Animation Effects Editor here. We definitely took inspiration from the Tactical Reload for the MP5 for Modern Warfare. The hardest part was like you said trying to handle the second magazine during the reload process and was a pain to recreate in the animation but we eventually got it right. We worked on it for a good while because the MP5 is one of the iconic weapons in Modern Warfare so we wanted it to be satisfying and accurate. The second mag also made us juggle a little bit during the animation process. Great video.

Now just need to get myself an MP5...

Good job on the video, I always enjoy your stuff. Just one comment on using your thumb, I trained at the HK academy in the late 80's. The instructors taught two fundamentals, 1. Every action begins with locking the bolt back (loading, unloading, weapon malfunction, etc). 2. They always trained to use gross motor skills, big motions with large parts of your anatomy, that way you would not become Mr fumble thumbs when the stress was on! You guys do great work, it's nice to see some love for the old girl MP5 in a world of CZ scorpions and MPX's.

Ahh...now I understand how the slap became the standard manual of arms for the MP5. I had long thought that using the safety notch to hold the bolt back was inefficient and potentially compromising due to the extra motion of locking the bolt to the rear and how locking the bolt back created a massive ingress point for the duration of the reload. Knowing that its impossible to insert a loaded mag into an MP5 in a closed-bolt position and the charging handle's catering towards gross motor skills explains to me how the slap came to be.

I’ve just noticed that the MP5 looks like a shortened version of the G3.

its such a nice little gun... those issues could be fixed with a little r&d... different mag release, a little tinkering with the mags and one extra lever and it would be perfect.

man, I've learned how to reload MP5 by keeping reloading a Call of Duty's MP5 reload animation over and over and over. and the most satisfying feeling is when you slap that charging handle after you put the mag on.

I dont own an MP5 or any fire arm at all, but this is some awesome information that i didn't know i needed or wanted.

Time mark 4:18 “Tactical Reload” mentioned he didn’t know why anyone would do it, but actually two reasons; 1st) never enter a blind area with a half empty magazine..! Always enter enclosed areas “structures” with fully loaded magazines for worst case scenarios..! 2nd) during heavy combat periodic breaks taking cover from enemy returning live fire, reloads, and/or preventing firearms from overheating. Never reengage enemies with half loaded magazines until absolutely necessary..! That’s why so many militaries around the world are using clear body plastic magazines so soldiers can look down obtaining visual rough estimate ammunition remaining within previously unloaded magazines..!

I run an MP5 in the PCC division in USPSA. Way faster to just download your reload mags to 28, then you dont need to lock the bolt back. Seat a 28rd mag and pull the charging and let it go. This is all on the clock where time is king. And hot reloads are possible. Half empty isn't really needed, 28 rounds is downloaded enough to still seat. Plenty of examples on my channel of my doing this on the clock.
