Thanks so much for posting. 😊 I can see why this lasted only 1 series. It was made about 20 years too late. I think people had moved on from these type of programs. Good to see it though. Simple sweet times
I think she was more of an actress, than a comedian. She could really immerse herself into the character. I like this show for nostalgia reasons and I admire their subtle acting qualities, but unfortunately, the show lacked a leading role, like a David Jason or Rowan Atkinson, someone they could bounce off.
@@Aerojet01 um it already had a lead, Caroline Ahearne, it just needed a better script but her and Craig wrote it themselves the same as they did the Royle family and that was hilarious, the trouble with this is it seems to be based on one single gag, that she's still treating her 37 year old son like he's 9. And thats not really enough to carry a half hour comedy.
I had a neighbour who had this kind of relationship with her son. She was overbearing and smothering and as a result he never emotionally matured. I always felt quite sorry for him.
Some comedies are head and shoulders above the rest and this was one of them, dark humour maybe but real. As for “ more rabbit than Sainsburys “ 23:20 ... hilarious 😂..She was a comedy genius afraid of nothing bold as brass.
I got the dvd years ago when network put it out. I watched once on the bbc in 1999 then never again till i bought it. I have fond memories of it but ended up watching the DVD only once too. How many people buy dvds through rose tinted glasses then barely watch them. Apart from them gypos who try to get everything for free and don't even own a dvd player.
I remember watching this when it was first shown with a Dutch couple. They just stared at it in disbelief and looked at me like I was insane for laughing at it.
Thank you,First time I've Seen this,But Glad I did,Reminds me so Much of the Royle Family made by Caroline Aherne,Shame really That this show didn't Last longer,Loved the Chas & Dave Music ( I Still Do !! Ha,Ha) The Mrs Merton character Was given a sitcom,Mrs Merton and Malcolm, Which depicted her Home Life with her "Mummy's Boy" son (played by Co-writer Craig Cash). This aspect of Malcolm's Character was Exaggerated to the Point that many Complained the series Ridiculed those with Learning difficulties,Mrs Merton and Malcolm lasted one Series, and was released On DVD in 2008. @LovecraftComedy
I watched this when it aired, and I didn't laugh once. I only laughed when my brother made fun of it. The execution is just poorly communicated, and having no laughter track makes it look worse.
The problem with this sitcom is that it is painfully tedious. The script and styling is like wading through glue. It never flows properly, and by the time you get 10 minutes into it, it feels like it has already been a half hour.
@@judedonnelly4100 Remember when people were allowed to have an opinion, or comment on someone else's opinion that they agreed with... and didn't get yelled at? I'm sort of wondering why the person I'm agreeing with also didn't get all-capsed like they're a naughty school child. Anyway, I probably couldn't do better, and I don't think you would like to see me try. I'm sure it would be tedious and unfunny too. That doesn't preclude me from having the opinion that I don't find this funny. Unless of course, because we don't agree, I'm not allowed that opinion.
