As I live in Australia I'd never heard of this show. I came across it on you-tube through being a big 'Royle Family' fan (my original home territory). I watched episode 1 of this yesterday and thought that it was somehow too sick to watch any more, but I couldn't get it out of my head all night so here I am again today. It is 'horrifically' funny. Part three tomorrow!
Absolutely genius… physical comedy done right… this is a little gem of a forgotten set of characters … how we need real comedy again in this lost time for Tv and Film current day 2024 🎥 5:44
Where else have I seen the actor who plays Mr. Merton? He seems familiar somehow. Was he perhaps in the movie "Coma"? Woody Allen's "Sleeper"? Weekend At Bernie's"? Oh, I know: "The Big Chill"! (No, wait. That was Kevin Costner...)
Didn't Mrs Merton think all this Molly coddling her son was bad for him? Didn't she want him to have a normal life. She's quite selfish and manipulative.
Some people are not as advanced and developed socially like others, and will always need extra help and support with their basic needs. You could make a case that Malcolm is on the spectrum and may have a form of autism. In the part, I think Mrs Merton was just a caring mother mindful of his mental age and doing her very best to look after him.
It because your mind is one that is far too easily pleased. You cannot appreciate the nuances and subtleties of anything with a little bit of intelligence.
