Mrs. America recounts the movement to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) and the unexpected backlash led by Phyllis Schlafly, aka “the sweetheart of the silent majority.” Through the eyes of the women of the era, the FX series explores how one of the toughest battlegrounds in the culture wars of the 70s helped give rise to the Moral Majority and forever shifted the political landscape.

While the majority of this debate is dramatized, Phyllis Schlafly did, in fact, cite a fictional Illinois case and wouldn't/couldn't come up with a real example when she was pressed by the opposing team because the fact of the matter is the ERA does not stipulate that each parent must get half of the children.

How has the ERA or Feminism benefited the OVERALL society??
@AnikaandAj
@AnikaandAj Год назад
@@Dbweaver2011 The ERA has never been able to benefit society as it was never ratified, as is the whole point of this series. However, as for feminism I can cite a specific societal benefit in that feminists expanded international human rights laws by pushing domestic violence -- which, at the time was a barely recognized legal issue -- as fitting under the definition of torture.

And much of the youth is democratic and feminists and to paint them in the good light is just simple yet smart business. Yours is perhaps the most idiotic excuse for lies and slander that I’ve ever heard. ‘They have to appeal to the demo’, huh? So, you admit then, that they demo’ is ok with lies, right? And did it ever occur to you that the so-called ‘demo’ wouldn’t even exist as it is if the truth had been told to them long ago? boy toy You completely missed the point. The ERA was created to promote a socialist agenda. You see women have more rights without it as they got to choose whether or not they would go to war. In a socialist nation women do not have the choice, they go to war and the government raises their children. Haven’t you ever seen the news of Venezuela, how it turned to socialism, they lost their financial standing in the world and people were eating out of trash cans. So disappointed in this episode - the transcript of this debate exists and went nothing like this. In fact, it was Brenda who stumbled and made outlandish claims that women had to provide proof they were sterilized at department stores in order to get credit, and Fred came in to correct her. Fun fact - Brenda left her husband for a woman after this debate, which gave the STOP ERA members all sorts of ammo. I understand taking artistic liberties but there was no excuse to fabricate how this debate went when the transcript was readily available. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KBt5tCGV1sI.html
