I recently acquired the newer version of this tent and set it up in my backyard. The instructions don't make it clear whether the shorter peak pole should go above or below the ridge pole. I also didn't think to stake out the tent before putting in the poles so I found your video really helpful!

This is a good review, I'm here because I'm between this and the solo version. Edging towards this one though as it appears to have plenty of room for gear too, with as the solo does not

Great Review! If you do end up applying the seam sealant that the tent comes with, can you do a video on it?

Thanks for a great video. I love MSR gear, just am concerned about the splintering reports on the poles. Have you had any issues?

Great review. Do you think, in the event of putting the tent up in heavy rain, that you could set up the outer tent first - and afterwards put up the inner tent (in an attempt to keep the inner dry)?

Yes, you can do that. It's a bit fiddly, but once you do it a time, or two, you'll get the hang of it, and it's a great option!

G'day from Queensland Australia. I am wourdering if you can do a vedio putting the fly up first and is it an freestanding tent. As some places we go go you cannot peg into the ground. Gerard.

Hi , how are you holding the middle pole with. Mine doesn't not have anything to hold it down.

How come your rental came with footprint? Neither the Hubba NX1 or NX2 on MSR's (or any other retailer) website says it does not include footprint?

I would any day prefer a tent where inner tent follows the outer layer.. Try the other solution in ever-changing weather conditions and enjoy the outcome 😕😕

Is this the newest new version that is seam sealed from the factory? I know they had a recall on the 2019 updated version because they did not seal the seams on the fly and they were leaking bad. After the recall the seams are supposed to be factory sealed now. I was going to order on Amazon but am nervous to receive one of the left over recalled tents. $450 for a tent that leaks doesn't sound awesome, and having the customer have to seal the seams after purchasing a $450 tent isn't cool of MSR. Also read that if you receive a recalled tent MSR's solution is to send the customer and free tube of seam sealer.

Yes this is the new version that is seam sealed, and the seam feld is pretty nice too. I should have got into all that a little more. I am also doing a set up on the budget MSR Elixer where they use the tape. Yeah, a few manufacturers are just sending out seam sealer and I agree that is a little lazy. But who knows, I make a lot of gear and they must calculate it all out. I rented this tent by the way from Arrive. A pretty neat way to see if you really like a particular piece of gear. I need a 3 person usually and they don't have the 3 person MSR version unfortunately. Check out arriveoutdoors.com

Were they actually "leaking bad," or was it more a case of a bunch of customers who really don't know what they're talking about complaining? If I remember correctly, MSR deliberately chose not to seam seal those tents, and gave a fairly convincing reason why they weren't doing it on their website. MSR didn't overlook anything, and their customers and would-be customers didn't teach them anything they didn't know. MSR has been a maker of high end outdoor gear for like a half-century. I think I can remember my friend and I using one of their stoves on a hike in the Cascades in the early '80s. I trust MSR's judgment far more than I trust the judgment of some idiot vlogger who pitches his tent in the backyard and sprays it with a garden hose until it leaks.
