Wanted this so bad with the 2070s but couldn't stomach $2200 plus tax. Ended up with a Omen with 4k amoled with the 2070s. But the Raider was my dream. Got the Omen for $1580 tax included.

I do have some weird windows transparency thing going on eg when I am watching say a you tube video and I open up another window its very translucent. Didn't have that in the review unit so would be interested to see if you have that on your 240 hz panel.

Barely any difference bruh...in fact the 7i has a better display,keyboard,mic, latency. I guess you couldn't go wrong with either of these, but for someone who's into music production and needs a numpad, it's a clear choice.

Yes, the 7i is a great laptop. Has better speakers and screen for sure.

To be honest, the lack of thunderbolt 3, a laggy camera on battery, and MSI's support were deal-breakers for me already. As for performance, the Legion 7i had a slightly inferior CPU, stock paste, and from other reviews I've seen likely ran quieter too, so it is admirable that it achieved only roughly 10 fps drop in performance. It's also nice to have G-Sync, 500 nits, a numpad, slightly better speakers, and a smaller and lighter chassis so you can actually enjoy all those frames in every situation. The only substantial advantage I saw in my personal comparison was the SD card & mini DP slots, as well as the larger battery. I still chose the 7i, albeit with the i9-10980hk and 2080SMQ.

Looks promising but it lacks a lot of what the 7i offers for it to interest me, such and numpad, clean aesthetics, good keyboard.

@@erfgthygreas1709 it is, a buddy of mine has it and in gaming its very close. His CPU scores in 3D mark even beat Lisa's (Mobiletechreview) and she had an i9, although didnt beat mine because she didn't undervolt and my buddy did. SOTTR is set at default Highest settings. No RT, TF x8

Thanks ! Yes its a tough call between them. Perhaps the main advantage the GE66 has is the 1080p webcam. I was very tempted to buy the Cyber Power Tracer IV 500 - same as the Mech 15 G3 but much cheaper

The 2070super card is stronger then a 2080 super max q and in my opinion the thermals are amazing and design wise it’s better. Other then the low nit it’s great and I find myself using it more at home then my desktop replacement Alienware laptop lol

Just Steve imo it runs cooler. The legion i7 is just more popular so everyone’s buying it and will telling you that on the gaming laptop forums on reddit. You can’t go wrong with either one and if I didn’t have my ge66 the legion i7 would’ve been my next choice

In the direct gameplay footage that was at Ultra - single player game. In the multiplayer segment I just fired it up at the last setting I used. At the time I thought it was Ultra but it could well have been low, looking at the frame rate. It looked good nonetheless.

The problem with these speakers are that they fire downwards but the speaker grills are on the sides. So the sound just goes into the chassis , bounces around a bit then comes out the grills

They are loud enough, not quite as loud as the Legion 7 and definitely not the Mech 15 G3. If they had the audio grills underneath where the speakers are facing then I'm sure they would be better, unfortunately they fire straight into the bottom panel..

If the Legion 7 had an SD card reader I would have probably have kept mine. I don't game that much nowadays as I am testing all the time so a difference of 10fps isn't a big deal for me. It definitely has better speakers and better screen.

Best way is to go into the advanced BIOS , press left ALT and right control then whilst holding those down press F2 and and right shift at the same time. You will see alot of advanced features - apply an offset voltage, I suggest starting with -80mv as 90mv may be borderline - although it was OK on my machine

There is only one config on the Dragonshield : i9 10980hk / 2070 Super / 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD. I had mine repasted with LM on the CPU and IC Diamond on the GPU. Delvd price of $2715. Cheapest out there - GentechPC

In my experience, and I have tested lots of Hidevolution laptops with both LM and Gelid GC Extreme the LM usually does do a better job in reducing the temps. They do a good job, they put a foam battery down to stop leakage.They told me it lasts as long as regular paste. Ive had it on my aorus x3 v7 the past 3 years and it still is working. The Dragonshield model i bought will have LM on it too.

I initially bought that one and then decided to go for the limited edition. The one at Best Buy, i7 10750h/ 2070 super can be had for $1950 or so if you are a Best Buy rewards member. I ended up getting mine from Gentechpc because there was no tax and they charged only $0.01 for a repaste.

I forgot to put the weight in actually, if I recall it was about 5 lbs 4 oz. I stated the battery life at the very start. I got over 7 hrs in hybrid mode and 3.5 hrs in dGPU mode. Firtestrike GPU score of 24004 is close to a 2070 super desktop card.

The legion 7 is the one to get really unless you want the SD card reader like I do. I was told by a viewer that the Legion 7 can be UV using their advanced BIOS but i could not get that to work on the Legion 5i so that is another reason for me to get this one. The screen and speakers are much better on the Legion 7 plus you get Gsync.

Hi Sebastian ! I had my eye on the G532 for a while and Like it, it gets good reviews and its a decent price for an i9 and 2070 SP. It will get higher fps than a regular 2070 MP but that model of GE66 is $600 cheaper and you still get the 10875h. I actually had that one on order till I saw the Dragonshield one. The 2080 MQ performs the same as the 2080 MP. Its a toss up between the Asus and MSI in my opinion and probably the deciding factor for me personally is the ability to go into the advanced BIOS. I know how to do that on the MSI but not ASUS, and there are loads of options in the MSI BIOS, undervolting one of them.

My temperatures are measured using HWINFO 64. How do you measure yours? My buddies who has the i7 10750h/RTX 2070 Super is the same as mine. Sounds like yours needs a repaste.

Thanks mate. I used my desktop Rhode mic, which I have used on several videos actually. Perhaps not on too many reviews as it involves writing a whole script and then filming the B-Roll . The whole process takes twice as long and as you can see from the video stats I still have quite a few down votes and hardly got any subscribers from the video. Lenovo do have an NDA meeting later this month, don't know what that is about though.

@@Dhairya_Dj Thanks DJ ! I contemplated a time stamp for this but I thought it would be so hard to do as there were so many elements. Its not like I spent 1 minute just talking about the keyboard for example. This is how I shot this, and it was because my wife was making so much noise in the house . I did the testing, did the graphs. Opened it up to see what I was dealing with and filmed those elements. Wrote the script (takes 1 whole day) , then went through the script taking B roll footage of every part. I then recorded the audio using my desktop mic and then started adding the relevant B Roll into it. Doing it this way makes it more streamlined , looks and sounds better but takes so long to do. My other method, which is not as good but has no negative effect on views or subs, is to film and record audio at the same time. I do take some addition zoom shot footage of say some keys or venting etc. This method is twice as quick and is my preferred method. It is easier to add a time line to this as i spend longer on each segment. The mic is attached to my shirt and fed to the camera. I often do reference competing laptops on the video but a direct comparison I reserve for an individual smackdown video. You will be amazed how many people don't notice that I compare benchmarks with the Legion 7 for example. I'm my summaries I feel that I do give an over view of it but agree I should add an OWN or DISOWN stamp to it. I did a few videos back but keep forgetting. Thank you, as always , for your input !

@@OWNORDISOWN it's evident that a lot goes into making these videos & all your efforts reflect in the videos. About Timestamps, you can try to 5 or 6 main categories & add keyboard under it. Issue with Method 2 is that it's not so clear on phone Speakers. Being non English, it is difficult to interpret sometimes. No issues with Method 1, one used in this video, it's pretty easy for us even on phone Speakers. No negative impact on views is because most of us are here for your detailed content. Most of non tech-savvy would be done with Dave2D & Mathew Moniz. I did notice Legion 7 comparison & I agree there are some hot bois for which SmackDown does the justice. And yes, we definitely need those Own or Disown Stamps. There are many Ryzen laptops that deserve one because of poor display & thermals for the Price & some Intel laptops with poor thermals. Only thing is that you lose too much performance with a TB3 eGPU. The Alienware AMP is the only way to go.

@@falopio67 I like that too. All will have the HDMI port, usually the USB C port will offer a video out so ALT mode, and if it has a separate display port then that will give you 3 video connections.

The top models dictate thermal performance for the entire line, so I guess it's fine that he reviews them, it shows us the best and worst case scenarios.

I wanted to review an i9 10980k - I can use the data for other videos such as an i9 10980hk vs i7 10875h vs 4800h video. If I keep reviewing base models my pool of data will be quite limited.

In the end I ordered the raider with a i7 10750 and a full fat RTX 2070. I tried to find benchmarks for that setup but any and all reviewers review the highest spec models. I'm still not sure if I made the right choice. It's on backorder.

I hear no coil whine at all. I'm currently on battery and held the laptop to my ear. I'm just on auto fan. Perhaps yours is faulty?

I just tested my brother’s omen 17 and it has the same coil whine but it’s not audible as well unless you have the laptop on your ear (since its fan doesn’t go off totally like my ge66) I couldn’t notice it when i have the laptop on the table, when I noticed i was lying with the laptop on my chest 😂

Well, interestingly I am testing the GP65 from MSI and I could here an electrical whine - sounds like someone doing morse code , lol - not super loud but its there. And now I can here is on my GE66 ! Its not the fans, when I unplug it from the power source it goes away so I suspect mine is coming from the power delivery components. Strange!

@@OWNORDISOWN yup, it's mot audible unless you have the fans completely off and the laptop is less than 1 feet away from you. I've read that disabling C states In the bios will eliminate 90% of the sound but i haven't tried it since it's not bothering me and i can't hear it 95% of the times :)

If the Legion 7i had an SD card reader (and if I knew at the time how to UV) I would have kept it as it does have better speakers and a brighter screen with Gsync. But the GE66 ticked all the boxes for me and has slightly better battery life.

I'll mainly be using the laptop for music production, twitch streaming and gaming (mainly COD and Control) So it'll need to have strong CPU performance and good DPC latency. I'd get the 7i. You're probably worrying about 4-8 fps.

The 90w 2070 super MQ is about the same as the regular 115w 2070 , which in turn is about 9% slower than a 115w 2070 super. I expect a 100w 2070 Super MQ to close that gap to perhaps within 5%. I would say the GE66, not by a huge margin though.

I think the Lenovo 5i is the best choice. As you know, i decided to by the GE66 and this was because my video editing software can use Quicksync (faster than using even the 4800h on the RP17 (scores over 4500 in CB R20)) , plus , like on the 5i you can switch to dGPU mode and using NVENC render tines were faster than if I was in Hybrid mode. Plus the GTX 1660ti is faster for gaming.

The footage is captured via capture card at 60hz so don't use that as the tearing benchmark. I did seeit in Overwatch though.

These hinges seem pretty robust. The hinges on my 4 year old MSI GT73 titan are doing OK

I think if you undervolt the Legion 7i then perhaps that one. I did prefer the screen and the speakers but for me I needed an SD card reader . The Legion also had gsync which is great to have.

Milkshake For me the GE66 because I want an SD card reader. That aside, I’m pretty sure the GE66 would be faster, I heard the GS66 throttles down more. But it’s thinner and lighter if that’s important.

For my editing dGPU mode is much quicker for sure so I'll probably switch when needed because the reason why I bought it I wanted both the power and the great batter life.

I certainly saw it on Overwatch so a high refresh rate panel doesn't eliminate it. There is a lot to be said about Gysnc. How about the Legion 7 ? That has the mux switch at least so you can get better battery life too ...

I had the transaction pending two weeks ago, then my order vanished, then it reappeared two days later and the next day the laptop was on it's way and as I say, no money has been taken as of yet..... Would that technically make it 'freesync'? ;) lets hope so! Edit: I really like the look of the Legion 7, I see the 7i on their website but it makes no mention of Gsync though.
