@Cat96 I reckon Mr G may have been to the same private school as Ja'mie. They don't teach the young people there to be snobs, but then again they don't teach them not to be.
He's exactly, exactly and exactly like some young teachers I have worked with. To those who think this is just comedy, it's not! More real than ever, reason why it's so funny!
The other teacher who hero-worships Mr G is hilarious too, gazing lovingly at his remarkable idol. This is really excellent comedy, but real enough that many people truly think it's a FOTW documentary. I recall my brother's attitude to The Office after watching a bit of the first episode was "I get enough of that office shit at work, all day every day; why would I want to watch a documentary about it in the evenings?". THAT is when you know a FOTW spoof has succeeded.
That makes me think of the show Utopia, another Aussie comedy... I was in Canada working in a government office when it came out, and I asked my manager (who was from Melbourne) what she thought of it, and she said she could hardly stand watching it cos it reminded her too much of a real workday XD
I had an english teacher who reminds me so much of Mr G😭 She would have us go outside in the front of the school and lay down on the concrete to “soak up the sunshine” and we’d have sharing circles daily. So many people would overshare, including my teacher, and it would be so awkward at times, hahahaha. Definitely a class and teacher I won’t forget, she was amazing!
Me too. Me and my husband still reference it all the time - especially the bit from the play where it's like, "'No, Jessica, don't get involved in drugs!' - 'It's too late, sir' - 'Noooo!'" for all kinds of things in daily life :P Oh and "can't you watch MTV for once" lol. It's just so referenceable. It's one of my top 5 comedies, for sure.... One of my favourite parts that tends to get overlooked is during the drug play, when Jessica and Celine die, and Celine gets taken up to heaven while Jessica is just put in a coffin XD It gets me every time.
This is the problem with young people today everything has to be analysed and you've got to use all these technical words to make yourself sound smart . We just enjoyed the bloody show for what it was, we pissed ourselves laughing and we didn't have to do a complete analytical break down of every character just switch off for once and just enjoy the bloody show. just be an audience member for once instead of having to make it about you
oh my god his characters are so realistic. i had a teacher like this who was arrogant, judgy, perfectionist, etc but luckily i was his favorite student so i never got on his bad side.
There is no way in hell would I be able to keep a straight face with him meowing and dancing around in that pink thing. I've always had a sense that besides Rodney, nobody thinks Mr G is as important as Mr G does....the man wants a building literally the size of the Madison Square Garden constructed just for himself, and practically wants the entire Summer Heights High school knocked down! 😂😂😂
Whether it was Jonah, Ja'mie or Mr G, Chris Lilley nailed it. As somebody who's been teaching for over 6 years now (working towards a career change) I've seen a fair few Jonahs and Ja'mies in my time. And sadly, I've had to work alongside a few Mr Gs as well. The Mr Gs were, by far, the worst. Funny in the short term, but I've seen the Mr Gs turn good workplaces into miserable workplaces.
So sad we don't see any of this on normal television anymore . I'm convinced the internet paid all the TV stations not to make this stuff so we all end up on tiktok for entertainment lol
Cant understand why this show and many other show's of his have been taken off netflix. He look's at anorexia and bullying of other teacher, and disabled children.. not too mention why hasn't the feminist stood up and complained about his other show that has not been taken of netflix 'Jamie'? That takes the piss out of girl's? I know there are terrible thing's happening atm in the world, i just wished it did not get too this point..
K but this is literally my previous drama teacher😂 he would watch this with us over break and lunch at school and we'd always be like "this is actually you". Mr Coles, if you see this, you're the best!
