I fell down a rabbit hole on Spotify today via a playlist of songs from 2002, and have subsequently been on a Ms. Dynamite binge. I'd forgotten just what an amazing artist she was and how powerful the "A Little Deeper" album was when it came out. I love that she was fearless in talking about subjects like she does here with domestic violence but doing it with such maturity and insight beyond her years. That is a talent for sure. Big up Ms. Dynamite!
A little Deeper and Judgment Days will always be two of my favourite albums ever, and to think she was only 22/23 when she made these albums. Real lyrics.
It brings tears to my eyes every time, that line does. But it's a pity it's often not as simple as this, often the abusive partner pays the bills particularly if you have kids. Never an easy decision 😥
This was one of the best albums out at the time, she goes in deep on some issues, full of meaning and she killed it back when UK artists were struggling to step out of America's shadow. 💯World champ Dynamite 🔥
Needs to be played as part of responsible, personal social education in schools, also give the lyrics out, then could have a discussion after, about what it is about.
Love this song. So empowering. Don't settle for abusive "love". Every person deserves better than that. I love the video too, with all the characters mouthing the lyrics. This is anthemic and my personal favourite of Ms. Dynamite's songs.
This is so much better than any female rapper out today. She has positive messages... it's no wonder she's not in the charts, today people want hedonistic lifestyles. Sex at the click of a button, no thought.
She's had a few singles and made a few appearances since 2007, but her 'break' still seems to be going on =( The world needs honest lyricists like her more than ever right now!
@@Babe-ru6di I thought she is talking about the danger of normalising abuse in the minds of children, and that gives me chills. Does it mean something different?
@@ironpirate8 offcourse it means something entirely opposite. She is actually saying to teach her daughter that that kind of physical abuse is NOT a normal human behaviour. She is advising the victims of abuse to speak for themselves by refusing to spend the rest of their lives with an abusive man & in doing so, NOT to let their daughters assume that an abusive behaviour in a man is normal because it is NOT normal. You get it now?
@@ironpirate8 but she is not teaching kids that all men are abusive & it is a normal behaviour. She is saying that when her daughter will see her father abusing her mother, she will naturally believe that to be abuse a normal behaviour of men. So the victim of abuse must show her daughter that it is NOT a normal human behaviour by standing for herself. In your original comment, you said she is advocating teaching kids abuse is a normal behaviour which is not correct.
Just like her incredible bro Akala (if you dont know him go youtube his fitb NOW!!), , she is lyrically on another level, with a great message. Bless them for their, contribution and please please keep it coming!
Credit to the mum for raising well grounded conscious children too. I watched the documentary about her years ago and it was very uplifting and wonderful to see that despite hardships and painful losses she maintained her children in a time when things were not great. ❤️
