GSI makes a plastic coffee cup with a thin outside insulator and also serves as a 2 cup measurer. No more burning the lips for me and its my favorite cup out of all the cups I've tried. I also have the snow peak stove and MSR Titan cook pot. They are also my favorite out of a number of cook systems I have tried. Awesome video

Yes. That's a great cup indeed. GSI Soloist, I belive you're talking about? I used one for a bit and really liked it. I'm currently on a JetBoil kick right now. It's certainly not the lightest but for my tired brain at camp its the best option as of late. Happy adventuring!

@@TubaSolotheHiker the only downside to the titan and snow peak combo is it uses a fair amount of fuel. The upside is you can expand variety of meals. Some trips I've been staying in the back country for 10 days and plan to extend it even more this year. The jet boil certainly solves the issue of running low on fuel so quickly. While I still plan to use my Titan I may get a jet boil for the longer backpacking trips. Happy trails to you as well! New subscriber as well 😊

That's a good fitting kit you came up with. I have to look at the 550 as a second cup. I have the snow peak 900, it's the same dia as the msr pot, so it sound fit the same. Only neg for me is I don't care for the ridge on the bottom of the 550, I like the bottom smooth like the snow peak. Less of an issue if you are just using it for water, but if cooking food the ridge is a pain, cook/clean. I would just use the 550 as a cup, or to heat liquid probably so not an issue. Thanks for taking the time to go over your kit.
@TubaSolotheHiker
@TubaSolotheHiker 7 лет назад
Thank you for the kind words flashman. Agreed on the ridge on the bottom; certainly annoying. On the other part of your comment I used to have a SP900 (sold it to a buddy of mine). Check out this video from a while back which had my SP900 as the main pot. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-he4VcjzQRWQ.html. Much has changed from back then. Interestingly enough I plan on picking up another SP900. I miss that pot a whole heck of a lot. Take care!

Hey Steve; Yeah buddy...its a great set to say the least. The 550 bag will need a bit of time to stretch out but once it does this set is hard to beat. But that aint all; if you are into dry baking a 3" Fat Daddios pan with the lip cut off will also nest into this system for a complete cook kit and dry baking setup. Oh baby!

Nice kit and quality video! I have the SP900 with an aftermarket lid. I never cared for the fry pan lid that came with the pot. In rare occasions I'll bring it if I feel like having eggs or whatever. I also have the Litemax stove. As far as the net weight of fuel canisters go I refill/top off my 4oz canister from the more economical 16oz canister. This way I start off with a completely full (slightly over-filled 225g gross canister) before each outing. I use the G-Works adapter to transfer fuel from the big canister to the small. Works like a charm.

Nesting seems to be fine... My only knock on the MSR kettle is that it doesn't have measurements on it...
@TubaSolotheHiker
@TubaSolotheHiker 6 лет назад
Hello there. Yeah this set is a killer little setup. As far as the measurements go, its pseudo accepted that where the handle is pressure tacked to the actual wall of the cup are supposed to be the measurements markings of 1-cup, 2-cups & 3-cups. I took a picture to give you an idea of what I'm talking about. Its not perfect but certainly close enough for backpacking standards you know? Check it out on one of my newer kettles: photos.app.goo.gl/gfIudLzvoWjtiXKE3

I've found out that a 4" x 3" fat daddios pan (with the lip cut off) also nests into this system quite nicely. So not only can I cook and boil but I'll be able to dry bake all out of the same kit!

Hey Paul. That was a relatively new Kettle that I just got, plus I don't use this with any alcohol stoves nor place it in a fire so that may contribute to the overall shininess. Hey Steve, aka Nest Master Tuba, in regard to the Giga Power fuel canisters, have you tried refilling them... or any canister? I bought a tank to tank refill adapter from Amazon by G-Works called a GAS Saver Plus, and it has been flawless. Then you get a large "donor" canister of fuel and you're good to go. I can outline in more detail my procedure, but the bottom line is that I always start a trip with a full tank, and that is really comforting. I'm pretty systematic about fuel, and I know after each trip what my daily usage was. I write the weight of a tank, post refilling, underneath with a Sharpie. At this point, I have maybe three 100gm canister, three 220gm canisters, and a bunch of the larger ones that I've picked up from Big 5. Goo three-season Primus fuel that, with coupons, I'm getting for less than $6 per canister.
@TubaSolotheHiker

Hey Rashoop. Yep I've been doing that since last season. Best way to go indeed. I'm loving that G-works. Its saved me tons of money so far.

Is that the 550ml toaks sack that the MSR titan fits in, or a larger size sack?
@TubaSolotheHiker
@TubaSolotheHiker 6 лет назад
Andrew Conrad Hello Andrew. Yes that is the stuff sack from the Toaks 550ml cup. It did take a bit to stretch out but if you keep it on there it will eventually stretch out enough. I also upgraded the cordage in the baggie as it helps to have some stronger string in there to pull on the stuff sack. If you have any other questions, do not hesitate to ask. Take care.

@Vivaldi111
@Vivaldi111 7 лет назад
Not all titanium pots are equal. Titanium pots made in Japan usually contain premium, or purer grade titanium (lighter, cleaner, more durable) than those made in Thailand or China which are made with cheaper inferior titanium.
@TubaSolotheHiker

HEINRICXVI Hello. Yeah I know what you mean. Right now I'm using an Evernew set (video coming sooner or later here) and it's been working out great. Lighter, more beautiful looking, more functional etc. I will say though that I've kind of beaten the crap out of my MSR Titan Kettle and Toaks 550 over the last season and a portion of this one and neither pot has missed a step. I guess the stuff is good enough but we'll see how the Evernew set holds up to this seasons exploits. Take care.

Does the Toaks fit in the kettle with its lid on? Great vid by the way, thinking of a putting together a set just like this but rather than the gigapower stove think my BRS titanium will take its place. Keep up the good vids 👍
@TubaSolotheHiker
@TubaSolotheHiker 7 лет назад
Hello there. Thank you for the kind words and the view. The Toaks 550 does fit in there with the lid. If you were to use a stove that would not allow you to put the lid on top of the 550 (Like the GigaPower) you can always put the lid of the 550 below. Its a snug fit but with the stuff sack everything would stay put, no problem. Now if you are using something like the BRS stove (I'm assuming that's that little tiny stove) you should have no problems also. You might even have enough room to fit everything with the lid of the 550 on top (you might have to invert the canister back to normal position to allow enough room) That would be a pretty nice kit nested into the Titan Kettle.

@TubaSolotheHiker
@TubaSolotheHiker 7 лет назад
Fred Hello there Fred. Thank you for the kind words. Yes, the hot lips does fit the Toaks 55O without issue. It also fits the MSR Titan mug, but with the the Titan mug, you'll just have to make sure that you press down with your lips just a bit when taking a sip as liquid can seep under the hot lips. I've never had it be a problem when I've used the hot lips with my Titan mug, but when it came time to clean stuff, I noticed the underside of the hot lips had coffee residue, so it's something you want to be aware of overall. Take care friend.
