After the previous ride which was all steep tech and group based I quite fancied a solo get out there ride on the new bike.
I decided in a route ‪@HallMarc_Trails‬ had shown Paul and myself around a couple of years ago. Weather was ace setting off but soon turned all cloudy and miserable as I came into Buxton. heading higher it made matters worse. so it much of this ride it was a bit misty and murky.
The route itself is quite climb focused with fairly easy going downhill sections. Fast and fun stuff. on the return section it goes through the Goyt valley reservoirs and I couldn't resist straying from the path to have a run down some of the areas off piste trails.
A great ride but definitely more punishing without the rear bounce.
Of course I had a tumble too.

Hey nice to see someone on a ragley I thought I was only one 🤘🏻

Classic British hardcore Hardtails. I've known about Ragley for years and have been wanting a HT bike as a winter option for a while. A mate has a blue pig and he is more than happy with that. The fact that CRC reduced the prices to stupid levels made the decision even easier. Really impressed with it so far and it's done a range of stuff. Cheers for the comment. 👍

Really enjoying it. I know the joys of a HT and you're spot on how it makes you focus on lines more. I don't like being over biked anyway. Thing is this bike is so much better than my previous HT which were all old school geometry. Shows how important that aspect is.

my take on the feeling of the bike is im sat in the bike on a modern trail bike where my old mtb i was all over ontop of it, trying to keep planted but so much fun i still use my old mtb for all day riding as it climbs better lighter and fun the modern yer get away with murder tbh but again good fun just something about just letting the rear skip and slide over the terrain i aint got the balls to use a full suss as it can be used i admire them who can cheers sam

Can't beat the feeling of being on the edge of control....or beyond it most of the time in my case 🤣 90s MTB bikes were crazy twitchy, great fun

Great video mate, really enjoying the hardtail content from you, Big Al totally rocks, especially when on a bit of spice 😉

Ya you know what.....I'm loving making the HT content. The bike is blowing me away, really capable. I loved it up in the hope valley yesterday. Never missed a beat and rode everything with ease. In fact the more techy the better, it comes alive.

Nice one mate, always good to add some additional interest to an XC loop, both with new trails and new over-tightened SPD's 😂

Love this route! Great vid mate! It is a fair poke when you include some of the off piste in there as well + the extra battering you get on the hardtail! Good stuff! 👍🤙

I'd really forgotten how much more the body has to take in terms of a battering 🤣. Still good stuff, really like the bike.

Ace video Jonathan, i do love this loop, that tricky detour section is a lot harder than it looks, it's rude to not include the off piste en route haha, i see you found the extra bit after stumpy 👍 great riding on the hardtail 👍
@MTB_Derbyshire
@MTB_Derbyshire 7 месяцев назад
I made a couple of references to your influence in this ride 😜. Oh yes well worth a slight detour. I tell ya what that bike took those trails really well. Second fastest time on stumpy tells me it's pretty decent 👍

I also ride the Nukeproof Horizon clipless pedals. When I've used the standard shimano spd cleats they feel very tight, and I've unclipped a few times whilst airborn. I have an old pair of decathlon shoes and the cleats in those are slightly different and even on the loosest setting never unclip and feel so much better than the others. I keep looking for some of the official Horizon cleats but they seem to be out of stock everywhere. Not sure which cleats you're using but might be worth looking at the ones from Decathlon or Nukeproof (if you can find any!)
@MTB_Derbyshire
@MTB_Derbyshire 7 месяцев назад
Thanks, that's good info. I do think it's the fact that the Shimano ones on my old ME 7 shoes are so rounded. I've compared the cleats that come with the pedals to the Shimano and genuinely look identical. Nukeproof do say they're fully compatible. I'm due new shoes soon so will fit the Nukeproof ones and see how we go.
@Mark_Page_MTB
@Mark_Page_MTB 7 месяцев назад
@@MTB_Derbyshire I've tried 4 different sets of Shimano cleats on 4 different shoes and they all feel either too tight or keep unclipping. Let me know if you find some that work.
@MTB_Trekker
@MTB_Trekker 7 месяцев назад
There's some shimano ones that are easier to get out of than the normal ones. I'm gonna be trying them on mine at some point. Thi k they were about £12 from Salfords.
@MTB_Derbyshire
@MTB_Derbyshire 7 месяцев назад
I've mainly used Shimano and always been ace. I've had Ritchey ones which were also good. These seem good pedals but it's the release . They seem inconsistent somehow. We shall see. Clipless still a winner for me, especially on a HT

@@MTB_Derbyshire Never going back to flats 👌👌

That was rough. with my back that's a no-no on a hardtail, but those conditions are nice, no snow, no super low sub zero temps like -10 during day -15C during night no -18C during day and -23C in morning, evening and night which I had where I live, here in east Norway. usually it does not get that cold here, usually down to -15 c some days and mostly down to -10C. Why do you have a co driver? Or should I say invisible co rider? You probably made a route on trails you don't know, right?
@MTB_Derbyshire
@MTB_Derbyshire 7 месяцев назад
Hi. Yes Norway is much colder than here 😜 I recorded a route in the Komoot app based on one I've done before so it kept giving me instructions. I knew the way should have turned it to silent really. 😂
@mtbboy1993
@mtbboy1993 7 месяцев назад
ok, I did not know Kamoot did that. But if a co driver I mean rider it should use proper terms like tight flat left, two right minus, left 5, 3 right, flat left, square right 100, left 60 don't cut, hair pin, flat straight, over crest jump maybe.😝@@MTB_Derbyshire
