 months for free. If you are coming from Australia, bring vegemite in large quantities. Yes you can buy it here but it is seriously expensive. Larger sized shirts and shorts are easily purchased second hand very cheap. Luckily I don't need them any more as the lifestyle here is extremely healthy and you can quickly lower your sizes.

Been here since the 21st of August and got my retirement visa here. It was not an option to get it when I first came but it was easy to do so once I was here. Getting everything necessary to settle down fortunately we have a house in the countryside already working on getting a condo in Bangkok so that we have the option to stay in the city when necessary as there are things and services in the city that are not available in the countryside. I previously opened a bank account and deposited money in order to qualify for the retirement visa. The advise you give is spot on, people have to remember that you are in a country that does things the way they want, so you shouldn’t bring expectations based on where you are from and expect a smooth transition.

Interesting vlog. Lots to consider. Regards what to fill your cases with, I agree, buy clothes and stuff when you arrive. I even do that on 2-week vacations. I can pack enough for 2-weeks vacation into a standard size carry-on. I buy toiletries when I land. Any decent clothes I bring with me, I make sure they don’t need ironing, lower maintenance. BUT if I were to bring any hold luggage with me to Thailand, I would fill it with haggis 😂

Great content, as usual. I've watched your past year of videos and really appreciate your style. Especially your recent condo tours. But I'm curious about buying - not to get too personal, but if you're there long term, as it appears, do you plan on buying? My initial searches show a decent 1 BR can be found for under$100-125k. I've spent a lot of time in Bangkok, and traveled a fair bit from Phuket to Chiang Rai and am seriously considering buying such a place in the Pattaya region. Any brief words of wisdom? Another great video from who is now by far the best Thailand Vlogger. What do you think of my move to Thailand plan I'm toying with ? I'm thinking of buying a cheap Bangkok Condo to rent out. Have the rent put into a Thai bank account and leave it there for the next 8 to10 years or so and then retire to Thailand then and have the accumulated rent as my sort of pension fund ? Pros and Cons ? I really do miss Thailand after living there for over 15 years and love watching the real Thailand that I miss and not the Thai Tourist BS places you tend to see on here

The mosquitoes weren’t too bad. They like to hang out under the tables at night. Most places we ate at outside or near the water have fans on the floor for that reason. I have a personal like for certain hot sauces like Texas Pete or Louisiana hot pepper sauce for oysters. Excellent pieces of advice Lucas, thank you. Naturally having watched every video on the channel I have heard most of these previously but the most important to me is the cultural aspects you refer to. The main reason I need to live there is because of just those two things; chill, and be friendly and smile. The biggest problem westerners seem to have, even here, is doing just that. Thailand escapes the stuck up, unfriendly, selfish, non smiling, miserable existence that most seem to bask in in North America. 😅😉😬 If you can't chill and smile; don't go to Thailand. You won't be welcome. They are warm, friendly, respectful, content and happy people. That is what makes it Thailand. Great job boss! Another video I would really be interested in is one about getting a job and living there. That's a little trickier. I want to go there to work and contribute to society and help, not just retire. Future video perhaps? Thx. C ya when I c ya! 🍻👍🏼🙏🏼🇹🇭

Linking back to your Pattaya business ideas vlog, suggest you listed several significant customer retail demands. At the core is a local service to provide hard-to-find items like extra-wide shoes or peanut butter to tourists or expatriates. Setup a local shop and then franchise the service. All I ask is 1% of the gross...:-)
